What's this?
So dark, so suffocating, the darkness consumed my eyes. I blinked, struggling against it, my heart resisting the great blackness.
I tried to force my eyes open. Everything looked unfamiliar. I blinked repeatedly, trying to take in the environment. The rough scent of leaves and ashes filled my nose, and I rubbed it slightly, scanning every corner.
Old white curtains were scattered around the strange room. To one side stood large bottles with darkened contents, and on the right was a stack of books; old, wretched-looking, heavy books.
My heart began to race as I tried to sit up abruptly.
But I couldn't.
Perplexed, I tried again. A searing jolt of pain shot through me, causing me to groan.
My back, sides, and chest hurt badly, my entire body ached.
Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching, and panic gripped me. I wasn't sure who it was.
