The atmosphere inside the old textile factory was grim, heavy with the stench of blood and the metallic scent of rusting machinery. Loops of netted cloth hung like cobwebs, dancing eerily under the flickering light. Corpses lay strewn across the factory floor—silent witnesses to the carnage that had just taken place. Amid the destruction, two figures stood out: an old man with a stone-cold expression and a teenage boy with silver hair and a gleaming sword.
Wesley, crouched behind a load-bearing pillar, could hardly breathe. His body trembled as he watched the boy step over the dead with unnerving calm.
"It's impossible… That power… Is he even human?"
Moments earlier, Wesley had been burning with rage. Fox, the assassin he deeply cared for, had been declared dead. He came here for answers… maybe even revenge. But now, fear gripped his heart tighter than anger ever did. The cold sweat clinging to his back betrayed his terror.
He had narrowly dodged death by instinct alone. But survival offered no comfort.
The boy—Sanjid—moved through the factory slowly, his silver cross-shaped sword dragging faintly on the floor. He approached a female assassin pinned to a concrete beam. Without emotion, he pulled his sword free, letting her lifeless body collapse to the floor with a dull thud.
Then, he stopped about ten meters from the old man, drove his sword into the ground tip-first, and rested his hands atop its hilt. His posture was upright, elegant—even regal.
This wasn't just arrogance. Sanjid was mimicking someone—Bella, the one he admired most. Her grace, her detachment in battle—it captivated him. He didn't just follow her; he worshiped her. And so, he copied her every move, every stance.
He noticed Wesley still trembling behind the pillar. Sanjid didn't plan to let him go. Out of all the assassins present, Wesley's aura was the most corrupted—second only to the old man.
But just as Sanjid prepared to strike, his instincts flared. A sudden wave of danger washed over him.
And it came not from Wesley—but the old man.
"You really are heartless," Sanjid said in a hoarse voice, still deep in puberty. "All your people are dead, and you don't even blink. Cold-blooded doesn't even begin to describe you."
His tone was taunting, like a duck trying to growl. But the old man didn't smirk or lash out. His face remained as still as a statue.
"Death is a part of fate," the old man replied calmly. "If today was their destined end, then they met it."
"And what about you? Have you seen your fate yet?"
The old man didn't rise to the bait. Instead, he said softly, "Boy, leave."
He studied Sanjid carefully, then added, "Because of your power, I saw someone… someone I once knew."
"For her sake… I'll let you walk away."
Sanjid raised an eyebrow. So, the old man knew Bella?
It made sense. Bella had once fought and defeated Mephisto himself, the king of Hell. Even the most powerful demons feared her. Maybe this old man feared offending her through him.
He watched his own people die—just to avoid conflict.
Sanjid almost laughed. "So you think I'm just some naive kid… and that after killing your people, I'll walk away and feel heroic?"
He shook his head slowly. "Too bad. My orders are clear: bring holy light to you."
With those chilling words, Sanjid exploded into motion.
The floor beneath him shattered as he lunged, sword raised high. Like a silver meteor, he streaked across the air and brought his blade down upon the old man.
For the first time, the old man moved.
With blinding speed, he raised a hand and caught the sword.
BOOM!
The sheer force sent shockwaves through the concrete. The ground split apart like glass, spiderweb cracks racing outward.
Cloth was torn from its hooks and flew wildly through the air like shrouds of death. Machinery groaned under the pressure. The weaving platform behind the old man crumbled.
Sanjid's eyes widened.
The old man's gaze had changed—his pupils were now pitch black, glowing faintly with hellish energy. He wasn't entirely human.
Sanjid didn't hesitate. A streak of blue energy flared beneath his eyes. He twisted in mid-air and slammed his knee toward the old man's skull.
BOOM!
The impact sounded like thunder. The old man was launched backward like a cannonball, tearing through multiple concrete walls before finally crashing to a stop amid a cloud of debris.
Sanjid didn't pause. He turned immediately and rushed Wesley.
Wesley tried to lift his pistol, his hands shaking. But it was no use. Sanjid reached him in a flash, grabbing him by the throat like a viper.
Wesley kicked and struggled, trying to pry Sanjid's hand off.
"NO—!"
Sanjid's blade plunged into Wesley's chest. Right through the heart.
Blood gushed from Wesley's mouth, a few drops splashing onto Sanjid's cold face.
"W-Why…?" Wesley managed to ask, tears in his eyes.
But Sanjid didn't answer. He simply let go, letting Wesley's lifeless body drop to the ground like a rag doll.
There was no emotion in his eyes.
No guilt.
This was his first time killing… and he felt nothing.
He told himself it was because they were tainted. Their souls smelled of blood and demons. They weren't innocent. They were evil.
And besides…
He was just following orders.
Suddenly—
A dark mist flooded the factory.
Every bulb and candle flickered out, plunging the entire building into an unnatural void.
Sanjid spun around. The darkness didn't hinder his sight, but something was coming. Something ancient. Something evil.
From the shattered wall emerged a grotesque figure.
It was the old man.
Or rather—what was left of him.
Black scales erupted from his body, shredding human skin. The transformation was hideous and fast. A demonic head formed, filled with rows of jagged teeth. Gigantic wings burst out from his back.
In mere moments, a three-meter-tall demon stood before Sanjid.
Its eyes glowed red like lava, locked directly onto the boy.
Drip…
Thick saliva fell from its mouth and melted the floor beneath it, releasing a loud sizzle that echoed in the silence.
Sanjid's heart pounded—not with fear, but anticipation.
The hunt wasn't over.
It had just begun.
