Sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains as Rui stretched, feeling strength return to her limbs.
A full night of rest had worked wonders; the bone-deep exhaustion had finally lifted.
"Look who decided to join the living," Kee Kee remarked, bouncing on the edge of her bed.
"About time. I was getting bored watching you sleep."
Rui swung her legs over the side of the bed, testing her balance.
"The council meeting—"
"Postponed," Kee Kee interrupted with a smirk.
"Your mother has the Demon King wrapped around her little finger. One look from those green eyes and he rescheduled everything."
"Really?" Rui couldn't hide her surprise.
"The mighty Demon King, feared across all realms, turns to putty when Princess Tian raises an eyebrow." Kee Kee mimicked swooning.
"It's disgustingly adorable."
Rui laughed, the sound feeling foreign after so much tension. "And Zou?"
He is fully recovered and strutting around as if he wasn't half-dead four days ago. Kee Kee rolled his eyes.
