Chapter 76 – Jackpot Rewards! Four Lottery Spins, Obito Crashes In!
[Ding! Changed the fate of Hiruzen Sarutobi. Awarded one lottery draw!]
[Ding! Changed the fate of Shimura Danzo. Awarded one lottery draw!]
Wait—what?!
Just two?
Renji's eyes flickered with confusion. Logically speaking, hadn't he also killed Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado?
And what about Tsunade and Orochimaru—he had changed their destinies too. Not to mention Uchiha Fugaku, Sasuke, and other members of the Uchiha clan. Their destinies had all changed.
Why weren't those counted as rewards?
[Ding! Changed the fate of the Uchiha clan. Awarded two lottery draws!]
Four draws in total. The Uchiha's transformation was counted as two draws, but not every individual was counted.
Renji also realized something—those who weren't especially significant didn't grant lottery rewards. Even those whose fates were changed indirectly didn't contribute.
It seemed that his previous dream of setting off a domino effect and racking up dozens of spins was completely dashed.
Then again, that made sense. If it worked like that, he could casually act and change someone's fate just by sneezing.
Still, four lottery draws wasn't bad.
For now, Renji put the reward aside and looked toward the other ninja clans. With Hiruzen and his lot dead, Konoha was now leaderless.
His eyes fell on Hiashi Hyuga. It was time for him to step forward. If Renji killed Hiruzen and then immediately declared himself Hokage, it would seem too abrupt. Even if no one dared oppose him, it would set a bad precedent.
He also needed Hiashi to make a public declaration. After all, the benefits that once belonged to the Sarutobi and their allies were going to be redistributed—and the Hyuga would likely receive the lion's share. How could they take that without doing anything?
Receiving Renji's signal, Hiashi Hyuga stepped forward slowly and cleared his throat.
"Today's matter is clear—it was a struggle between the Third Hokage and the Uchiha. Now that the victor has been decided, we should bury Hiruzen Sarutobi with the honors due to a Hokage. As for the errors and faults during his lifetime, let others judge. Tomorrow, we should elect a new Hokage."
At first, he had considered covering up Hiruzen's crimes.
After all, having such a stain on a Hokage's record was disgraceful—for him and the village.
But Hiashi couldn't accept that anymore. Especially after Hizashi's death. For years, he had wanted to clear his brother's name. It was for himself—and for the entire Hyuga clan.
So Hiashi had made his decision.
Seeing him speak out, many agreed, though a portion of the crowd had thoughts of their own.
"Shikaku, what should we say?"
"Let's choose a new Hokage tomorrow. Looks like Konoha's heading for a major upheaval."
Shikaku Nara spoke softly, while Choza Akimichi beside him seemed puzzled.
Change was inevitable—but judging from Shikaku's tone, this was more than just a leadership shift.
"They've struck a deal."
"No way!"
Inoichi Yamanaka looked at Shikaku in shock. That statement stunned him.
The Uchiha and Hyuga had… cooperated?
"Didn't you notice something strange about the Hyuga today? Most of our clansmen were kept outside. And it was the Hyuga doing it. At first I thought they were planning to act first, but now it's clear—they were cooperating. Judging by their coordinated behavior, I'd wager Renji will become the Fifth Hokage. It's Konoha's first—and totally unexpected—Uchiha Hokage!"
That was what shocked Shikaku the most. In his view, the Uchiha becoming Hokage had always been impossible.
The Uchiha had been marginalized for years. Their reputation in the village was terrible. They weren't welcomed by most ninja, and rarely made it into decision-making positions.
But now, Renji's uprising had succeeded—not only removing all obstacles, but even opening the possibility of an Uchiha becoming Hokage. To Shikaku, the Hokage title already belonged to Renji; tomorrow's vote would just be for show.
Historically, Hokage had always come from the Senju line. No one else had ever held the position. If you weren't from the Senju, you couldn't become Hokage. It wasn't just the Uchiha who resented that. The Hyuga probably had grievances too, along with other clans with their own interests.
