Chapter 23 - Make your choice

"Go on. Tear them apart. I bet you don't have the guts."

Amanda says, cold amusement in her voice as she manipulates the actions of dozens of survivors, their movements rabid and their minds utterly lost. She chuckles at how they shamble forward like zombies.

Father David makes the first move, unleashing a low intensity concussive wave that staggers the mind controlled group. His face falls at the sight of the recovering survivors and unleashes a heavier blast.

The second blast sends them flying backwards, some hitting the ground hard enough to bend limbs the wrong way. It doesn't matter, however, as they continue moving forward in spite of their injuries.

"Come on! Let's see some blood!!" shouts Denise as she clenches her fist in front of her. "AAAAHHH!!" Her small action elicits pained screams from Henrick's group as they curl up into fetal positions, desperately trying to stop the pain coursing through their body in any way they can.

Electricity builds under Henrick's skin, his eyes glowing as he steps forward in grim determination, prepared for what he has to do. David places a hand in front of him, terrified of the look on the soldier's face. "Wait, we can find another way!"

The priest's words don't register to Henrick as he shoves David to the side, narrowly preventing him from dying as a few glass shards suddenly pierce through the air. "The heck? Glass?" Henrick shouts as he claps his hand together, creating a small shockwave of electricity that stuns the shambling survivors and Eric's lackeys.

Suddenly, an unseen force locks onto Henrick's body and holds him in place, the ground fracturing at the telekinetic grip on his body. Inch by inch, the soldier is forced onto his knees, his body unable to muster much strength as he recovers from the improvements made by the dark purple liquid.

"Telekinesis, actually. Now watch as everyone dies." says Timothy, cruelty practically dripping from his smile as he watches David desperately trying to keep the survivors back. Concussive blasts continue to shoot out, all the while the rest of the group starts bleeding from their orifices at the intense pain.

"Father!! You have...to kill her!!!" Henrick shouts, his aching muscles protesting the force he's exerting on the mental hold. The priest grits his teeth in frustration at the lack of hesitation from the mind controlled survivors, his blows becoming less sure and more subdued.

Denise clenches another fist that forcibly rips out shrieks of pain from the rest of the group. Henrick and Father David feel the effects, but grit their teeth through the agony. The others aren't so lucky.

Selene starts vomiting blood, her insides churning violently at Denise's ability. The others follow with varying levels of blood loss, their skins turning pale as the pain brings them to the brink of shock.

Kevin gasps and collapses as his heart seizes, his young age and undeveloped organs working against him. "..ke...vin..." Alex says weakly, crawling with every ounce of strength left towards the now thrashing boy.

Leo whimpers as a survivor manages to get close enough to stomp heavily on the poor dog, the canine's blood splattering on the floor as none of the group can do anything to stop it. "YOU BASTARDS!" Henrick screams as his eyes glow in exertion.

Timothy grunts in surprise as the soldier forces him to use the entirety of his strength to keep him subdued. Henrick then roars as he forces himself up, his muscles bulging as he forcefully breaks the telekinetic grip. "ARGH!" Timothy screams, a stream of blood flowing from his nose as he squeezes his head in pain.

Without wasting the opportunity, Henrick grabs an office table and hurls it straight at Denise. The piece of furniture cracks across the chubby woman's face, her cheeks caving in as she's sent flying through the office space. She skips and rolls across the floor, slamming into survivors and office desks.

Leo recovers first. He growls and chomps onto the leg of the survivor that stomped on his head, his teeth tearing the skin and slicing into bone. Selene hurls a magical bolt that flies towards Amanda, but is stopped in its tracks by Timothy's telekinetic hold.

Selene smirks and detonates the bolt, forcing Timothy to grab his head in pain once more, still raw from Henrick's escape. Father David, seeing his chance, unleashes a concussive wave straight at the group and propels himself forward.

The priest slams head first into Amanda's nose, the crunch of bone and her agonised scream cut through the air as Father David slaps both hands on her ears. The resulting concussive blast stuns the mind controller, yet her control isn't cut off. David squeezes her head, hoping for her to stop.

"HAH! YOU'LL HAVE TO KILL ME FOR ME TO STOP!" Amanda screams over the ringing in her ears as she delivers blow after blow to David's midsection, the dark purple mist clearly having increased her own physical prowess as well.

Selene tries her best to kill as many of the survivors as she can, but they grab onto her and hold her in place with strength that surpasses human limits. Their fingers try to tear into her skin, bloodied and ripped to the bone as they start scratching at every possible opening.

Selene screams out in pain when one survivor tries to gouge her eyes out, the pain making her growl and unleash a magical blast that briefly pushes the mindless people back. "Fuck! David, kill her!!" she screams as she makes sure that her orbs are still there.

