Chapter 103

The Daemon Engines—living weapons forged from both flesh and steel—marched toward Godzilla and Mechagodzilla.

There were far too many types to count. Some looked like giant crabs, their four legs supporting hulking bodies bristling with claws and cannons. Others resembled three-headed hounds, each maw gaping wide and drooling molten lava.

These abominations were far deadlier than Space Marines in single combat, and with their artillery support, they were even worse.

Adding to the chaos, the automated turrets of the Blackstone Fortress slid from hidden platforms and locked onto the intruders.

Unmanned turrets—technology far more advanced than what the Imperium of Man would ever allow. Any true AI was forbidden. But here, deep within the warp-tainted Blackstone Fortress, such taboos meant nothing.

"Drive these two out! This is our sanctuary!" bellowed a Dark Mechanicus magos, his vox-snarled voice echoing.

Deported?

Godzilla stood still, letting wave after wave of artillery crash against his hide. Firepower that could cripple a War Dog Titan washed over him without effect. His scales held firm.

Naturally.

It would've been surprising if they had managed to pierce his defenses.

'How much longer for Katata?'

[If nothing interferes, the Fortress's main engines will be paralyzed in ten minutes.]

Godzilla glanced over at Mechagodzilla, who was also under heavy fire. Unlike him, Mechagodzilla had a void shield, which sparked envy in Godzilla.

'Tch… why does he get a shield and I don't?'

[It is common for mechanical entities to possess shield generators.]

'I want one too. Can he fly at least?'

[Not yet. It lacks atmospheric escape thrusters. The current propulsion only allows short leaps.]

'Good. Otherwise, my Cliff Sword wouldn't be enough to keep him grounded.'

A flying Godzilla would be heresy itself! Who in their right mind would call a flying Godzilla anything but a blasphemy fit only for radioactive breath?

As Godzilla grumbled, another salvo exploded across his snout, dragging his attention back to the Daemon Engines and turrets.

'I'm being generous here, you know.'

He hadn't planned to get serious. Letting his spawn and Mechagodzilla handle the work had been amusing enough. But if they pushed too far, he'd have to intervene.

Just as he readied a radioactive breath, shadows swept past him.

A flock of winged creatures—draconic, but clearly descended from him—soared overhead. They were small, barely five meters long, fluttering around him like birds before swooping down on the Daemon Engines.

Even the fortress's turrets shifted their fire toward the new arrivals. The battlefield plunged into chaos as lizardmen fought alongside them, disrupting the enemy lines.

Katata was moments away from breaching the Blackstone Fortress when the real problem appeared.

The ground split open. A monstrous flower-beast crawled forth, tentacles whipping as the great bud atop its stalk split open to roar.

Godzilla's eyes narrowed.

'…Biollante?!'

Where had this come from? Who would be foolish enough to tamper with his cells? Not even the Emperor himself would dare such an act.

Was this Tzeentch's doing again?

He had no time to ponder. The creature glanced briefly at the Fortress's core, then turned its full attention on him. Its vines lashed outward, wrapping around his claws.

'You've got to be kidding me!'

The battle began instantly. Godzilla braced, pulling back with brute force. Despite its greater size, Biollante was still a plant, not an animal. Godzilla's strength began to overwhelm it, dragging the beast toward him.

Watching from afar, Abaddon frowned.

"…So they're not allies after all?"

The truth was more complicated. Titan-class beings like these lived in uneasy balance, sometimes allies, sometimes rivals. And Biollante wasn't here to usurp Godzilla—only to feed on the vast energy within him.

'Fight me and you'll regret it.'

Godzilla gripped a vine and yanked with all his might. The fibrous tendril creaked and tore, spraying green ichor everywhere.

The corrosive blood hissed as it ate through steel and flesh alike. A Daemon Engine caught in the splash was reduced to a bare skeleton in seconds.

Even Godzilla hissed as droplets burned his hide.

'Its blood's corrosive?!'

The pain was mild—more like a burn than a wound.

'Hmph. Barely stings.'

Biollante shrieked and pressed the attack. Its massive bulk surged forward, tentacles shielding its body.

Godzilla's dorsal plates lit up. Blue light gathered in his throat.

'You want energy? Fine. Try eating this.'

A beam of radioactive fury erupted from his jaws, tearing through the plant-beast's defenses. The tentacle wall glowed red, burning away under the relentless blast.

'You can't hold it.'

The ray punched through, smashing into Biollante's body. The petals of its massive bud withered and fell, revealing a warped head within—Godzilla-like, but sharper, crocodilian.

The beast screamed, its tentacles thrashing wildly.

If Godzilla kept this up, the fight would be over in less than two minutes. Faster than any Ultraman could manage.

Desperate, Biollante's tendrils wrapped around his legs and yanked. Godzilla stumbled, the beam sweeping wildly across the battlefield. It raked the upper walls of the Blackstone Fortress, detonating chambers in a chain of explosions.

Then Biollante pulled hard, dragging him down.

Godzilla crashed to the ground, flat on his back.
