Yes," she answered. "Jasmine and Hanith. They're yours."

"You told me they weren't mine," he whispered.

"I lied," she admitted. "Because I was scared. I wanted to protect them. I thought if you knew, you'd take them away. And I also thought you wouldn't want them because you are married now."

"Five years," he murmured, his voice barely audible. "I had children... and never knew." He clenched his jaw, struggling to process everything. 

"They are your children," she said softly. "And now your daughter needs you."

"I need to return his shirt," Amelia mumbled to herself as she paraded in front of Mathew's office like a soldier on duty. The mahogany door stared at her tiredly—the door was already stressed from her dropping by and not knocking. She'd been coming to Mathew's office, but knocking on the door was the issue.


Today was like that too. How can I return it? she counted in her head. This was awkward. Why did she have to slip that day and have her boss there to watch her embarrassment?