"Isn't the Hokage elected by everyone…?"
Choza Akimichi was about to object, but then paused.
Because he remembered—Hiruzen Sarutobi wasn't elected either. He was appointed by the Second Hokage.
And now, the same pattern was repeating.
"In any case, once tomorrow comes, the village will likely enter a new order. We'll need to build good ties with the Uchiha. It's unlikely things will get worse, right?"
Shikaku thought for a moment. Though the Hokage was changing, it might actually make the village stronger.
Uchiha Renji's strength far surpassed that of Hiruzen, Danzo, and the rest.
So in terms of top-end combat power, he had won.
And the Uchiha clan was stronger than the Sarutobi and their allies combined.
It wasn't just about the Uchiha either—many clans would likely begin to reorganize.
Resentment toward Hiruzen existed in many families. That discontent had wasted village resources and left much of its true strength unused.
This outcome… was Hiruzen's own doing.
He had framed Sakumo Hatake to protect his authority, drove out the Legendary Sannin, and now there was no one left to defend him.
And maybe it was time for the Hokage seat to move beyond the Senju line.
"Let's meet tonight to discuss it," Inoichi Yamanaka said after thinking for a moment and glancing at Shikaku.
There would be no rest tonight. Every major clan would be preparing for tomorrow.
After what happened tonight—who could sleep?
"Everyone, let's end things here for today. We'll reconvene tomorrow to discuss the rest."
Renji scanned the crowd. Tonight clearly wasn't the right time to choose the Hokage. He still had many things to discuss within the clan.
No one insisted on staying. Everyone involved was already dead—what more was there to say?
"Naruto, why don't you stay with the clan tonight?"
Renji glanced at the dazed Naruto, who clearly hadn't recovered from everything that had happened.
Maybe it was because he'd finally learned the truth.
Lies don't hurt people—the truth is the blade that cuts deep.
"Clan leader Renji… was my father really a hero? Could you tell me about him?"
Naruto took a deep breath and looked at Renji with serious eyes. Even though he'd been deceived, used, and bound by false bonds, he still carried a spark of optimism.
"Of course. But you're in the mood to hear that now?"
Renji was a little surprised. Most people would be too broken by now.
"Even if I was tricked by Grandpa Third, and even though my life could've been better all these years, at least now I know the truth. I can finally tell everyone—I'm not the Nine-Tails. My father was the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze!!"
As he spoke, Naruto gave a thumbs-up and a bright smile crossed his face.
Even Sasuke beside him was stunned by that unshakable optimism.
"Is this Asura's chakra at work?"
There was no such thing as Shisui's Kotoamatsukami at this time.
Had his personality changed along with it, or was Naruto just always like this?
Renji suddenly felt that Asura's chakra was truly terrifying. After going through everything he did, even if he didn't turn dark, shouldn't he have at least become a little unhinged like Gaara at first?
Yet he remained so optimistic. No wonder he was one of the few shounen protagonists with barely a stain on him. His way of the ninja was to follow through on his words.
"Well then, tonight you'll sleep with Sasuke. You can learn more about your father from him!"
"Huh?"
Sasuke froze, looking at Renji with a strange expression. Why was Naruto coming with him?
And why did they have to sleep together?
Wait, what?!
Wasn't anyone going to speak up for him?
He didn't agree to this at all!
"What do you mean, 'huh'? Aren't you classmates? From now on, live with Naruto. Also, starting tomorrow, I'll be training you too, Naruto. Just like Sasuke, you'll become my disciple."
"…"
Since he already had Sasuke, Renji didn't mind adding Naruto too.
Hearing Renji's words, Naruto froze. He clearly hadn't expected Renji to accept him as a student.
This happiness came too suddenly.
"Even this dead last is being taken in as a disciple?"
Sasuke turned to Naruto in surprise. At the ninja academy, Naruto had always been a poor student. Why would their teacher accept him?
Was it out of pity for his tragic past?
