The sky was nothing like the ground. Especially inside a plane—it was only so big.
After the preview letter went public, fans all over the world started worrying that Kaitō Kid might really get caught this time.
Some media outlets and platforms even launched polls, asking people to vote on whether he'd be arrested midair. The majority believed he would be.
This had never happened before.
"There's nowhere to run in the sky. No matter how skilled Kaitō Kid is, there's no room to show it."
"This is basically walking right into a trap. He's lost it!"
"Damn... as much as I believe in Kaitō Kid, this time it really doesn't look good!"
"Come on guys, when has Kaitō Kid ever taken action without being confident?"
"Yeah, but this is a plane! There's nowhere for him to do his thing!"
When Victor and Harrison escorted the artifacts onto the plane and boarded, there was already someone else on board.
But since Zhang Yang only posted the update after takeoff, Victor and Harrison hadn't even considered the possibility that he might be on the plane.
Now, though? It was a whole different story.
"What the hell is Kaitō Kid thinking? The plane's already in the air. Is he gonna fly up here now or what?"
Victor looked stunned. The direct provocation in the preview post made him fume.
"I don't believe this! What's he gonna do, grow wings and fly after us?"
Harrison, after seeing the post, was also shocked—but not for the same reason.
"Victor, I don't think he's acting crazy. He might already be on the plane."
"We'd better start checking."
Seeing how serious Harrison looked, a flicker of panic hit Victor.
With Kaitō Kid, the impossible always seemed possible.
While Victor stood there in a daze, a sharp alarm rang through the plane.
Then the voice of the co-pilot came through the speakers.
"Attention! Attention! The rear cargo door is malfunctioning—it's opening and won't close!"
"Everyone, hold on tight to any secured area inside the cabin!"
Victor and Harrison exchanged a look, then bolted toward the back.
They each grabbed a handrail and kept their eyes locked on the vault at the rear cargo hold.
The British Museum's artifacts were all secured inside it.
"Good thing we used steel cables to anchor the vault."
There were four cables on each side, connected to locking points at the sides of the cargo hold.
As the cargo door opened slowly, a powerful vacuum pulled at everything.
Victor still hadn't realized—the door wasn't malfunctioning.
It had been sabotaged.
Zhang Yang was already behind the vault, dressed in Kaitō Kid's signature white tux.
He jumped up and landed on top of the nearly two-meter-tall vault.
The moment he appeared, Victor's pupils dilated. His face was frozen in shock.
Just half a minute ago, he thought Kaitō Kid had lost his mind.
Now? Kaitō Kid was standing right in front of him.
"WTF?! Damn you, Kaitō Kid!"
"When the hell did he board the plane?!"
Zhang Yang stood on top of the vault, smiling with a wicked glint in his eyes.
The more shocked Victor looked, the more thrilled Zhang Yang felt.
He wasn't here to steal anything. This was about payback. A punishment for Victor's baseless slander.
The cargo door opened wider, and the suction became intense. Everyone in the cabin had to hold on for dear life to avoid being sucked out.
"Shit! Does Kaitō Kid have something on his feet? Why isn't he being affected at all?"
The contrast between Zhang Yang's calm and everyone else's panic was obvious. That powerful suction might as well not exist for him.
Zhang Yang stood firmly on the vault, casting a meaningful glance at Victor and Harrison.
The roaring wind inside the cabin drowned out everything. Zhang Yang didn't bother wasting breath.
"Wait, what is Kaitō Kid trying to do?"
Zhang Yang flipped both hands. In each one, he held a playing card.
As the cargo door fully opened, he flicked the cards out.
The cards sliced through the steel cables—each as thick as a finger—like butter. Everyone from the Enforcement Bureau was stunned.
Without the cables, even a multi-ton vault started sliding toward the rear door.
Victor's face went pale. Losing just one artifact had nearly cost him his job.
And inside that vault were over a hundred treasures from the British Museum. If anything happened to them, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Victor nearly pissed himself from panic. Instinctively, he lunged forward to stop the vault from sliding.
But Harrison reacted fast, yanking him back and shouting like mad.
"Are you out of your mind?! You'll get blown right out!"
With suction this strong, if Victor even loosened his grip, he'd be flung out of the plane like a snapped kite.
Zhang Yang stood atop the vault and shot Victor a smug, devilish grin before waving him goodbye.
The vault slid out the plane. Zhang Yang went right along with it.
Below was nothing but open wilderness, with a few scattered pastures.
Zhang Yang quickly tossed a black ball the size of a fist onto the vault. It latched on tight.
That vault held more than a hundred priceless artifacts from the British Museum. If they were destroyed, Zhang Yang would go down in history as a disgrace.
Kaitō Kid would become a global target, hated and cursed by all.
The black sphere suddenly deployed a massive parachute. The vault's plummet slowed immediately.
Zhang Yang then unfolded his Silver-Winged Cape and glided off in the opposite direction.
"I'll leave the rest to Victor."
He glanced back at the descending vault and flew away, fully satisfied.
This was just a light warning. If Victor still refused to learn, Zhang Yang had more ways to prove himself.
Once the vault and Zhang Yang were out of the plane, the cargo door began to close.
Victor and Harrison watched it shut, helpless.
Everything had happened right before their eyes—and they couldn't do a thing.
As soon as the door sealed, Victor rushed into the cockpit and ordered the pilot to turn back.
He also had them mark their current location.
Right now, Victor felt like dying.
A vault that size falling from high altitude… the artifacts inside were probably nothing but shards.
At least the area below wasn't residential. No mass casualties would occur.
Otherwise, a ton-heavy vault crashing down would've had the impact of a missile strike.
"Goddamn Kaitō Kid! I swear I'll make you pay!"
Victor's teeth clenched with fury.
But he also knew—once they got back, he might not even be allowed to keep leading the case.
Just then, as the plane began to turn, the co-pilot spotted something outside.
"Victor, look over there!"
