The round of selections continued. Ember carefully picked her next three from the remaining pool. She ended up with House Belmore—Type Three, Number Two, one unexpected House Shantaville card—Type Four Number One. And a not so good House Calisthe card—type six, Number one.
They were overlooked, but in combination? It was something.
But still not quite enough.
Soon, each player sat with eight cards fanned discreetly in hand. The meaty man—still clearly bitter—shuffled the remaining four surplus cards into a single pile and placed them in the middle.
"Anyone want to trade?" he asked, eyeing Ember.
"I'll bite," Ember said coolly. This exchange might just be her last chance. She had to trade off her initial Belmore card—type three, number four which totalled to a horrendous seven.
At least she didn't get a House Calisthe Type six, Number six. That would have been the true horror. Although it could still be among the piles of four remaining cards.
