Chapter 5 - Self-Discovery

It was cloudy, the clouds were pitch black—streets were brightening due to the human-made lights.

"The world is beautiful." a voice spoke—Robert's. He was standing on top of the fallen Baxter auditorium building.

"The mutation must have started now." He said—his face looking up in the sky watching the dark clouds of dark energy surrounding the entire planet—robbing the habitants of the sunlight.

"Are you sure that you want to meet him?" the dark voice reawakened and asked Robert.

"Yes, it is important that I meet him. I want them to intervene." Robert replied, his voice starting to blend with the dark voice.

Robert looked at the street where people were running away from something—something after their life.

"The pace is different." Robert said and jumped from the building.

He landed on the road and people stopped to look back, they all saw a man—his body made up of dark flesh, the dark energy covering him solidified to give human appearance.

"Who is he?" someone from the crowd asked.

Robert heard it but didn't answer because he was curious what making humans fear for their life was.

From the road's darkness an entity appeared—it was human but not anymore, his body was mutating.

"Join me!" Robert commanded the entity.

The entity looked at him and laughed and replied, "I always followed everyone but not anymore.", and rushed toward Robert.

"Foolish Human!" Robert commented and when it came near Robert—he penetrated his right arm inside him.

"Ugh!?" the entity could neither say nor express anything, he just felt something crushing his body—an arm.

"Creation can never touch their creator." Robert said and took his arm out from his belly.

The person fell backward—blood escaped from his wound, spreading across the road.

The rest of the people watching looked scared, they couldn't understand if killing the other one was right or not.

Robert turned and looked at the human crowd—few screamed and some ran off fearing for their lives.

Robert's body covered with dark energy formed a long dark cloak, "Anyone daring to run will receive death punishment." Robert declared, his voice sounding confident.

Everyone paused wherever they were but one ignored the warning and continued running, "They always need an example." Robert said.

He extended his right arm forward—he felt a little tingling pain as his body was forming a weapon—from the dark energy.

In his arm formed a large two-handed sword, it was up to 213 cm long with 4 kg weight—a Zweihänder sword.

The man running away looked back and didn't see Robert and then he smiled thinking that he survived because he ran away.

Just as he turned his head forward he bumped into someone—his body hard and strong.

The man looked back initially and said, "What are you doing, run as far as you can or else you will die too."

He looked forward and saw him—the one he was escaping from; Robert.

"For the crime of disregarding the direct order of mine; you will receive death punishment from my newest weapon." Robert said—declaring his authority.

The man looked down and saw the long sword, "Please…please…just give me one more CHANCE!" the man screamed in vain as his screamed just disappeared in few seconds.

The human crowd who couldn't dare to move by hearing it from Robert stayed there, soon they heard him coming back and so they looked at that direction.

Robert was carrying his long sword in his right hand while grabbing a decapitated head of the person he murdered in left—blood was dropping from the severed head leaving the trace to his body.

Robert threw the head once he reached the crowd, "You are my slaves, slaves with whom I will rule the other world." Robert declared.

The crowd started nodding their head in fear and then someone fell on the ground—he screamed—his body was mutating.

Robert looked at him, smiling as he heard the scream getting louder, the man tried to grab his back while screaming in pain trying to catch something, soon a giant wing emerged through his left shoulder—blood violently erupted through the opening.

"Look a flying moron!" Robert said while looking at the suffering man.

The man sat on his knees and then emerged the second wing—he fell forward on his knees in pain.

"Enjoy few last days as human." Robert said and disappeared—right in front of their eyes.

Meanwhile in the second universe, Thomas roamed on the streets of the city which he remembered differently.

Beside him was Harry who was trying to figure out the basic difference between the people of two universes.

Thomas got frustrated by Harry's curious eyes staring at him; people were staring at them too.

"It must be rough by not getting any validation from women." Thomas said.

"I have a child." Harry replied—his eyes constantly observing Thomas' body.

Thomas froze, unable to move "You are saying scientists get girls?" he asked.

Harry replied, "They eventually do get."

Thomas never got appreciation from any woman except Sarah because she was a co-worker.

"So when will I meet your daughter?" Thomas asked.

Harry stopped—his eyes locked in for Thomas.

"Never, you are from different universe who knows if you are radioactive or not. I will not gamble my daughter's life like that." Harry furiously screamed.

"But you are with me." Thomas innocently asked him.

"Yes, because I am with you from the beginning, if you would be radioactive then so shall be me, you moron. Are you sure you are scientist?"

Thomas replied, "I am actually not a scientist, I do have great excellence in several field. It were my calculations which unknowingly threw my in another universe."

Harry calms himself down and replied, "I am giving you an advice, don't try to make your machine here—even if you can travel back don't. I once tried creating a small black-hole in my lab but it didn't work even when my calculations were right—it created a small wormhole instead."

Thomas looked at him—he was surprised, "You mean a wormhole which connects two places."

Harry looked at him—confused and frustrated, "You were able to create a wormhole between two universes when I was only able to create a short-cut to another country. Your discovery is bigger than me."

Thomas thought for a second—"Yes, I am smarter."

Harry sighed, calmed himself down and then said, "Listen kid, we both are unaware of the fact regarding the identity of you from this universe and if someone finds you it would be problematic."

"So what am I supposed to do?" Thomas asked.

"Just go and try to find out about your identity in this universe and I will open my other house for you to stay for the time."

Thomas nods and Harry decides to leave but at the very last moment Thomas stopped him, "But how am I supposed to reach you?"

"Just reach Rose Avenue." Harry replied.

Thomas stared sarcastically at Harry and it took him couple of seconds to realize what was wrong.

