The Enforcement Bureau's setup was so laughable, even the onlookers didn't bother to take it seriously.
Zhang Yang sat quietly in his car, just waiting. Once the power cut hit these few streets, the real show would begin.
The only thing he needed to keep an eye on was the two Class-A fugitives in the crowd.
No telling what kind of trouble those two might stir up. Zhang Yang had to adjust his plan to account for them and prevent any unexpected twists.
Time ticked by second after second. Then, all at once, the streetlights across several blocks suddenly went dark.
The lights inside the Musée Guimet flickered out too. The whole area plunged into darkness.
Zhang Yang's lips curled into a grin.
"The party's officially starting."
Dozens of colorful lights burst to life from every direction, sweeping across the front of the museum in a wild, dancing display.
Gasps erupted from the crowd.
"Oh my god! What's going on? Why did the power go out? And where are these lights coming from?"
"There's all this lighting, but no music?"
"Oh! It must be Kaitō Kid!"
"Kaitō Kid is finally here! Where is he?"
"Damn, is Kaitō Kid throwing a party inside the museum?"
And if it was a party, there had to be music.
Nearby were four pickup trucks—brought in earlier by Zhang Yang himself.
Pickup trucks were common in France because of all the farmland, so they didn't draw attention.
He'd mounted huge speakers in the back of those trucks. By now, the speakers were already lifted into position.
The next second, bass-heavy music blasted out. The crowd erupted, cheering and shouting in delight.
Victor came running out with a few men. When he saw the crowd already going wild, his face twisted in rage.
"What the hell? What are you people doing?"
"Find those speakers! Shut off the damn music! And turn off those cursed lights!"
The museum's security was already full of holes. Now, with Zhang Yang's party and Victor's clumsy orders, it was even worse.
In the dark, a flash of white darted past. A figure nimbly jumped up to the second-floor windowsill and slipped into the museum through a window.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Bureau's actions only made the crowd angry.
"Shit! What are you guys doing?"
"These speakers aren't your property. Who gave you the right to shut them off?"
"Oh my god! Don't tell me your excuse for failure is going to be… the speakers?"
"Everyone, block the speakers! Don't let them near!"
"Damn it! Shouldn't you be catching Kaitō Kid instead of ruining the party?"
As agents aggressively approached the speakers, the crowd swarmed to stop them.
The Enforcement Bureau agents were completely powerless against the people blocking them.
At this point, the area in front of the Musée Guimet had turned into a full-on party—and the crowd was absolutely loving it.
Meanwhile, the two Class-A fugitives hidden in the crowd were growing uneasy.
"Shit. What the hell is Kaitō Kid trying to pull?"
The taller, more muscular man muttered under his breath.
"We haven't seen him yet. Let's not make a move just yet."
"Jeff, don't forget, we're just like Kaitō Kid. If we get exposed, we're definitely getting caught."
The tall one was Jeff. The shorter one was called Daweika.
These two had pulled off plenty of heists in their day and caused quite a stir around the world.
And they were skilled. No one had ever caught them.
Even after being labeled Class-A fugitives, their whereabouts remained completely unknown.
The invitation to the competition was only sent to those with real skills. As for their background or identity, the organizers didn't care at all.
The crowd stood their ground against the Enforcement Bureau agents. With no other choice, Victor had to call his people back.
At this moment, Zhang Yang had already entered the Musée Guimet. The Dragon Nation Gallery was on the first floor, and the monocle marked its location clearly.
Even though it was his first time at the museum, with the route and map on his monocle, Zhang Yang moved around with ease.
But it didn't take long for him to notice something strange.
"Didn't Victor say they brought over a hundred agents?"
"Why are there so few?"
Since Bruce had suggested focusing the security around the Dragon Nation Gallery, most of the agents from other sections had been reassigned there.
Zhang Yang moved without making a sound. He waited until the agents turned their backs, then slipped by behind them in a blink.
On his way to the Dragon Nation Gallery on the first floor, it was almost effortless.
Bruce and Harrison were already waiting inside the gallery. They had heard the noise from outside.
But they'd been fooled by distractions too many times before. So this time, no matter what happened outside, they didn't let it shake them.
The noise only confirmed one thing—Kaitō Kid had arrived.
"Harrison, if we guessed wrong, the whole operation tonight is screwed."
As soon as the music started outside, Bruce felt as if a mountain had settled on his shoulders.
He couldn't be sure they were right. He'd only taken the risk based on Zhang Yang's previous thefts, most of which had involved Dragon Nation artifacts.
And this time, he had guessed correctly. The artifact Zhang Yang was after—the Bronze Gilded Buddha Pagoda—was indeed located in the Dragon Nation Gallery.
"Bruce, there wasn't really any other option."
Harrison gave the Enforcement Bureau agents around them a complicated look. There were some things he couldn't say out loud in front of them.
"Let's hope we got it right—that Kaitō Kid really came here for a Dragon Nation artifact."
Zhang Yang heard every word of their conversation loud and clear.
After bypassing the patrolling agents on the second floor, he reached the first floor and was now just one hallway away from the Dragon Nation Gallery.
But there were three or four agents guarding the hallway. Getting past them unnoticed would be difficult.
"No wonder there were so few agents on the second floor. They moved most of them to cover the Dragon Nation Gallery."
"So Bruce and Harrison actually guessed right. They really know how to make things difficult."
Zhang Yang shook his head and sighed.
With the number of agents on the first floor and how they were positioned, if Zhang Yang showed up now, backup would rush to the gallery immediately.
He had the skills to take a risk—but it was a big one.
He'd already noticed on the second floor that all the agents were armed.
"Whether your guess is right or not… that's up to me!"
"I could change the answer right now."
Zhang Yang smirked. What he chose to steal was entirely his decision.
Since they were guarding the Dragon Nation Gallery so tightly, the other exhibits in the museum were left weakly defended.
After a quick assessment, Zhang Yang shifted his target to the Ancient Civilizations Gallery on the second floor.
It was located on the far south end of the second floor. Meanwhile, the Dragon Nation Gallery was in the north section of the first floor.
As long as Bruce and Harrison were pulled up to the second floor, Zhang Yang would have plenty of time to escape. Then he could return to the Dragon Nation Gallery and take the Bronze Gilded Buddha Pagoda.
