Chapter 527 - Poachers

Wolvar, though short in stature, were known as the most aggressive species on the continent of Northrend, a trait that often made them surprisingly formidable opponents. Despite their smaller size, Galen saw their potential as additional troops. Having already accepted the Kobolds into his ranks, he had no inherent dislike for these creatures that dared to hunt Devilsaurs.

Upon their submission, Galen immediately ordered the Frenzyheart tribe to form a five-thousand-strong Wolvar legion to serve the Crusade. As for the Crocolisks, he held a low opinion of their combat capabilities and the shamanistic powers of their leaders, assigning them to mining and planting duties.

However, the Oracles, observed the Wolvar's integration into the Crusade's fighting forces while they were relegated to manual labor. Fearing the eventual loss of their ancestral lands in the north, they decided to play their trump card: taming Proto-Drakes.

This development surprised Galen, though he recalled obtaining green Proto-Drakes from the Oracles in his past life, indicating their inherent ability, albeit with a variable success rate. Recalling his own experiences with hatching dragon eggs, he knew that failures were to be expected. Ultimately, Galen instructed Ymiron to contact the Oracles, exploring the possibility of combining the ancient technologies of both tribes to develop more efficient methods for hatching and taming Proto-Drakes. The frigid climate of Northrend favored the swiftness of Proto-Drakes in the air, surpassing the capabilities of the flying machines from the Heart of Origin and the trained Gryphons, despite their adaptations for cold weather flight. Cultivating a larger Proto-Drake contingent would be advantageous, even if Galen personally harbored no desire to ride a green one.

With the two races settled, the Crusade established its presence in Sholazar Basin. Soon after, an unexpected hunting team arrived: Nesingwary's Safari.

This hunting expedition was led by the renowned dwarven hunter Hemet Nesingwary, a legendary figure within Azeroth's hunter circles, well-known even to the Windrunner sisters. Hemet had fought alongside the Alliance during the great war against the Horde and had also participated in the Third War against the demons under the banner of the Council of Three Hammers. Following Archimonde's defeat, as the Alliance quelled the undead in Lordaeron and a new era dawned, the opening of civilian sea routes by Kul Tiras and Stromgarde fostered communication between the Eastern and Western continents. Adventurers ventured forth to explore the world's secrets, and Hemet embarked on his lifelong pursuit: hunting the most challenging and elusive prey. His exceptional hunting skills quickly earned him renown, leading to numerous requests for his expertise in dealing with dangerous beasts and monsters. This success spurred him to develop the Nesingwary 3000 model and expand his venture into the Nesingwary Safari.

Despite Nesingwary's fame, Galen, focused on his interactions with the Bronzebeard leaders, had never paid him much attention.

"You are Nesingwary?" Galen inquired, observing the white-haired, white-bearded, and somewhat balding dwarf before him. He knew that despite their shared Titan ancestry, dwarves possessed a significantly longer lifespan than humans, so Nesingwary's aged appearance wasn't necessarily indicative of imminent demise.

"Respected Marshal of the Alliance, I am Hemet Nesingwary. I have come to Sholazar Basin with the hope of hunting some precious and ferocious beasts!" Nesingwary explained, a hint of desperation in his voice. His initial plan to develop Northrend alongside the Alliance had faltered due to his lack of interest in the relatively ordinary mammoths and rhinoceroses of the Borean Tundra. Intrigued by the rumors of Sholazar Basin's unique ecosystem, his attempts to enter had been thwarted by its protective barrier. Only recently, the cataclysmic avalanche had inadvertently cleared their path, finally allowing his expedition to enter.

To his dismay, the basin was already claimed by someone he couldn't afford to offend. Nesingwary lamented his predicament. Secret hunting was too risky, given Galen Tollbane's renowned generosity within the Alliance, particularly among the Wildhammer dwarves. However, Nesingwary, with his two centuries of life experience, was astute enough to know that generosity didn't equate to weakness. Driven by his hunting aspirations, he had sought out Galen, hoping to leverage any potential connection through Brann Bronzebeard.

"Hehe, Hemet, you have served the Alliance, bled for the Alliance, and your record is indeed distinguished," Galen acknowledged. Hiddenblade's intelligence report had confirmed Nesingwary's impressive dragon-slaying achievements, a rarity among dwarves outside the Wildhammer Gryphon Knights. "However, your expedition has engaged in mass slaughters in the Borean Tundra, earning you a blacklist from the Night Elves. As allies of the Night Elves, you are also on our wanted list!"

As the saying went, a large forest attracts all kinds of birds. While Hemet was an exceptional hunter, his management skills were lacking. The rapid growth of his hunting team had led to a division between rational members focused on rare specimens and fanatical elements driven by profit, often resorting to poaching and even collaborating with North Sea pirates. This had resulted in significant ecological damage, drawing the ire of the Night Elves. A group of incensed druids, followers of Malfurion's disciple Lassorius, had formed the Cenarion Circle to combat these poachers. Lassorius's accusatory words, "Do you think we're fools! You are covered in the blood of animals!" still echoed in Galen's memory. Furthermore, Galen, a staunch advocate for sustainable development and a pioneer in afforestation, found the indiscriminate logging, mining, and hunting abhorrent. While Nesingwary himself might not be directly responsible for the worst offenses, as the leader of the hunting team, he bore a degree of accountability.
