Arthur and Maki home, Earth 2032
"So you're telling me a woman crashed a meeting with the highest people in the world, with some of the most elite guards and got away. And you're also telling me that magic is real." Jeremiah stares at Arthur with disbelief.
"Yep. They originally wanted to keep it a secret but it leaked somewhere and almost started a revolution across multiple countries, so all the countries in attendance that day made a joint announcement about it." Arthur tells him while taking a sip of some juice in his hand.
"Everything that has been going on in the world has been related to that one incident. About a few months after it came out, Vatican City almost burned itself to the ground. There was so much public outcry that they had to declare martial over there." He said it like it was just an old memory.
"And when did this happen?" Jeremiah asked him.
"Hmmm. I think it happened midway through 2029. It all happened so quickly. After that they started construction on the first site in this city in december."
"Since then there haven't been any major conflicts or issues since governments were more concerned about seeing the success of this project."
"Has anyone seen the true face of this Celeste, or is she like an interdimensional being?" Jeremiah jokingly ask while making another sandwich.
"Well it is speculated that she is a succubus, and way too beautiful for us normal mortals to handle. That's why she always covers her face, but that's just a rumor. No one has seen her true face except for maybe her assistant." Arthur gives him an uninterested look.
He stretches his arm towards Jeremiah's sandwich before getting his arm smacked away. "It may be for the best, since if she has any family it would be easy for the government to kidnap them and force her to hand over all her secrets."
He rubs his slightly bruised hand, "You know, for a man that just woken up from a coma, you have more strength than expected.
"Maybe I'm just built differently." Jeremiah takes a bite of his sandwich.
"You definitely are." Maki whispers from the corner of the kitchen.
"I heard that." Jeremiah grumbles loudly. "Anyway, when is this project supposed to start?"
"It's in two days. On your birthday." She tells him.
Jeremiah stops mid bite of his sandwich, "So let's get this straight. The gates of Purgatory, which is synonymous with hell, are supposed to open on Halloween. The day most associated with hell in the Christian religion. Did anyone not stop to think that this was a bad idea?"
"Of no. Of course there were a few that protested, but they were the minority. Apparently people are more interested in a better power source than releasing demons." Arthur states.
"Well after you eat, you get used to the house. I'm going to head back to work. Don't do anything stupid. Or stupid. Or annoying. Just don't do anything but rest." He grabs his keys off the counter and leaves the kitchen.
"I also should be getting back to work." Maki pulls out a sticky note out of her pocket. "This is the password to the computer. It's in the office upstairs. Use it to order you a new phone or something."
Jeremiah takes the sticky note as she also walks out of the kitchen heading off to her own place of work. He continues to eat his sandwich before finally getting up to explore his new environment.
He slowly makes his way around the house taking in everything that has changed since he's been gone. He noticed a few pictures of him and his siblings while he was in the hospital asleep.
Eventually he finds a room marked with his name, and enters the room to see that it's set up with the decorations from his previous room. He looks at a stack of get well cards sitting on his dresser collecting a pile of dust. He notices the name on one of them. A name he would rather forget. The name of his boss who left him outside. Annah.
He opens the top letter with her name and reads it.
"I'm sorry for leaving you out in the rain like that. I shouldn't have done that to you. I was arrogant, and let my ego get ahead of me. I have lost my job and it is probably for the better. This is the last time I will be sending a letter, so I hope you wake up soon. -Annah."
He puts the letter back on the dresser and looks at the other letters from her. Some were blaming him for staying in the rain, and others were asking him to wake up sooner so he can help her save her job.
Jeremiah put all the letters back to look at later and hopped into his bed to contemplate what to do now.