"Oh yes, you don't know that."

He puts his right hand into his trouser and takes out a mobile phone, "Here" he said and threw it at Thomas.

Thomas saw the phone approaching him but it was very slow, it was so slow that he could instead travel and grab the phone but he didn't.

Thomas grabbed the phone and looked a bit exhausted and confused, "Are you alright?" Harry asked.

"Yes, I am just tell me how to call you from this phone." Thomas said—him catching his breathe.

Harry explained Thomas to use the mobile phone in this universe—it was almost the same but the only difference was the icons they used.

The icons were swapped—the icon for contacts and call were swapped, it was just the name explaining what that application can be used for.

"It's confusing." Thomas said.

"Deal with it, I need time to set the house." Harry said and quickly left.

Thomas looked around only to see new faces, he didn't recognize anybody; despite having his own version in this universe he couldn't find anyone he knew in his universe.

It took him the entire afternoon and during 5 in the evening someone recognized him.

"Thomas! Where were you? The students are waiting for you for so long." Someone said.

Thomas was confused—he understood that this universe's Thomas must know him and the talk regarding the student but here he was completely unknown.

"Uhh what students?" Thomas asked.

The man looked confused and said, "The charity program, remember you volunteered to give lecture to the smart brains."

Thomas nodded—unaware of the fact of what he needed to teach and if he needed to teach will the laws in both universes be same?

"Ok, just take me to the place." Thomas said.

The man took him to a giant auditorium, "You got to be kidding me." Thomas slowly said when he read the auditorium name.

The banner said, "School for space and dimensions study"

"Did you say anything?" the man asked.

Thomas shook his head and said, "No nothing, just show me my class."

The man took him to the class and before opening the door Thomas said, "You can leave now, I will handle it on my own now."

The man agreed and left and Thomas nervously entered the big hall.

"Hello everyone" Thomas said.

He didn't expected anything but the students were curious and seeing the curious eyes it activated something inside him—he started explaining everything to the students without even considering the fact that he was from different universe and his laws could be different.

The session ended after one and an half hour and Thomas left the auditorium, he stretched his arms and said, "It was quite something but I don't know if they would have understand so many variables and especially from my universe."

He said it and then saw a woman staring her; Thomas tried to leave but then saw the woman following him.

"Now what have I done to her? It has been just few hours since I am in this universe." He thought.

Thomas looked back at the woman and she raised her arm and greeted him.

Thomas was confused but waved back to her which made the woman smile.

She crossed the road and approached him and she said, "Have you forgotten me for that?"

"Ughh!" Thomas was out of words—he didn't know what he was supposed to be angry about.

"So you have come here again trying to harass my friend." A female voice replied and quickly a female arm was around Thomas' shoulder.

The other woman looked down and said, "I was not harassing him, I was just asking him if he has forgotten me?"

The other woman laughs and replies, "After what you did, we all know that Sam is quite a simp but even he won't forget you for what you did Diko."

Diko—the woman who initially greeted Thomas, her face turned red and her eyes started watering up, "It was not intentional, it happened by mistake Gwen." She replied.

Thomas looked surprised and confused, "So now I have to find out the story regarding Diko and me and her mistake and understand what my relation to Gwen and Sam is?" he thought.

Diko turned around and left—her tears were visible when she turned around.

"I saved you from her." Gwen said.

"Gwen, I know why she was asking forgiveness but I don't remember all the parts, can you just remind me?" Thomas nervously asked so Gwen won't look at him suspiciously.

Gwen started laughing and said, "I know that me and Sam told you to move on and forget about Diko but you took it to the next level."

Thomas started to get some idea but then Gwen completely told him the story, "You and Diko just started dating and you thought that she would be your first kiss and then you saw her with her friend and then the usual."

Thomas was surprised, "I got a girl when I was not a scientist?" he thought.

"Gwen, I need to leave there is someone waiting for me, lets meet tomorrow?" Thomas asked.

"Why are you asking? We will meet in the auditorium, we all need to teach." Gwen replied.

Thomas smiles and lefts and calls Harry.

After one more hour Thomas was finally inside the other house set upped by Harry.

"So what did you found out?" Harry asked.

"Don't ask, I found so much but the most annoying thing is that I teach student here—I am just 22 how can I teach?" Thomas replied.

Harry laughs and informs him about the tradition that one need to find job by 18 or they are drafted in military and to avoid it people tend to join low profession as well like teaching.

"I didn't say that teaching is bad profession?" Thomas replied.

"Oh it is not in yours? It is in ours." Harry replied.

In the end of the chapter, the story goes back in the first universe this time on people.

"We can't kill him; he is very strong." Someone said.

The room was dark; it had no lights so if Robert attacks or his spy is in there no one could recognize anyone.

Some rocks and stones noise was heard and then someone said, "Then we must kept close eyes on him."

"He is collecting stuff again." Someone else said.

The previous voice asked, "What kind of things is he collecting?"

Someone replied, "The kind which the three scientists needed for the time-travel."

The scene shifts from the room to a neighboring area where someone mutated to gain powers to eat humans and become strong.

The mutated guy threw a teen girl near the garbage bin, "You will be my energy source." The guy said.

"Stay away from me, I am also mutated." She replied.

"Then I will get more powers." The guy said and started approaching her, just when he reached near her someone quickly came and pushed him.

"Brother" she said.

"Vanessa hurry, I am mutated with speed." He said and grabbed her sister's hand and quickly ran.

The chapter finally ends with Robert sitting and resting on the failed time-travelling machine designed by Thomas like a throne—it was his way to telling everyone that he is superior than those who have created this machine.

"I am coming for you, Thomas." He said and the screen went black.
