Chapter 60 - CHAPTER 60:Campaign

Carrera is the dominant shipbuilding company in Water 7, formed by the merger of the city's seven leading shipyards. With extensive manpower and resources, the company handles contracts for the World Government and the Navy, and is deeply involved in municipal development across the city. It is a true corporate giant.

During the ongoing mayoral campaign, Carrera is pulling out all the stops to support its president, Iceburg, in his run for mayor. Although the Randoluff Theatre Company aren't citizens of Water 7 and can't vote, their talent for public performance makes them a valuable asset to Iceburg's campaign. In exchange for their help with promotion, the troupe receives free food and lodging.

"This is a great opportunity. Let's go," said Vivi, rarely speaking up, urging Randoluff to accept the offer. She had been keeping a low profile since taking out Lieutenant Colonel Cobana's accuser, but after losing quite a bit financially, she wasn't about to pass up a free meal.

Many members of the troupe shared her thoughts—free food and shelter in a city like Water 7, where prices aren't cheap? It was a no-brainer. Tired from their escape from Enies Lobby and recent street performances, they jumped at the chance.

Randoluff, who didn't care much for the political race, reasoned that accepting the hospitality didn't mean endorsing anyone. Besides, they needed to buy a ship from Carrera eventually, so maintaining good relations was wise. He agreed.

Water 7's unique waterways required special transportation—Yagara Bulls, seahorse-like creatures domesticated to carry goods and people. They're docile, sturdy, and reliable, a staple for residents.

Since the troupe had no bulls of their own, Carrera generously covered the rental of 33 Yagaras at 1,000 Berries per day. Vivi, with her ability to hear the voices of all things, gently communicated with her mount, soothing it when it seemed irritated by her companion, the duck Karoo. The seahorse-like Yagara repeatedly stuck out its tongue at the duck until Vivi calmed them both.

Upon arrival at the restaurant, Vivi eagerly dragged Randoluff inside—her appetite had grown along with her strength. Without hesitation, she sat down and began devouring dishes like a starving soldier. Maintaining her facade of being weak and pitiful, she mingled with people at one table, finished a bowl of shrimp risotto, moved to another, and killed a bowl of fried fish balls. Bowl after bowl, she ate five in total, finally feeling full.

While she casually snacked on some takoyaki, the Carrera representative arrived.

It's only fair—when someone provides the meal, the troupe is expected to do their part. Vivi remained in her own world, savoring a pair of croquettes while staying alert.

The representative was a fashionable woman: yellow blouse, black mini-skirt, heels, glasses, and long blonde hair. She was Iceburg's personal secretary—Kalifa—a face that immediately drew the attention of the troupe's male performers.

CP9? Vivi tensed, lowering her head slightly. From across the room, Belo Betty shared her suspicion. She instinctively stepped in to obscure Vivi from view, shielding her just in case.

But their caution proved unnecessary.

Kalifa introduced herself cheerfully, "Hello, everyone. Welcome to Water 7. I'm Mr. Iceburg's assistant, Kalifa."

Several actors couldn't help whispering to each other, captivated by her looks.

"She's stunning... Great legs too..."

Kalifa's eyes narrowed. "That's sexual harassment! Absolutely disgraceful!"

What followed was a blur of motion—spinning kicks, swift strikes, and sharp heel blows. Kalifa's attacks rained down on the leering actors, each blow punctuated with sharp "whap!" sounds.

Even Bucky the Clown, innocently pondering whether to try the barbecue or the tempura, got caught in the crossfire.

Looking at his swollen face and dazed expression, Vivi nearly burst into laughter. Whether lucky or unlucky, Bucky was always in the wrong place at the right time. His face now puffy and bruised, makeup would no longer be necessary.

Even Shanks might not recognize him at this point.

"You! You! You—!" Bucky stammered in rage.

Kalifa bowed slightly. "Apologies. I tend to lose control when emotional... Sometimes accidents happen. I'm sorry."

With the outburst behind them, Kalifa spoke with Randoluff about the campaign.

To the World Government and Navy, the troupe was insignificant, but for Iceburg's campaign—and groups like the Revolutionary Army—they were a hidden asset.

Kalifa provided a brief: the troupe didn't need to attack rivals, just highlight Iceburg's strengths through a stage play. A compelling performance could sway undecided citizens, helping Carrera lock in the win.

The troupe got to work. Within two nights, the writers crafted a new play based on Water 7's real-life issues. After two rehearsals, the performance premiered on the third day—featuring a fictionalized version of Iceburg's values and leadership.

The Randoluff Theatre Company may not have been suited for the harsh politics of places like Whole Cake Island or Onigashima, where power ruled over art, but here, in Water 7, their craft made an impact.

After the successful show, Iceburg himself—a composed, charismatic middle-aged man with deep ties to the city—came by to personally thank the performers for their support.
