Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Fully Armed! Ready to Face Kaitō Kid!

The Kapa Building had dedicated all four elevators in the lobby exclusively to the Fubons Auction.

At the entrance to each elevator stood Fubons security personnel.

Only those with official Fubons Auction invitations could take the elevators directly to the top floor.

"Good evening, please show your invitation."

Zhang Yang, dressed in a black trench coat, calmly handed over his invitation.

If it hadn't been for forging this invitation, he would've arrived over an hour earlier.

Fubons invitations weren't just paper—they contained a magnetic strip, like a keycard.

Zhang Yang had already broken into Fubons' servers three times, all to implant his verification data into the system.

After checking the authenticity, the guard politely returned the card.

"Welcome to the Fubons Auction, Mr. Sami."

The guard pressed the elevator button and stepped aside, holding the door open for Zhang Yang.

"Thank you."

Zhang Yang nodded with a polite smile. Hard to fault service like this.

"You're welcome."

The elevator doors closed and slowly rose.

These elevators were exclusively for the auction, stopping only at the ground and top floors.

Which meant—these four elevators were the only way in or out of the auction.

"Looks like I'll need another way out of the Kapa Building."

A moment later, the elevator chimed, and Zhang Yang stepped out into the Fubons Auction hall.

Right away, he spotted Harrison standing near a pillar at the far right corner of the elevators.

At the same time, Harrison noticed him.

Their eyes met. Harrison gave a slight nod.

Out of courtesy, Zhang Yang smiled and nodded back.

As the auction neared, Harrison headed into Daniel's office.

"Mr. Daniel, I think we need to run a check on all staff on site."

Daniel looked puzzled.

"Why?"

"Harrison, have you spotted someone suspicious?"

Harrison shook his head. No suspicious activity yet.

But he'd been thinking—Fubons wasn't a place just anyone could enter.

Their invitations were highly secure, not something that could be easily forged.

So, Harrison reasoned, the most likely way for Kaitō Kid to sneak in would be disguised as staff.

"Mr. Daniel, Kaitō Kid is a master of disguise. But all these wealthy guests need valid invitations to attend."

"With only four elevators, all monitored by security, I believe the only way he could have entered is by disguising himself as one of your staff."

This was the result of nearly an hour of Harrison's careful consideration.

Honestly, his logic was solid.

But if Zhang Yang had been nearby, he would've burst out laughing.

Forging the Fubons invitation had cost him a lot of effort—way more than just adding a name to their guest list.

Daniel, aware of how secure the invitations were, felt confident.

After hearing Harrison out, Daniel nodded in agreement.

"You make a good point, Harrison."

"We brought in twenty extra security from a private firm this afternoon. They're probably the ones most worth checking."

Harrison's face darkened. He hadn't known about this.

Up to this point, this had become the biggest oversight of the operation.

"Alright, Mr. Daniel, we should get that checked immediately."

"Kaitō Kid is extremely cunning. If he's among them, we need to respond fast."

Daniel also realized how serious this was.

He grabbed his radio and called four security personnel into the office. These men were all former mercenaries, their sharp eyes carrying a dangerous edge.

Daniel gave them their orders. "Go check the identities of the twenty guards who came in this afternoon. Harrison suspects Kaitō Kid might be disguised as one of them."

Harrison didn't just suspect those twenty. He suspected every staff member at the auction.

He even suspected Daniel himself. His face was grim. "Mr. Daniel, honestly, I recommend re-checking everyone at the venue."

"What? Everyone?"

Daniel froze for a second, but when he saw Harrison's serious face, he realized this wasn't a joke.

He agreed.

"Alright, as per your request, we'll verify the identity of every staff member."

"Would you like to start by checking these four?"

It was a bit rude, but Harrison didn't hesitate. It also set an example.

"Kaitō Kid is a master of disguise. Don't just trust ID cards—make sure the face in front of you is real."

Harrison carefully checked each of their necks, making sure there were no signs of a mask.

Once done, he told them, "Don't miss a single person. Kaitō Kid is more cunning than you can imagine."

The four men replied in unison, "Yes, sir!"

At this point, there were still twenty minutes before the auction started.

Seats were being arranged in the hall, while the desserts and drinks were being cleared away.

Harrison left Daniel's office and returned to his post near the pillar in the hall.

The wealthy guests came from all over the world, each following the seating number printed on their invitations.

Zhang Yang moved through the crowd and sat at his assigned seat.

At eight o'clock, the auction officially began.

While the host was giving his opening remarks, Harrison heard Daniel's voice in his earpiece.

"Harrison, we finished checking. No sign of Kaitō Kid."

Harrison wasn't surprised.

"Copy that."

If Kaitō Kid were that easy to find, he wouldn't have made it this far. Harrison would've caught him long ago.

Harrison signaled his team to start the live stream. After each mission, he would rewatch the entire broadcast frame by frame, checking for any mistakes in his decisions or anything he'd missed in the moment.

Right now, two to three hundred thousand viewers were online, discussing whether Kaitō Kid would really appear at the Fubons Auction.

[I heard reliable sources say Harrison and Kameda both brought their teams into the Kapa Building this afternoon!]

[Every time Kaitō Kid sends a notice, he shows up exactly on time!]

[No doubt about it. Kaitō Kid will appear and steal something big tonight!]

[Don't you guys know? Fubons Auction invitations aren't just regular paper—they're custom-made! Unless Kaitō Kid can magically add himself to their invite list, there's no way he's in there!]

As it turns out, netizens are often right.

Zhang Yang didn't just add himself to the invite list. He even crafted the perfect invitation.
