I stared at the blue sky as I sipped my coffee. My sunglasses blocked the rays of light from blinding me and I sighed. I glanced at my wristwatch and towards the entrance of the building. There were only two minutes left until the doors opened.
"Eve, right?" a voice called and I turned to see a woman staring at me.
"Hi, I'm Brittany McGrant," she said, smiling.
"Hi."
Short and crisp. I had no intention of having conversations with the other parents or trying to make new friends. I'd managed to keep a low profile for six years, I didn't want anything to ruin that for me.
She stood there watching me silently and I frowned.
"What do you want?" I asked.
My tone was bordering on snappy and impatient. I neither had the time nor the patience to indulge in small talk with her.
"Uh…" Brittany--one of the most popular moms in school---hesitated as she stared at me.