"But… I'm not talented."
Naruto lowered his head in embarrassment. Even though he had shouted about wanting to be Renji's student, now that the opportunity had come, he hesitated.
"You have great potential. Your father, Minato Namikaze, and your mother, Kushina Uzumaki, were both extremely gifted shinobi. Your talent has just never been developed."
"Really?"
A flash of joy passed through Naruto's heart. Nothing made him happier than being acknowledged and respected.
It gave him a long-missing warmth.
"Of course. Now go rest with Sasuke. There's still a lot to handle tonight."
The day's events were far from over.
Meanwhile—
Itachi stood awkwardly, staring at Shisui and Fugaku.
He hadn't expected that his best friend and father would now stand opposite him.
"Let's go, Itachi."
A spatial vortex spun open, and Obito appeared before Itachi. He had originally come to retrieve Shisui's eyes.
But unexpectedly, Renji had won—and Itachi couldn't match either Shisui or Fugaku.
Two Mangekyō against one. Obito, who had planned to ambush them, now decided to retreat quickly.
If he waited until Renji reacted, escape would be impossible.
But even after he spoke, Itachi showed no signs of leaving. Obito could tell Itachi was still thinking of stopping the two Mangekyō to let the old plan succeed.
Obito could only coldly shatter Itachi's delusion: "Hiruzen Sarutobi, Shimura Danzo, and the others were all taken out by Renji. Danzo's Root has been wiped out. None of the other clans or ninja made a move. Once the sides settled things, the matter was considered closed. Konoha will elect a new Hokage tomorrow."
Zetsu had been watching and informed Obito as soon as the battle ended.
He'd also shared his suspicions: Renji's eyes were strange. They didn't seem like Mangekyō—they looked more like Eternal Mangekyō.
But earlier investigations revealed Renji wasn't eligible for the Eternal eyes.
After receiving this report, Obito knew his only remaining piece was Itachi. Maybe in the future, Sasuke and Itachi would awaken a pair of Eternal eyes. For now, he would exploit the rift between Renji and Itachi—once Itachi had the Eternal Mangekyō, he would definitely come for Renji.
Right now, Obito didn't have the strength to face Renji. If he didn't withdraw, things would get out of hand.
And he wasn't ready to show himself to all of Konoha yet.
"No… how can this be?!"
Itachi's faith was crumbling. Renji had won—and according to prior intel, he would become Hokage.
If Konoha fell into Renji's hands, then the village was doomed.
The Uchiha couldn't possibly become Hokage!
Even now, Itachi stubbornly believed the Uchiha clan was unfit for that role.
If they did, Konoha would collapse.
"It's over. Konoha is finished. That guy—"
"Enough talking. Let's go!"
Obito placed his hand on Itachi's shoulder and used Kamui to vanish from the spot.
The Akatsuki was still short on talent, and Obito needed an Eternal Mangekyō. Itachi was the perfect piece. Until then, he wouldn't allow him to die.
"What was that?!"
Fugaku and Shisui stared at the two disappearing in that strange way, unsure of what to do.
A space-time ability?
"What now?"
In their earlier fight, neither Shisui nor Fugaku had aimed to kill Itachi. They thought they could settle it quickly—but the sudden appearance of the masked man had snatched Itachi away.
"Hiruzen Sarutobi has already been dealt with. Everything will likely follow the path Renji had in mind. We should report what happened here to him."
Shisui sighed. He had failed to deliver on his promise to Renji.
"Then let's go back."
Fugaku nodded.
The two returned to the Uchiha clan and reported everything to Renji.
Renji was a little surprised. He hadn't expected Itachi to awaken the Mangekyō under those conditions.
And with Obito showing up to take him away… maybe it was best to leave that to Sasuke later.
Renji stroked his chin.
He might as well leave a pair of Mangekyō for Sasuke—then he could eventually form an Eternal Mangekyō. Otherwise, with Sasuke's style, he'd burn through his vision in a month.
