Chapter 45: Mewtwo Plan Failure

~Azure S. POV~

[Kanto Region, Next Day, Celadon City – Gym]

I prepped breakfast for my team when I woke up early and early in the morning. Pikachu and Eevee were sleeping in my bed.

Growlithe and Dragonair were peacefully sleeping on the ground. All that was left was Gastly, ah!!

*SLURP*

I feel myself getting licked eyeing the culprit as Gastly laughed lightly, "Gastly! Gastly! Kekeke!!"

Rolling my eyes, I used my [Sub-Space] summoning a Cheri-Berri, popping one into my mouth to get rid of the Paralyze status effect. Feeling the spicy flavor of the Cheri Berry activating its effect, I spoke to Gastly in a deadpan tone, "Nice try, Gastly. But since you're feeling awake, how about you help me cook?"

*Poof*

Gastly using her blue gas-formed hand, hand-shaped solidified gas cried out, "Gas! Gastly."

Smiling, she began prepping the berries she brought out from my Spatial Backpack. I began prepping the Berry Mixer and personally made Poke Blocks for them. And for me, a simple breakfast.

When we finished making breakfast, the others got stirred up, sniffing the air. And eventually I had their bowls ready as I said happily, "Morning, everyone. Made breakfast for everyone, hope you all like it!"

They cried out happily with a cheer, "Dra! Arf! Eevow! Pika!"

Getting up from their spots, they savored the food they had devoured happily. Their blissful smiles made each hard work worth it as I ate my bacon. Chewing down my food, I looked at my Arc Phone, seeing the progress the group had made during the week's training.

Checking my Arc Phone, we have a lot to work on. But my bond with Eevee yesterday made her get down the move Veevee Volley.

A move that requires our friendship to turn into an attack. Smiling at this, all that's left is to have Eevee absorb enough sunlight and moonlight to evolve into her last two Eevee Evolutions.

We have the friendship requirement, just need to boost her moves now. Then, all that's left is just patience.

Not only that, but Growlithe has been training very hard too. He even learned Close Combat, battling against Dragonair, and managed to unlock both Flamethrower and Flare Blitz.

All he now needs to learn is the moves Play Rough, Reversal, and Roar. And maybe then I'll have him finally evolve and get my first 'Legendary Pokémon' on my team.

Finishing up with their breakfast, we continued with our usual training as usual. But unless they battle other trainers or wild Pokémon, I feel like my Pokémon won't get enough experience needed to face Koga and Sabrina in their gyms.

I recalled they had their teams just around Lv. 40s, and my team is in no position to handle such a roster. They won't grow stronger unless –

*KABOOOOM*

My eyes widened, hearing a loud sound at a far distance. I wasn't the only one who heard this, though.

Everyone from Erika's Gym Trainer saw an explosion cloud at a distance. Recalling my team, except Pikachu perched over my shoulder and Gastly entering my shadow, we charged ahead, following everyone to the source of the noise.

[Kanto Region, Later, Celadon City – Game Corner]

*RMBL*

We ran to see the sight of the Game Corner in ruins. My eyes widened seeing patrons injured, bleeding, or dead from the sheer force of what caused the whole building and the Prize Corner.

The most concerning thing, though what was most prominent were the Team Rocket Grunts crawling out from the place. When they saw the Celadon City people with Erika, they paled, unleashing their Pokémon.

From that point onward, everyone began tossing their Poke Balls as self-defense. Erika, with a stern expression, roared, "Don't let them escape! Capture each one of these scum for destroying our once peaceful rainbow city!"

This caused an uproar as her allies and followers followed suit in capturing the Team Rocket Grunts as they brought out all kinds of Pokémon. In the manga, they had a variety when compared to the Grimer, Zubat, Golbat, Ekans, or Arbok.

Nah, they'd be throwing hands with Fearow, Nidoran, Primeape, Machop, Graveler, Slowbro, and many more. But course, I brought out my Dragonair along with some people who had Flying Type or a Pokémon that can fly into the air.

*Swooosh*

Seeing multiple Team Rocket members try to leave, I called out Gastly, "Mean Look!"

*Shiii*

Gastly appeared, glaring at them. Their flying Pokémon froze stopping in their tracks as one of them yelled, "Shit! Take – "

I yelled along with a few other allies, "THUNDER BOLT!"

*ZZZZZ*

Everyone in the air who had an Electric-type Pokémon or could learn the move unleashed hell on the grunts in the air, zapping them. Or worse, they fall to the ground paralyzed from the status condition while the ongoing chaos is happening.

I frowned seeing the chaos unfolding beneath me as Erika commands her Grass Type Pokémon elegantly in this clusterfuck. From then on, we attacked from the sky, providing aerial support using any kind of Sp. Attack moves against the enemies.

But it didn't take long, as the grunts below noticed us as they began to attack the sky. But it was when Erika commanded sternly, "Now! Stun Powder!!"

*POOF*

Erika and her Gym Trainers released a cloud of powder at the Team Rocket Grunts. They were caught in the attack as they struggled to get up from the status condition Paralyze placed on them.

