Chapter 5 - No Longer Human

As I said earlier, considering everything that's happened in the last few minutes, I should have expected even more strange, bizarre things that would go against my entire notion of ordinary reality.

Finding and killing goblins right after waking up is already bizarre and unbelievable. Seeing the orange tree you helped plant move and send out a shower of leaves, like a Bubasaur, that cut like razors through hellish wolves?!

I think it's fair to say that no one would blame me if I believed that either I'm having the biggest psychotic break of all time, or the world really has changed from the game it was in (which, considering the notifications just now, is already a bit of a certainty).

And yet, the most unbelievable thing that I refuse to acknowledge as reality is the fact that my younger sister, who's 5'7" tall (1,67 meters), has turned into a Barbie-sized fairy.

And why do I refuse to believe this?, since I drank all the blood of a goblin in a mere 3 seconds? (uuuuhghb almost came back up now).

Simply because I like to think of fairies in the modern version, of them as cute and adorable little creatures who help people, and sometimes play pranks.

And yes, I know that in the original stories, fairies in general were much more violent and bloodthirsty than that, but I prefer the current version (not necessarily Tinker Bell, actually I've always found her quite annoying).

And because I like the current version, I refuse to associate the word fairy with my sister, who could be an incarnation of evil and irritation. At most, I would agree with the aspects of playing annoying pranks and being good (relatively speaking) with nature and animals.

But her overall personality?

No, completely out of the question. Ha! Actually, she's also the same in that part about fairies loving candy, and if you let her down, they'll take it from you. In that respect, she's exactly the same (from when we were kids until now).

"I don't even have to try to imagine what you're thinking, catfish head."

She came close to my face and looked me straight in the eyes (I think I was a little cross-eyed to keep looking at her).

"Maybe this will help put things in order in that pea-sized head of yours."

The next moment, I saw the bedroom ceiling give way to the living room ceiling, followed shortly after by a strong impact on my back and head. The shock of pain helped me regain my composure, and it didn't take long for me to realize she'd literally thrown me from the bedroom onto the sofa (what was left of it now) in the living room.

By hard, I mean hard enough that what had once been our mother's favorite sofa shattered like a pile of twigs. How did that not do me more damage? I don't know.

And that was just a slap.

Soon, my sister came flying toward me (literally).

I was still a little groggy from the blow, but I could tell she was genuinely worried (even though she'd been the one to send me the buzzing sound), but also kind of happy (see why I don't want to associate her with fairies?).

"Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, I forgot I'm much stronger than before and you're still only at level 1."

She said as she approached me, looking at the bruises, which weren't really many, just painful, like when you trip and fall to the ground.

"Ow, ow, uff, okay, and how do you know I'm still at level 1?"

I said, standing up and cracking my body a little, feeling the extent of the damage.

"Oh? Please, Nando. It's like two nearly dead goblins would yield a lot of experience to level up more than once. You of all people should know that."

"Ha! And in case you're wondering, I'm already level 5, and Nawa and Lumi are level 6."

She said proudly, puffing out her chest.

"In game terms, that's not even a big difference, little sister, and you know it."

That said, I realized two things. One, she woke up a considerable amount of time ago. Two, I only just noticed my sister's dogs appearing. Lumi, the oldest, was a very old beagle, already 12 years old, and Nawa was a 2-year-old mutt we adopted, but they were very different.

Lumi was 12 years old, already graying, chubbier, and less energetic, with some wrinkles on his body. But now he looked just like he did when he was 6 or 7, wagging his tail and running around the yard.

Meanwhile, Nawa had stayed out of the house simply because she was big. And I mean really big. She was the size of a pony or a donkey, looking over at the house, and as soon as she saw me, she hid behind one of the palm trees on the street (which we also planted, but that's a story for later).

She's always been big, nothing compared to what she is now, and yet she's always been much more... shy.

As soon as I finished checking for any strains or bleeding, and (partially) accepted the fact that my sister had turned into a fairy and the dogs had... changed, I asked Mari.

"Aaahhhh, okay, what did I miss?"

"It took you a while to ask, huh?"

Sarcastic as always, I felt like punching her when I did that. But I held back, for various reasons, I doubt it would end well for me.

"But before that, don't you think it's better to allocate the points for leveling up?"

Now that she mentioned it I remembered the first ad congratulating me on leveling up. Following the logic (of mangas, webnovels, etc.), the way to allocate points and access your personal information is through...

Hmm...

It's very RPG-like, which makes things even more strange.

There's even a tab with a question mark at the very bottom.

[? - Status.

3 points in status corresponds to normal adults who don't go to the gym.

5 points corresponds to an adult who would go to the gym 5 days in a row for 1 year.]

But it seems that this [?] only referred to status; the rest I would have to figure out myself or after selecting something in the tabs (why do I already have 2 points in magic?)

And why am I no longer human and turned into a Dhampir?!...

Okay, okay, I prefer night to day, yes, I'm a bit annoying and maybe a bit arrogant, yes. But I still go out to perform exercises and interact with others, and I've never liked the taste of blood and always quite liked (but moderately, obviously) garlic, and I even have silver necklaces.

Why did I become a creature from the vampire family tree?

"So, how about it, are you still human or have you changed like us?"

"Us? Mom and dad too?"

"Yes, and not just them. Didn't you see Pomo, Lumi, Nawa, and even Scrubber?"

Yeah, it was kind of hard not to see Pomo-?! Wait, since when does the orange tree have a name, and why Pomo? And Scrubber? Is she talking about the oldest sucker fish we have? The one that's been in the lake since Dad made it almost three years ago? That pleco fish? Was that tentacle his?!!!

My mind raced, how do protagonists in novels and mangas accept this kind of thing so quickly?.

Ironically, I'm actually taking it in stride, and accepting these changes quite well (from my perspective). Especially the fact that I'm no longer human and that there are now monsters in the world.

As for the changes that have happened to my home and family (and probably to the animals and plants as well), I think it's best not to even try.

"Um... Okay, I think I get the gist."

"Again, it took a while considering we're talking about you. But it was still quicker than Mom and Dad."

"Oh, speaking of them, where are they? And by the way, why did the house end up like this?"

At this, she seemed to hesitate a bit before making a serious face (which still looked a little funny considering her size and overall appearance).

"That's a bit of a long story, let's go to the living room and I'll start explaining. Oh! And by the way."

She punched me in the stomach, making me almost vomit the nothingness in my stomach.

"That was for thinking something stupid about my appearance."

...Serious question, is one of her abilities mind reading?!
