Chapter 510 - Chapter 510: Poipole the Poison Baby!

Poipole, an Ultra Beast discovered in the Alola region. It hailed from another world, reaching this one through the mysterious Ultra Wormholes.

As a Pokémon Breeder, Aven had studied every known species of Pokémon in detail—including the Ultra Beasts, those enigmatic creatures said to defy the normal laws of this world.

But the one before him… was different. The coloration didn't match any record he had seen before. Its white body with golden markings—could it be… a shiny Poipole?

"A shiny Poipole… hatched from this egg?" Aven muttered in disbelief.

If that were true, then this wasn't just any rare Pokémon—Ultra Beasts themselves were often regarded as Legendary-level beings!

And now, one had just hatched before his very eyes…

What's more, Ultra Beasts were said to enter this world only through Ultra Wormholes—and those had only ever been recorded in the Alola region.

So why had an Ultra Beast egg appeared here, in Sinnoh?

His mind raced back to the traces of battle he'd found at the egg's discovery site.

Could it be that Poipole's parents had somehow journeyed all the way from Alola to Sinnoh, fought near the Black Forest, and during the chaos, this egg had been left behind—encased in crystal, preserved through time until now?

But then… why was this one shiny? Was it naturally born that way, or had something gone wrong during its creation?

Perhaps… it was precisely because of that "something wrong"—a mutation, a flaw—that this shiny Poipole's egg had been sealed within the mysterious purple crystal.

If so, then everything Aven had theorized from the beginning might indeed have been true.

This was later proven during the hatching process of the Pokémon egg—had it not been for Lilligant's mastery of life energy, the egg might have remained sealed indefinitely, with no telling when or even if it would have ever hatched.

"Draa…"

"Nido! Nido!"

At that moment, Drapion and Nidoking both wore deeply serious expressions.

They could actually feel an overwhelming sense of pressure emanating from this newly born Pokémon—an aura of domination, not merely in strength, but in the very essence of life itself.

This was a kind of oppressive force that came from a higher lifeform, a being that stood above them on the evolutionary ladder.

It was clear now that this little Pokémon was no ordinary Poison-type—and that only further confirmed Aven's suspicions.

"Poi~ Pole~?"

Just as Aven was still pondering the origins of the Poipole, the newborn creature slowly opened its eyes and let out a soft, curious cry.

Then, its gaze turned toward Lilligant. Perhaps because it had spent so long absorbing her life energy during incubation, it instinctively felt a deep sense of warmth and closeness toward her.

"Lilli~ Lilli~"

Seeing the tiny creature staring at her, Lilligant happily approached.

She gently gathered a small amount of life energy and infused it into the newborn's body.

"Poooi~!"

Feeling the familiar and comforting energy, Poipole let out a delighted coo, narrowing its eyes contentedly as it rubbed its large head affectionately against Lilligant.

"Kir~?"

Kirlia, seeing this, also floated closer in curiosity.

The red horns on its head trembled slightly as it extended its psychic energy to communicate with Poipole.

Back when Poipole was still inside the egg, this was exactly how Kirlia had connected with it—through waves of gentle telepathy.

Sensing the same familiar mental touch, Poipole chirped joyfully and affectionately rubbed its head against Kirlia in return.

"Poipole, it's wonderful to finally meet you. Come, drink some milk first." Aven smiled, handing the newborn a small cup.

It was a carefully prepared mixture—fresh milk from the ranch's cows blended with Berries, making it perfect nourishment for newborn Pokémon.

"Poi~? Pole~!"

Poipole took a cautious sip, then its eyes lit up with delight. It quickly began to drink, happily finishing every drop of the warm, sweet milk.

Seeing that, Aven gently picked up the newborn and began to examine it carefully.

"The development looks excellent… it seems Lilligant's life energy really worked wonders," Aven said approvingly.

But when he probed deeper with his psychic sense, checking the energy flow inside Poipole's body, his expression turned from satisfaction to surprise.

