Chapter 22 - A Game

The sun rose high, shining its light upon the field. It was the Veridionuasarena, built over two centuries ago, by the first Headmaster of the Veridion Academy.

It was one of the largest arenas in the country, covering an area of about eight acres. It was built with fine clay and was reinforced with mythril, a rare material that had Mana deflecting properties.

In the middle of the arena, a few students and a middle-aged man stood. The man held a clipboard in one of his hands and a pen in the other. The students were panting and gasping for air as streams of sweat rolled down their chins and body.

"Now that's all the warm-up exercises down." The man began speaking in a deep and raspy tone. "Now we will move on to basic swordmanship."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small capsule. With one swift throw, it landed on the ground and formed an arsenal of wooden swords.

"Please pick one of your liking. We will begin with a few swift swings of your swords for practise. Then, we'll - " the man began explaining, but before he could finish, the sound of footsteps echoed through the arena.

The class looked over at the entrance to see another group of students, led by a rather muscular man, enter the arena.

"Ah! Braz! Good to see you here!" The middle-aged man spoke.

"Oh, Graham!" The muscular man also joined.

The students walked over to each other. Some began introducing themselves, while others found and talked with the ones they already knew.

"Ayaka, this seems too... unlikely." A boy who wore a pair of red glasses spoke. He had turquoise coloured hair and eyes and a rather lean built body.

"Yeah... we've been here for over two months now and the arena hasn't been occupied by two classes at once. This is pretty unusual."

"So is being teleported to a novel world." A new voice joined their conversation startling them.

They turned slowly, their gazes landing on a silver haired boy with eyes glimmering like the night sky.

"Zephyr Von Valour..." Haruto muttered under his breath. Ayaka shivered a bit, feeling pressured by Zephyr's presence.

"I assume you've something to do with this?" Haruto asked, judging Zephyr's tone of voice.

"Perceptive as ever," he whispered. "Hero." Haruto clenched his fist and Ayaka placed his hand on the boy's shoulder to calm him down.

"What do you want?" Ayaka asked.

"I want to play a game."