Henrick's group are pushed back into the elevator, none of the others willing to kill the innocent survivors, and Selene temporarily out of comission. "David!! Do it now!!" The soldier shouts as he fights through another telekinetic hold once again.

"I can't!!! I can't do it!! Don't make me do this!!" the priest's screams desperately as he increases the pressure on Amanda's head. His fingers start turning white from the pressure, desperate to stop her without resorting to killing.

Henrick grunts as he stands, taking slow steps towards Timothy as he covers his eyes from glass shards and objects crashing into him. "Her or us!! Make your choice, Father!" he shouts, now an arm's reach away from the telekinetic.

Father David takes in a shuddering breath as all sounds fade away. The only thing he can feel and hear is the pounding of his own heart as he comes to terms with what this world is forcing him to do.

With an explosive twist of his hands, a sharp CRACK echoes through the floor as Amanda's head is turned one hundred and eighty degrees, and the survivors crumple onto the ground. Selene doesn't hesitate and shoots a magical bolt towards Timothy, whose orifices are now bleeding from holding the soldier back.

He deflects the bolt and almost smirks, but is interrupted when Henrick slams an elbow into his throat. "GAAHK!" Timothy stumbles back and lets out a pained gasp, but is offered no mercy when the soldier kicks him on the knee.

The joint snaps inwards as bones and muscles jut out just underneath the skin. Henrick then stifles the telekinetic's scream with a kick to the balls, completely shattering the fragile organ. All the men present bring their knees inwards as Timothy collapses while clutching his privates, feeling the barest amount of pity for a fellow male.

Blood pools around his crotch area as his face turns an alarming shade of red, his mouth agape in a soundless scream. Henrick then snarls as he stomps repeatedly on Timothy's face, steadily crushing his skull until the soldier's foot is fully entrenched through it.

There is only silence as Henrick works to free his foot. Alex shakes in fear as he looks at the imposing thing that claims to be a man. "Was...was that necessary?" Alex asks, his hands trembling, having never seen such violence. Selene gulps as she realises that she could have been in Timothy's place.

"Necessary? No. But I couldn't stop that person from stomping on Leo. All because of this asshat." Henrick then snaps his head towards the back of the group and curses under his breath. Alex follows his eyes and sees Dominic giving Kevin chest compressions. "He's not breathing!!"

The soldier then runs to the boy, hands charged and ready to give his heart a jumpstart. He directs a low power electric wave into Kevin's chest and watches as his back arches after the shock. Henrick repeats it two more times, steadily adding more power, to no avail.

Henrick looks to Leo but frowns in concern when he sees the poor canine laying on his side, silently whimpering in pain. Father David kneels shakily next to the good boy, guilt consuming him. "I...I shouldn't have hesitated." says the priest, glancing at his hands.

Kevin lays there, motionless and rapidly losing heat. Alex clutches his head as tears start forming in his eyes. "Is he...is he?" The fire user is unable to even look at the young boy's direction, and equally unable to finish his question.

Henrick goes for a hailmary and slams both electrically charged hands down onto Kevin's chest one last time. A small shockwave blasts out and pushes the group back as Kevin gasps and gulps down air. "AHHH-OUCH!!" he screams, clutching his chest in pain.

"HAHAHA! You're alive!" shouts Alex as he kneels and gives the boy a hug. "What...happened?" Kevin asks as he looks around at the survivors on the floor. Henrick pats him on the head but notices that Selene's frown has deepened when checking on the collapsed people.

The soldier makes his way to her and frowns when she shakes her head. "They're all dead. Their brains practically melted during the mind control." Father David gasps at those words as Dominic subtly smiles to himself at all the dead bodies.

Henrick just stares at a child's corpse, their face perpetually stuck in a savage expression, and clenches his fist in rage. "Eric did this. I'm gonna-uurk!!" The soldier suddenly winces in pain as his body screams at him for some rest.

Father David supports him and brings him to a chair to sit, hands still trembling at his failure. "Get some rest. I'll...guard the elevator." he says, downtrodden and defeated. "No. I can still-argh!...Fine" Henrick reluctantly nods, knowing that his body is in no shape to continue fighting.

Dominic then perks up and searches through the cupboard at the office kitchen area. He sighs in relief when he sees a blue haired girl hiding in a cupboard under the sink. "Thank goodness you're safe, Veronica." says Dominic, bringing her into a hug as she trembles when she looks at the bodies everywhere.

Henrick sighs as he looks around the entire floor one more time, his jaw clenching at the scores of people that will never have the chance to see the light of day again.

"Damn it."