"This energy fluctuation… it's already at intermediate level?"

He couldn't help but draw a sharp breath.

A newborn Pokémon, a creature who just hatched possessing energy equal to an intermediate level Pokémon. That was astonishing.

Aven couldn't help but sigh in admiration. "As expected of an Ultra Beast… a being on the level of a Legendary Pokémon, even as an infant."

"Lilli!"

"Kir~!"

Both Lilligant and Kirlia were visibly shocked by his words.

They thought back to their own beginnings, of how weak and fragile they had been when they first hatched. The difference was like heaven and earth!

If Poipole weren't just born, they honestly would've wanted to spar with it right now—just to see exactly how powerful this newborn really was.

"It looks like we really struck gold this time," Aven said, excitement filling his voice.

"If I can raise Poipole properly, perhaps it really could reach the level of a true Legendary Pokémon one day!"

His entire body buzzed with excitement. To nurture a Legendary-level Pokémon—this was every breeder's ultimate dream!

And now, he actually had that opportunity. From this point forward, he needed to carefully plan Poipole's growth, ensuring it would one day stand among legends.

He recalled that Poipole was one of the few Legendary Pokémon with an evolution. To evolve, it would need to learn the move Dragon Pulse.

Poipole's evolved form Naganadel—was a Poison/Dragon-type Pokémon, a being with truly Legendary power and a species strength capable of rivaling divine Pokémon themselves.

"Dragon Pulse… that's going to be troublesome." Aven frowned slightly.

Among all Pokémon, Dragon-types were the hardest to train. Resources imbued with Dragon energy were both rare and expensive, and learning Dragon-type moves required exceptional conditions.

Dragon Pulse was a wave-based Dragon move with an especially high learning difficulty, and even Aven didn't have a clear method for teaching it yet.

"It seems I'll have to do some special research on that," he murmured.

Still, as a skilled breeder, Aven had confidence. He believed Poipole would definitely grow quickly under his care.

If that came true, then the newly created Pokémon League could finally have a guardian of its own. Although Lake Valor already had Azelf, its appearance came at great cost.

Having a resident guardian Pokémon stationed in a city would be far more practical—Naganadel for day-to-day defense, and Azelf for dire emergencies. That would make the city truly safe.

"Poi~? Poi~?"

The newborn Poipole was full of curiosity and energy.

It gazed up at the floating Kirlia, flapping its tiny arms in imitation—then, to everyone's astonishment, its body actually began to rise into the air!

It floated up clumsily, flipping once midair while giggling nonstop in a string of high-pitched "ge-ge-ge" laughter.

"Kir~!"

Kirlia was startled, immediately floating up beside it to make sure it didn't fall.

"Lilli~"

Lilligant then extended a vine and gently pulled Poipole closer, just to be safe.

The three of them quickly began to play together, laughter echoing throughout the garden courtyard.

Watching the joyful scene, Aven returned to his desk. Using psychic power, he lifted his quill and paper into the air and began recording everything he knew about Poipole.

Currently, Poipole was purely a Poison-type. That meant beginning with standard Poison-type training was the safest approach.

As a Poison-type Ultra Beast, it could likely master nearly every Poison-type move known to exist.

Then there was its Ability—Aven recalled that Ultra Beasts all shared a special trait known as Beast Boost.

It was a growth-based ability that allowed the Pokémon to absorb energy from defeated opponents to temporarily strengthen itself.

Though the enhancement wasn't permanent, repeatedly absorbing enemies' power would bring huge benefits—similar to the move Ancient Power.

"First, let's start by teaching Poipole the move Toxic," Aven planned aloud. "That'll help it stabilize its inner poison energy and gain control over its own power."

Right now, the priority was stability.

A newborn Pokémon possessing intermediate level strength needed to learn restraint before anything else. Once Poipole could properly control a basic Poison move, it would officially be as strong as an intermediate level Pokémon. From there, progressing to high-tier wouldn't be difficult.

(TN: Is toxic a basic move?)

