His gaze lingered on a nearby security camera before stepping just out of its frame. Satisfied that the area was empty and no one was within earshot, he adjusted the phone against his ear just as the other end of the line clicked and the call was answered.
"Hey, long time, mate."
A familiar voice he hadn't heard in a long while answered on the other end of the line, carrying a hint of surprise.
There was a brief pause, followed by a soft cough—almost as if clearing away the years of silence—before the voice began to speak more clearly.
"I knew you couldn't be dead, you're too stubborn to die. I bet they brought you back to life because of it."
Liam chuckled, his lips parting widely as he smiled continuously.
"You're still the same as always, brainless."
"Haha, very funny. Now what's it this time? You hardly call me unless it's something that involves problems. Why's that, Liam?"
Liam smiled at his voice. "It's really been long since high school, you huh."
