The blade caught the light one last time as the Raider lunged forward towards Alara, the Bowie knife moving in his good hand. But the moment his eyes locked with Alara's, everything changed. For a brief heartbeat, his steps faltered. His pupils dilated and then dulled, as if looking into Alara's glowing blue eyes triggered something in his brain. A moment of confusion crossed his face, like he'd slipped into a trance without understanding why.
Then he came back to reality.
His head jerked violently, as be shook his head, and yelling. "What the hell were you trying to do to me just now?! Those eyes they are not human! Human eyes don't glow like that! I like them. I'll carve them out of your skull and wear them as decoration after I kill you!"
Alara didn't flinch at this statement. Internally, she clicked her tongue in disappointment. Her trance did not hold. She is not strong enough to control a human mind yet. But the fact her gaze affected him at all confirmed what Alara suspected her ability is real. She just needs more time to let it grow stronger. If she can't dominate human minds, she would start with something smaller. First Mutants, then Zombies. Maybe Raven is right the soon-to-evolve zombies would become her proving ground to show her own worth.
Enough experiments.
Alara lifted her bat as the emeralds glowed like green shark teeth as they met their target head-on.
CLANG.
Metal slammed against metal as bat met blade again, but this time she wasn't playing around anymore. Alara's strength surged forward like a tidal wave. Her bat overpowered his knife, forcing his arm back as he grunted in surprise.
Alara twisted, spinning her arm weight into a full three-hundred-and-sixty-degree spin. The bat swung wide. At the end of her swing she adjusted her aim, and the studded emeralds slammed directly into the Raider's left kneecap.
CRACK.
A grotesque crunch echoed as his leg collapsed under him. The knife slipped from his fingers and fell to the floor. He screamed, falling sideways, now crippled.
Blood smeared the cracked marble under his knee as he tried to push himself up. He looked up at her, wild-eyed, and seeing the fresh blood on her bat, he let out a bitter laugh.
"You've won... but so what? Adam Carter still has more men. Neither of you bitches will make it out of here alive. Your secrets and your bodies will belong to the Red Blood Raiders. When it's my turn, I will-"
He didn't finish the sentence.
Raven's shadow moved behind him.
Raven stepped forward, her pink AK-203 slung casually on her back, her boots silent walking over the bloody floor tiles. In her hand was a gun unlike anything he has ever seen before: a Desert Eagle. The traditional chrome finish was gone, replaced with soft, glowing rose quartz plating. Sapphires lined the sides, arranged in an elegant script that read: *Princess Pride*.
BANG.
The Desert Eagle fired a single shot.
The man's head fell sideways. As his body fell to the floor in a twitching heap.
Raven lowered the gun slowly, her voice cold and detached. "That's something you and your boss will never get the pleasure to see in this life, Sam Dalton."
She stepped over his body as she said. "I remember what you did to me in my last life with that knife of yours. Now I've killed you in both lifetimes… but this time, I don't carry your name carved into my body."
She paused, the gun barrel still smoking in her hand. "Though the scars on my heart still remain."
Alara let her bat fall to the ground, her breath catching in her throat as she crossed the floor in two long strides. Wrapping her arms around Raven, hugging her close, one hand resting on the back of her neck.
"It's okay, Raven," she whispered. "Now that I'm here, I'll help heal all the scars in your heart and mind. We'll paint this world red with the blood of your enemies."
Raven didn't resist. She let herself be hugged. Closing her eyes as she said only one word in comfort to Alara.
"Hmm."
