Brandon's POV
Ashley stood still beside me, her eyes locked on mine, confused. Her hands were braced on the window rail, waiting for an answer.
But the voice answered for me.
"Didn't I tell you I did not want to come here?"
It wasn't a man's voice like I'd assumed.
I wasn't expecting Dad to come here today. He wasn't supposed to return until later. That was the whole point—I'd rushed here because I wanted to visit the cabin when no one could possibly show up. If anyone would come at all, I thought it'd be him.
But the voice wasn't his.
It was Elizabeth.
I blinked, disoriented. No. That can't be right.
I cautiously peeked over the window rail again, careful not to be seen. Her stiletto heels clicked sharply against the gravel as she emerged from the passenger side of a sleek black sedan. Arms folded tight across her chest, her mouth pressed into a deep scowl.
