The rankings of the heavens and the world were displayed without specific order.
Ranked fifth in the heavens and the world: The Legend of Wukong!
The screen faded to black.
Ranked fifth, The Legend of Wukong!
Yet even after the screen vanished, the powerhouses of the heavens and myriad worlds remained stunned, unable to snap back to their senses.
The Legend of Wukong was incredible.
They had watched those scenes as if they themselves were that defiant monkey, roaring in resistance at the gods and Buddhas that filled the skies, never yielding, never surrendering.
Fate had never been fair to him.
From the moment of his birth, the little monkey had been caught in the schemes and manipulations of others.
Even his title as the Great Sage Equaling Heaven, in the eyes of the so-called divine beings, was nothing more than the fantasy of a clown trapped in delusion.
Some even found tears welling in the corners of their eyes.
"If I could, I'd rush into Wukong's world right now and fight beside him!"
"Right? There's nothing good about those gods and Buddhas up there! If I were there, I'd definitely help kill them all!"
"Hmph! Gods? Buddhas? So many of them ganging up on one monkey? Shameful!"
Anger boiled in the hearts of the strongest across the worlds.
The gods and Buddhas were too detestable.
In the vast cosmic realm, on Daluo Divine Mountain—
Ding! Received reward from Sun Wukong of Journey to the West: Golden Hoop!
The system prompt echoed in Shen Lian's mind.
"Hm?"
Shen Lian raised his brows, seeing a golden circlet materialize in his hand.
Engraved on the hoop was a tiny Buddhist seal bearing the swastika character, yet it was marred with several thumb-sized cracks. The Buddha-nature had vanished, leaving only the faint emanation of a dark, purple-black Monster Qi through those fractures.
"Sun Wukong from the world of Journey to the West?"
Surprise flashed across Shen Lian's face.
As a human, he was naturally familiar with Journey to the West. That meant Sun Wukong had watched the Legend of Wukong just now?
In that instant, curiosity surged in Shen Lian's heart.
The Legend of Wukong had revealed the twisted truth behind the westward pilgrimage and the ugly faces of the divine that orchestrated it.
He was desperate to know—what would that rebellious monkey do after learning the truth?
"System, can I travel to the world of Journey to the West?" Shen Lian asked silently.
"Yes," the system replied.
"Open cross-border gaze."
Immediately, Shen Lian activated the gaze and looked into the Journey to the West world.
Lingshan—endless Buddhist lands.
The demon ape Sun Wukong, now fully transformed, stomped the earth, cracking it open in a thunderous boom.
He raised his head, his scarlet eyes glowing like twin lanterns, fixed directly on the Daleiyin Temple floating above the clouds.
Purple-black devilish energy burst outward from him, clashing violently with the golden light of the sacred grounds, hissing as the forces collided.
"Old Tathagata, come out and face me!" Sun Wukong suddenly roared.
His voice exploded like thunder across heaven and earth.
The golden clouds of Lingshan shattered layer by layer, the sacred soil ruptured, and the overwhelming Monster Qi surged across the entire land like a tide.
A Buddha guarding the mountain gate, startled by the disturbance, hurried toward him, eyes filled with anger and confusion.
"Sun Practitioner, why have you come to Lingshan now?"
Though he smiled politely, displeasure was clear beneath the surface.
This monkey had completed the pilgrimage and been honored—why had he returned to stir up trouble?
And why had he taken this demonic form again?
"Why?" Sun Wukong grinned, flashing razor-sharp fangs.
No need for explanation.
He raised the golden hoop in his hand and struck.
The cudgel, glowing like a divine golden rod, slammed down with unstoppable force—shattering the very void!
Before the Kanshan Buddha could react, he was crushed into pulp.
Splurt!
Blood exploded.
Bright red blood stained the sacred blue stone slabs of Lingshan, defiling what had remained pure and untouched through countless epochs.
Carrying his bloodstained cudgel on his shoulder, Sun Wukong looked up at the Daleiyin Temple atop Lingshan and laughed.
"Old Tathagata, if you won't come out, then I'll kill my way in step by step. Let's see how many of your Buddhist sons and grandsons you can sacrifice!"
The next moment—
"Sun Practitioner, you dare!"
"Blasphemous monkey! How dare you defy Lingshan and cause chaos again?"
"You damned monkey, you killed a Buddha!"
"You remain so defiant and unruly despite following Buddhist teachings. Today, we will suppress you again for another thousand years!"
"Capture this beast!"
With shouts echoing through the skies, the Eighteen Arhat Venerables stepped forth from the Daleiyin Temple. Halos gleamed behind their heads, their forms dazzling with sacred light.
Each exuded terrifying power—some rode dragons or tigers, some held golden bowls, others wielded vajra staves.
As they walked out, the very fabric of space-time trembled.
Sun Wukong's demonic energy was immediately suppressed, vanishing into the ether.
"Sun Practitioner, Heaven has ordained the prosperity of Buddhism. If you had cooperated with the pilgrimage, you could have attained a revered position in our temple and enjoyed endless incense and worship. Why turn against your fate?"
With a heavy sigh, Dragon Subduing Arhat Venerable stepped forward.
His gaze was sorrowful, as though pitying Wukong.
"Heaven's will to prosper Buddhism?"
Sun Wukong's eyes flashed with lightning as he stared down the eighteen Arhats.
"Heaven's will has nothing to do with me. I don't care whether Buddhism rises or falls. But if you think you can deceive me—treat me like a pawn—then you'll have to ask the golden hoop in my hand first!"
His words fell like thunder.
He slammed the golden staff, now pulsing with black demonic power, onto the ground—shaking the Buddhist Pure Land to its core.
"The Eighteen Arhat Venerables of Buddhism? My old grandson has long wanted to test their strength. Come!"
With that, Sun Wukong swept his staff forward, pointing it at the eighteen Arhats, his eyes burning with boundless battle intent.
The Eighteen Arhat Venerables!
In all of Lingshan, they ranked just below the Four Great Bodhisattvas, each at the level of Golden Immortal cultivation.
Among them, Dragon Subduing Arhat and Tiger Taming Arhat had even reached the Taiyi Golden Immortal stage.
And Sun Wukong?
He stood at the peak of Mysterious Immortal.
In the past, he might have hesitated. But now—now that his true self had awakened and the demon ape within was unleashed—he felt no fear.
"Sun Practitioner, why persist in ignorance..." Dragon Subduing Arhat sighed, wanting to say more.
But the Huanxi Buddha among the Eighteen Arhats sneered in disdain.
"Dragon Subduing, why waste your words on this monkey? He's nothing but a piece in our Buddhist game. If he had behaved and fulfilled his role, perhaps we'd have rewarded him. But since he's rebellious, let's just suppress him now. It's not like we don't have replacements. We can always let the Six-Eared Macaque take his place."
