Some players questioned whether these World War I relics such as trenches still had any use in 2077.

In any war, whether it was World War I or in 2024, the most resilient troop wasn't tanks, armored vehicles, or planes, but the infantry trenches.
The better the trenches are dug, the less death artillery and bombings cause. Sometimes after bombarding an enemy position all day and night, flattening the hill and killing all the rats in the holes, you might go up and find there's still someone resisting in your damn trench.
