The little girl opened her big eyes, but her voice was very small.
It sounded like she was testing the waters, and she was a bit timid.
Caiden Ward looked at her, just feeling a pang in his heart. After a moment, he coaxed gently, "Who said that? Our Maeve is so cute, how could we not want you? Rest easy, as long as you're willing, Uncle Ward will always take care of you."
"Grandma said so." Maeve hugged his neck with her chubby arms and pouted, "That's what Grandma just said. She wanted you to go on a date and give me to Uncle Davis, that's what she meant."
"Didn't Uncle not give you away?" Caiden Ward smiled gently.
Maeve's eyes rolled twice, and she grinned, "That's right, you didn't give me away."
"See, there you go." Caiden Ward lifted his hand and pinched her soft, tender cheek.
Maeve chuckled, kicked off her shoes, and kneeled directly on him.
Caiden Ward let out a muffled "ouch."
The sound was odd and quite loud, which gave Maeve a big scare.
