The forest was thick, but the smoke made it easier to know which way to go. It drifted through the grey sky like a skyline, signifying to them which way to go.
Riven pushed forward, his boots crunching over dead leaves, while Veyla followed close behind, her hand never straying far from her sword.
She still wasn't happy about it.
"This is reckless, Riven" she muttered again, ducking under a twisted branch. "For all we know, it could be another knight, or worse."
"I know. But if there's even a small chance they know the way to the Spire, we have to take it," Riven said, his voice calm but firm.
They climbed a hill, and when they reached the top, they finally saw the camp. It was hidden in a shallow valley, surrounded by trees. But what caught Riven's attention wasn't the camp itself—it was the people.
