Chapter 36 - Chapter 16, Visiting the Lord

People who've awakened their professional talent will choose to transition to a profession.

Among them, the four most common professions are warriors, wanderers, rangers, and minstrels. Humans can directly transition to these professions by activating their talent, and casters can do so too, as long as their talent is sufficient.

Some professions require divine assistance to transition, such as paladins. Paladins can only transition in the Churches of Justice, Life, Moon God, and Love and Beauty, as only these four churches have their own paladin systems. Among them, the largest power is the Justice Church, which has its exclusive Holy City — the City of Justice — at the southwestern border of the empire. Several paladin legions are stationed there, ready to repel the evil green wave from the Evil Land at any time.

Other professions, like druids, martial monks, and priests, also need the divine power of corresponding deities to transition.

Besides these, there are many other rare and peculiar professions that are even more complex.

When one's strength reaches a bottleneck, the original profession can be advanced. Boris's advancement sequence is warrior to berserker.

Laine's adoptive father Norman's advancement sequence is warrior, knight, White Wolf Knight, and among them, the White Wolf Knight requires the blessing of the White Wolf War God to successfully advance.

Laine's profession has always been a mystery. His basic profession as a warrior is unquestionable, but Teresa discovered that Laine knows how to use magic.

Dual professions face severe penalties. Practicing both martial and magic talents is just a dream. Humans are inherently unsuitable for using magic; in battle, they can only wield a sword or chant at one time.

Teresa did find a legendary profession called Demon Sword Master in the Jialan Council's archived books, which can enchant weapons, somewhat similar to Laine. Today's events made her dismiss this possibility; Demon Sword Masters only have a very rudimentary use of magic power, definitely unable to control magic power as effortlessly as Laine. Moreover, choosing to dual-train in magic causes Demon Sword Masters to lose enhanced professional talent in arm strength, so most Demon Sword Masters choose flexible weapons like rapiers and straight swords for dueling.

The warhammer in Laine's hand weighs at least dozens of pounds; being able to use such a heavy warhammer like a piece of firewood is impossible for a Demon Sword Master.

"I'm a knight," Laine seemed surprised, pointing exaggeratedly to the knight's badge on his chest and saying, "Didn't you see my knight's badge? I'm the 'Great Hammer' Laine of the White Wolf Knight Order in the Nord Kingdom."

"That's not what I asked. I want to know your advanced profession," Teresa said impatiently. If her body wasn't incapacitated, she might have wanted to hit him on the head with her Magic Staff.

"Then could you tell me the spells you know and your daily casting limit, dear Lady Trovik?" Laine still smiled. "Everyone has their secrets; why should I freely reveal mine to you?"

Teresa finally gave up on asking more. Everyone has their secrets, especially among casters.

Surte, the overseeing priest from the Kaltenhaven Justice Church, finally arrived. This priest was over 1.8 meters tall, strong and robust. The muscles bulging on his arms made his Priest's Robe fit like tight clothing, although originally it was loose-fitting.

"Knight novels have truly misled many. I must say, the majority of priests aren't the imagined delicate females; priests are mostly male, strong-bodied, and prefer weapons like heavy hammers and flails."

— Roland-Otto-Fiehenbach, the Prince-Elector of Altdorf, Empire "Victory Horn"

Laine smiled, recalling this famous saying while looking at Surte's robust physique.

The task handover speed was quick. After confirming their identities were correct, Laine and Teresa changed their short-term assignment of pursuing Belte to a long-term one, both unwilling to give up. After signing the new contract, they bid farewell to Surte.

Upon leaving the Justice Church, Laine nodded and said, "I plan to visit Lord Villarld 'The Woodcutter' of Kaltenhaven. Teresa, if you have things to attend to, feel free. I won't see you off."

After speaking, the man intended to leave on his own.

The weather brightened a bit today, and Laine's silhouette walked into the morning light as he departed. Teresa watched his silhouette, bit her lip, and called after him: "Laine!"

"Hmm? Do you still need something?" Laine was slightly surprised.

"Could I accompany you?" The female sorcerer leaned on her Magic Staff and displayed a gentle smile on her mature, beautiful face.

"Uh… well, that seems possible." Laine thought that Teresa was his teammate and also a female Member of Parliament from the Jialan Council. Naturally, the lords would welcome more powerful casters.

"Then I'll join you." Teresa immediately caught up; Laine shrugged, and the two walked side by side along the street.

Teresa hadn't encountered anyone familiar, so she intentionally stepped closer and whispered softly, "I'll only say this once: what I said last night wasn't right."

"Oh? Which part wasn't right?" To everyone's surprise, Laine played dumb, pretending not to understand her implication.

"Tsk, you already understand." Teresa noticed the subtle curve of his mouth and knew he understood, so she remained silent.
