Jesse left the room after bowing slightly, but the knot in his chest only tightened further. When Bella was rough handled, a very uncomfortable feeling appeared in his chest… but he pushed it down.
This didn't feel right to him—it was obvious that someone was playing some type of game. But who could it be? When he got back to his quarters, he called out to Joel, his voice commanding.
"Joel."
His personal guard appeared from the shadows with a swift bow.
"Yes, Your Highness."
"Bring Lord Varrth to me. Now."
Joel hesitated. "He was transported from where we kept him when you were having an audience with the king just now, he's heavily guarded now, Your Highness. And the princess ordered that no one is allowed to approach his cell."
Jesse's brows twitched. "My sister… hmm."
A long pause. Then, low and determined: "Fine. I'll go to her myself."
