The call with Ashley ended with a soft beep, but the silence that followed felt louder than anything we had said. For a moment, I just stared at my phone.
Ashley's last words echoed in my mind like a warning bell: "Girl… you are so screwed." My fingers tightened around the edges of the phone.
Trending. The word alone made my stomach twist. I hated that word. The last time I had trended, it had nearly destroyed me. My chest tightened as the memory flickered through my mind—the whispers, the headlines, the accusations. The way people who had never met me suddenly believed they knew everything about my life. Fear crawled slowly into my bones. What if it were happening again?
