Chapter 510 - Humility

Alexstrasza, Senegos, and Chromie entered the Nexus Core to witness two blue dragons locked in a fierce struggle on the slick ice. Sindragosa stood a short distance away, intently observing the battle.

Arcane power-wise, ten Ancagalon could not compare to the Blue Dragon King, who commanded the Focusing Iris, an artifact akin to a miniature Well of Eternity, granting him a constant influx of energy. Fortunately, Malygos's sanity was fractured. Ambushed by Ancagalon, he had abandoned his refined magical assaults, resorting to a primal clash of claws and fangs, reminiscent of their Proto-Dragon days. Shredded scales and splattered blood on the ice testified to the brutal intensity of their fight.

"Malygos! Wake up!" Alexstrasza's voice echoed through the chamber, a desperate plea to her former comrade.

"Alexstrasza, why do you all stand with the mortals!" the crazed blue dragon roared, tearing at Ancagalon. "Their rampant magic use is a catastrophe! The night elves demonstrated this ten thousand years ago when they unleashed the Burning Legion upon us!"

Exploiting Malygos's distraction, Ancagalon lunged, sinking his teeth into the Blue Dragon King's neck, only to be violently shaken off. Malygos retaliated, his voice laced with deranged conviction. "My greatest error was permitting the Highborne remnants to build the Nightwell and the Sunwell, seizing this world's magical essence! They stole my magical authority! Alexstrasza, this is the life you defend? They are contemptible thieves, pilfering the power of the Guardian Dragons… They are corrupted, and I will obliterate them, erase all creatures who wield magic!"

Alexstrasza was taken aback by the sheer vehemence of Malygos's words. "Malygos," she declared, her voice resonating with the authority of the Dragon Aspects' commander, "in my capacity as such, I hereby revoke your position as Guardian Dragon King! You will stand trial for your transgressions!" With that, the Red Dragon Queen transformed into her majestic dragon form and joined the fray.

"Malygos, allow this old frame of mine to aid you in correcting your mistakes!" Senegos, too, transformed and soared into the conflict.

"Uh…" Chromie hesitated, a moment of internal debate. To remain would seem conspicuous, yet to join meant another chaotic brawl, a prospect she found unappealing. Just then, Galen arrived in the Nexus, Aragorn at his side. Their appearance provided Chromie with a convenient reason to stay put, near Galen.

It wasn't long before Malygos, overwhelmed by the combined might of the three dragons, was subdued. Aragorn, wielding the Silver Hand warhammer, approached the Blue Dragon King, who lay pinned on the ice, and brought the hammer down forcefully upon his head!

Boom! Malygos's vision erupted in golden light, followed by a searing pain that pierced the depths of his mind, a relentless assault on his senses. Bang! Bang! Bang! With each successive blow, tears streamed from Malygos's eyes, yet paradoxically, his sanity surged back with each impact, his mind clearing with astonishing speed. The hazy fog that had clouded his thoughts began to lift. A truly… physical… method of awakening!

"Stop… stop it! I am awake!" Malygos's weakened voice finally broke through the din. Aragorn halted his forceful ministrations.

"How do you feel, my brother?" Alexstrasza inquired, her concern evident.

"My mind is remarkably clear, more so than it has been in millennia. I am deeply sorry for the immense trouble I have caused you all."

"No apology is necessary, Malygos. However, I have already declared your removal as Guardian Dragon King. Henceforth, you will fight for Azeroth as an ordinary dragon."

I have just regained consciousness to this news. Is this truly happening? Can I even object?

"Come, my brother," Senegos's voice drew Malygos's attention. He turned to see the ancient blue dragon. "Come and help me raise dragon whelps!"

"Senegos! You are still alive!" Malygos exclaimed, genuine surprise in his voice.

"Not only am I alive, but since the War of the Ancients, I have been diligently working to rebuild the Blue Dragonflight in the Broken Isles. Now, ten thousand years later, Azurewing Repose boasts ninety-eight adult dragons, five hundred drakes, and countless whelps!" A newfound light shone in Malygos's eyes, bright with hope. With these numbers, coupled with the remaining blue dragons in the Nexus, their resurgence was imminent.

"You infuriating old reptile! Why didn't you return to the Nexus sooner? No matter how idyllic the outside world, could it truly be more suitable for the hatching of blue dragon eggs than the Nexus?" Malygos chided, a hint of his old self resurfacing.

"Heh, your own state was dangerously erratic. I dared not risk these precious hatchlings. Had you turned on them one day, I fear I too would have succumbed to madness!" Senegos retorted.

"Alas…" Malygos sighed, breaking free from the other dragons' hold and transforming into his high elf form. The remaining dragons followed suit. "Thank you for your assistance, human, in restoring my sanity!"

"Hmph, I'm not convinced you're fully lucid yet," the Red Dragon Queen interjected, then erected a life barrier. Ancagalon and Sindragosa reinforced it with a magical barrier. Malygos glanced at the blue dragon who had just fought him to a standstill and the female dragon beside him, a flicker of recognition in his eyes.

"You have nurtured a remarkable junior, Senegos. In terms of strength, he is on the verge of surpassing me. Had I not been empowered by the Focusing Iris, today might have been my last!"

Senegos glanced at the Blue Dragon King with a hint of triumph. "He is a warrior of our Blue Dragonflight. He was born over ten thousand years ago and participated in the War of the Ancients as a mere whelp. Of course, had it not been for him, I would have perished under the Demon Soul's attack!"

Such a prodigious dragon among the blue dragons ten thousand years ago? He does seem… vaguely familiar! But before Malygos could fully grasp the memory, the next revelation stunned him.

"And this human here?"

"He is the reincarnation of Tyr!"

The reincarnation of Tyr… Tyr… Still alive! Malygos, his consciousness newly restored, felt his mind reeling from the unexpected news.

With Galen's arrival, the clandestine operation reached its climax, and the Blue Dragon Chaos that had worried Azeroth's mortal spellcasters ended in a surprisingly anticlimactic manner. Sensing the return of the magic net's energy, the mages who had sought refuge in Dalaran returned to their homes. However, the most promising among them received an invitation from the human Guardian Aegwynn before their departure, inviting them to join the newly reformed Council of Tirisfal! Some mages readily accepted, understanding the significance of Aegwynn's offer, while others, drawn by the vast arcane knowledge within Karazhan's libraries, also joined the council. The remaining mages requested time to consider the proposition.

The blue dragons underwent a significant relocation, with all members of the Azurewing Repose in Azsuna migrating to the Nexus, a far more suitable environment for the growth of blue dragon whelps than the ravaged lands of the Broken Isles. Malygos formally stepped down as the Blue Dragon King, and they resolved to elect the most fitting magic guardian, the new Blue Dragon King, in an ancient ceremony during the Twin Moons' Embrace. The two leading candidates were the ancient blue dragon Ancagalon from Azurewing Repose and the "rising star" from the Nexus, Kalecgos.