Still, though, watching the chaos unfold unsettled me greatly. It made my stomach turn, almost making me puke, smelling the scent of blood in the air along with a few unpleasant smells along the way.

Yet the people beside me were simply as disturbed move forward. I could chalk this up to them having more experience than I, but frankly, living in a world with these superpowered Pokémon around…

I suppose one would be unfeeling about this. No, rather used to it is the proper phrase to say here, as few seem to be Ace Trainers, showing no hint of concern, only pure focus, along with Erika on the battle.

I guess I still have a lot to learn from my fellow seniors to be this battle-hardened. Gotta focus on the battle ahead first.

A few of the Team Rocket Grunts with Poison Type Pokémon commanded, "Quick use Smog! Get us out of here!"

*POOF*

A cloud of poison entered the battlefield, frowning at this. I gave my command as the other trainers called out, "Twister/Gust/Whirlwind/Tailwind!!"

*Wooosh*

A huge tornado blew the smog of poison out of here, leaving the Team Rocket Grunts panicking at the very likely chance of being sent to prison. This has been going on for a while now, with the Team Rocket Grunts struggling to the very end.

I maintained my distance, though, fighting above, assisting others with my Pokémon, providing long-range attacks. While this was happening, though, I got a sneaking feeling what caused this uproar in the early morning…

If my knowledge is right, then the emergence of Mewtwo has begun. Meaning the Prize Corner items and Pokémon are free for the taking…

But with the ongoing chaos unfolding, it's very unlikely. For now, I'll do everything I can to stop Team Rocket from escaping this place.

After all, they're providing so much EXP that I couldn't just ignore it. As the saying goes, the grind never stops.

~Sabrina POV~

[Kanto Region, Later, Saffron City – Gym]

*Shiii*

Teleporting back to my Gym, I frowned, looking at my reflection inside my Gym. My eyes and my nose were bleeding from fighting… Mewtwo.

*Pop*

Tossing out Poke Balls, revealing my injured Pokémon Alakazam, Kadabra, Mr. Mine, and Slowbrow, bleeding extensively, my minions appeared. They were startled seeing our state as I coldly said, "Get them the Full Restores. Now."

They saluted and quickly fled from my presence. Taking a seat on my throne, I used my psychic abilities to clean myself up.

What was a simple retrieval mission of the Celadon City Gym Badge using my Drowzee turned bad when I entered the Celadon City Game Corner. Our secret base within the Good Gym Leaders' noses, hoping to control Mewtwo into leveling the city.

They originally intended for me to see if I could control Mewtwo, seeing I'm the most powerful Psychic they have. Assuming with my powers alone and the naivety of the new Pokémon, it would be simple to persuade them to our side.

But… Mewtwo outright refused. And with his superior Psychic powers easily bested my team and me, leaving such a mess of people, grunts, and Pokémon dead or comatose in his wake from his sudden tantrum, evading us.

And we can all thank that traitorous bastard Blaine for that. That fool had a change of heart at the last second, forewarning Mewtwo of our true intention, making me grit my teeth, enraged by his actions.

Sighing out loud, shaking my head as I used my Psychic powers to heal myself, the Boss is not gonna like the news. However, the news of the Project Reconstruction Eevee in the hands of the boy collecting Gym Badges, Azure Sky, was perfect…

Glaring at a nearby mirror. 'Was perfect…' is an understatement as I used my future sight to see a glimpse into the future.

In one of my visions, I saw a possible future in which Eevee was supposed to go to Red. But a small change can cause a ripple, seeing Eevee following Azure Sky growing beyond what was possible.

Not only that he also managed to fix her reconstruction phase. And to add a bit of salt into our Team Rocket Science Department wounds, he knew other forms of 'Eevee' that we had never seen or heard of before.

However, we only know of this Leafeon variant according to our spies in Celadon Town. The boy, being sheltered by that Good Gym Leader Erika, made collecting information on his progress difficult.

With both the Mewtwo and Reconstruction Eevee projects failing and our secured revenue from the Game Corner lost, I wonder what the boss's plan is next. Soon, the minions came and healed my Pokémon.

*Beep*

One of the computer monitors turned on to reveal my boss, Giovanni, as he said in a neutral tone, seeing my current state, "How did the mission go…"

Explaining everything that happened Boss frowned at the news. But then smirked as he said cooly, "I see. Now that the Mewtwo project is ruined, Blaine is a wanted man. When you recover, Sabrina, you're in charge of capturing the Legendary Pokémon Moltres. I've sent the other admins their mission directives. And when you get the chance, try to collect the Eevee from Oak as it's likely that Azure would send his Pokémon to him."

*Beep*

The call ended as I sighed a breath of relief. Taking the chance to rest, I'll finish soon getting that overgrown firebird.

And as for collecting the Eevee in question, if Oak doesn't have it stored, then I've already notified the guards to allow Azure Sky entry into Saffron City. After all, he must come to my Gym to win my Badge, right?