"Next, we'll visit the Poison Swamp," Aven decided. "That place is where Poipole was born—it's filled with concentrated Poison energy that will definitely aid its growth."

With that, he stood up and called to Lilligant and Kirlia, preparing to head out.

Only by fully understanding Poipole's condition could he create a precise training plan. For now, a general direction was enough.

"Lilli! Lilli!"

"Kir~!"

The two Pokémon nodded eagerly and quickly gathered at Aven's side.

Poipole circled around him happily, then noticed Aven's outstretched arm and instinctively floated into his embrace.

Aven smiled, holding the small Pokémon close and gently patting its large head. His eyes glimmered as he looked at the golden needles protruding from Poipole's crown.

It was said that the large bulbous head of a Poipole was filled with venom, which it could fire through those sharp golden spikes.

And as an Ultra Beast, that venom was extraordinary—among the most potent toxins known in any world.

Holding Poipole carefully, Aven and his team set off toward the depths of the Black Forest.

"Lilli~ Lilli~"

Lilligant glanced at the Poipole nestled in Aven's arms, then down at herself, and sighed softly.

She understood that after her evolution, it had become difficult to enjoy that same gentle embrace again. That was the price of growing up.

"Poi~?! Pole~?!"

The newborn, meanwhile, was endlessly fascinated by everything around it.

Whenever it spotted another wild Pokémon on the road, it immediately floated closer to greet them, chirping excitedly.

According to records, Poipole was known to be a highly emotional Ultra Beast—and Kirlia, being sensitive to emotions, could clearly sense just how rich and expressive Poipole's emotions already were.

Even though it had just hatched, waves of emotional energy radiated naturally from its body.

Fortunately, Poipole hadn't yet learned how to shoot venom—otherwise, its curious behavior might have already caused quite a bit of chaos.

Before long, the group entered the Black Forest. Most of the toxic mist had dissipated except around Drapion's territory, leaving the rest of the forest relatively clean.

Many Glooms had taken this opportunity to claim the open areas as new territory. As dual Grass and Poison type, they could adapt to almost any environment.

This was also an important part of restoring the ecosystem—the Glooms absorbed the toxins from the soil, purifying it naturally.

Passing through the outer forest, they soon reached the mist-shrouded borders of Drapion's domain.

There, Lilligant released her Aromatherapy, purifying the surrounding poison mist so Aven could safely proceed deeper.

As they stepped into the Drapion territory, Poipole suddenly became animated. It flew about excitedly, absorbing the drifting poisonous mists into its body as if they were nourishing air.

Then, without needing any guidance, it flew directly toward the direction of the Poison Swamp—drawn by a deep, instinctual familiarity.

"Poi! Pole!"

Hovering over the swamp, Poipole circled again and again, seemingly agitated.

"Kir~ Kir~"

Kirlia floated up beside it, sensing Poipole's emotions.

It was clear that the little one felt something—something buried in its genetic memory. Its emotions had turned quietly sorrowful.

"It seems this swamp truly holds part of its past…" Aven murmured. "Perhaps… Poipole's parents met their end here. That would explain the reaction."

He exhaled softly, then extended his arms to cradle Poipole again.

"Poipole, it's all right. You have us now—we're your family."

Hearing that, Poipole lifted its gaze toward Lilligant and Kirlia, then at the gathered Pokémon nearby.

It nodded firmly.

Then, suddenly, it floated upward with its small body glowing faintly before plunging straight into the poisonous swamp below.

The poisonous mire, which even Poison-type Pokémon found difficult to endure, couldn't harm Poipole in the slightest. In fact, the surrounding poison energy seemed to flow naturally into its body, resonating with it perfectly.

After an unknown while, Poipole finally resurfaced, floating gently out of the swamp.

In its tiny hands, it was holding a small gray stone—plain and unremarkable, with no distinctive marks at all.

Aven's eyes widened slightly.

What was that stone?

Whatever it was, it seemed certain—this was only the beginning of Poipole's mysterious story.
