Chapter 28 - Artemis Vs The Keeper

Being able to see everything around me more clearly is definitely a game changer for this fight. I'll be able to take advantage of this easier than before so it's time to win this fight.

She can feel her heart racing as he continues to slash away at her, but it just excited her more. Being able to fight against someone who actually makes it a challenge is invigorating.

Clang!!! His blade smashes against her staff as she uses it to block against his attack. "You really have some motivation in your movement now." She speaks with a bit of excitement in her voice.

I need to make sure she survives this battle so that I can get some information out of her at the end of it. Being able to do that will be a game changer for us.

All of the things she could tell us might give us a proper direction to pursue.

"No more comments? Fine, as a keeper I'll dispose of you." She speaks again while taking on more of a serious approach.

Stepping back she immediately casts a wall of fire to separate them from each other as she prepares another spell. Moments after the wall forms she begins to cast yet another spell, something purple begins to emit from her staff.

Flash!!! A light engulfs the room as a beam begins to fly out from her staff.

That's not something I was anticipating but I knew she was capable of using a variety of magic. A keeper she calls herself, whatever that's supposed to mean.

"Block now!" A girls soft voice calls out.

Boom!!!! He raises his sword to block the attack and a small explosion reflects off of the blade, pushing him back slightly as she starts to cast another.

"We'll die if you just keep taking those attacks, use the shadows all around us to get closer." The girl suggests.

I was wondering what the point was of me seeing all of them in the room but now it makes sense. It's a way for me to get around if I need to or to use them as a way to attack.

A weird feeling consumes him as he dissipates into a shadow of a chair behind the keeper. He feels his body blending with the shadows as one before finally emerging from the shadow of the chair.

I don't know how to describe anything further with what I just did— it felt like my body was torn apart and put back together in the shadows of the chair. I didn't feel any pain from it though so that's something completely different from what I've felt.

"Where'd you go!?!" The Keeper shouts with concern in her voice.

She probably didn't expect me to have a few tricks of my own so maybe it's time she experiences what I can do.

He steps out from the shadow and brings his blade upwards from behind her— Slashing across her back and through her skin with ease. Splurt!!! Blood immediately comes out from her back as she stumbles forward trying to understand what happened.

She turns around to face him but he's already gone from where he last attacked her. "You coward! I didn't think you'd stoop to such a level!" She shouts with anger in her voice.

Nobody said that fighting would always be fair, in fact it's never fair. Someone will always have something over the person they are fighting, especially in a world like this.

Those guys I killed before would've beaten me if I didn't have the power I have so it's only fair. Welcome to the real world right?

Suddenly she finds herself bombarded with attacks from every direction in an instant as each slash cuts across her. Shedding blood with each cut until she finally drops her staff.

I don't know if I can keep her alive with the amount of attacks I did but maybe somehow it's possible. Being able to stop the bleeding is the most important part of this whole thing.

Clatter! Thud. Her staff falls to the floor and soon after she falls to her knees. "I- I didn't anticipate this...." The Keeper speaks with a weak tone in her voice.

"I wasn't trying to kill you either—shit there's a lot more blood than I expected." Artemis responds while wiping his blade off before sheathing it.

He runs over and tries to stop the bleeding from the wounds while realizing it's definitely too much damage. "Do you really want her to live?" The girls voice echoes.

"I need her for information so yes, I need her alive." Artemis answers while trying to keep calm.

His hand begins to emit a light yellow glow as it begins to close one of her wounds. "Then use it to heal her enough to get what you need." The girl says before her voice disappears.

It seems to be some sort of healing magic so this will definitely be enough to keep her alive at least, but why would she trust me so blindly? I guess I trust her with using her power so maybe it's just a mutual feeling.

An hour passes since the fight ended, the keepers wounds have finally healed and she is conscious surprisingly. The magic was enough to keep her alive and breathing while most wouldn't make it through the ordeal.

Her mask appears to be cracked from the impact of all the attacks, her eyes still fixated on Artemis. "Why did you keep me alive...?" She questions with a bit of confusion in her voice.

"You know more about the followers right? The ones who want to resurrect the goddess of death, you appear to be one too." Artemis responds in a calm manner.

This could be beneficial or maybe she'll tell me to get out of here without telling me a thing. If she's a devout follower than it might be pointless regardless of me keeping her alive or not.

"You bested me, no one has done that in a long time. I guess it's only fair to share something." She says softly.
