Told through Veravos’s dry, sarcastic voice, The Dark Fairy King is a sharp-tongued fantasy filled with reluctant alliances, chaotic magic, and unexpected heart.

We're introduced to Veravos, a sarcastic and powerful Dark Fairy who just wants to nap in peace. His quiet is interrupted by a nervous human adventurer trying (and failing) to slay him. Veravos mocks the human rather than killing him, dismissing the idea that all Dark Fairies are evil. The scene escalates slightly when Devran, another Dark Fairy, arrives and encourages Veravos to burn the human or let him kill the intruder himself.


Veravos refuses, preferring to insult rather than destroy. When the human damages his poison apple tree, Veravos briefly gets serious and uses his powers to terrify the man into fleeing. Devran criticizes him for letting the human go, and the two fairies bicker about purpose, power, and the supposed destiny of Dark Fairies. Veravos, uninterested in conquest or Devran's world domination dreams, leaves to find amusement elsewhere since his nap is ruined.
