[Advanced Romance Mission Progress: Misty – 1/3 Complete]
Just as Kazuki expected, the shiny pink Butterfree completely won Misty over. Her deep affection for it met the system's threshold for her advanced romance mission.
Excited, Misty released the pink Butterfree. Kazuki then took out a leftover Health Biscuit from his System Inventory.
"Here, Misty—feed this to the pink Butterfree."
Misty took the biscuit and examined it closely. "Wait… you didn't make this yourself, did you? Is it even safe to eat?"
Kazuki gave her cheek a playful pinch. "I might not be a master chef, but I promise it's not poison."
"And it's good stuff—feeding it will help build trust with your new Butterfree."
Still a little unsure, Misty offered the biscuit to the pink Butterfree. "You poor thing, that was a lot to go through. Have something to eat."
Having already followed Kazuki's Butterfree, the pink one was surprisingly calm and willingly accepted the snack. With just a bite, it immediately looked delighted.
"Whoa, Kazuki! It really likes it! Got any more? I wanna feed it a few more!"
Kazuki smiled and approached her. "Butterfree only eats so much a day. Feed it too much and it'll get bloated."
"Huh? But they're about to mate, right? Shouldn't they eat more to boost their energy?"
"...Excuse me?" Kazuki raised a brow, smirking. "Where'd you get that bit of trivia?"
"W-Wasn't that how it works?" Misty laughed, eyes gleaming mischievously.
"Let's just leave the biology to Professor Oak," Kazuki chuckled.
Turning to the pink Butterfree, Kazuki explained gently, "I'm going to send you and your partner back to Viridian Forest. No need to risk flying across the sea."
The pink Butterfree, having finished the biscuit, looked to Kazuki's Butterfree, clearly willing to follow his lead. And Kazuki's Butterfree, of course, followed its Trainer's instructions.
Compared to braving storms and unknown territories, breeding in Viridian Forest was much safer. The harsh reality of the wild was that only the strong had the right to reproduce.
Though both Butterfree were elite individuals in their species and likely wouldn't have had issues, it was still smarter to take the safer route.
After giving both Butterfree a proper farewell, Kazuki and Misty transmitted them to Professor Oak's lab.
With no city network available, Kazuki could only send a short message explaining the situation—no video call possible.
As the transmission completed, the system confirmed the task's success:
[Mission Complete — "Refuse to Release Butterfree"]
[Reward: Butterfree Exclusive Potential Enhancement Mark has been added to the System Inventory]
[New Aura Unlocked: Beginner Waltzing Aura]
After reviewing his rewards, Kazuki used the Potential Enhancement on his own Butterfree, raising its level from Quasi-Elite Four to full Elite Four-tier.
Even without a Mega Evolution, Butterfree could still undergo Dynamax. Once that was unlocked, it might just become one of his core battlers on the big stage.
With the rewards distributed, Kazuki walked over to Misty, who was still leaning on the railing, quietly watching the distant dance of the Butterfree swarm.
"I'm happy for them," she said softly. "Butterfree just reached the happiest moment of its life."
"I hope they can breed safely in Viridian Forest."
Kazuki wrapped his arm around her. "Speaking of breeding… when's our turn?"
That instantly shattered the mood.
Misty gasped, giving him a sharp look. "Seriously? We're still just kids!"
"Winning championships, becoming Pokémon Masters—there's still a long road ahead!"
Kazuki tugged gently at her soft arm with a smirk. "We don't have to rush growing up, but we can start practicing for making babies… heh."
Misty bumped her head against his chest with a laugh. "You're impossible. You already said we'd wait after you… used your hand on the boat."
"And now just one day later, you're back at it? That's evil!"
"Huh? One day? Feels like it's been forever," Kazuki teased.
"Pervert. You horny pervert."
"At your service!"
"You!" Misty playfully shoved him again as they bickered sweetly in the hot air balloon.
Meanwhile, back at Professor Oak's lab, chaos had broken out.
"What the—? I thought Butterfree could just be released and fly across the ocean themselves! Why is Kazuki leaving the whole breeding process to me?!"
"I mean, I've never even studied Butterfree breeding that much!"
"...Ah, forget it. I'll call an old friend who's an expert."
"But then again, that shiny Horsea and Clefairy Kazuki sent me were real gems—earned me a ton of research data."
"And I recall Kazuki's Butterfree was a unique specimen too. Might be worth another detailed study."
"Normally, no one even writes papers on Butterfree anymore—they're too common."
"But if I document this pairing properly, maybe I could win an award!"
"Good kid, that Kazuki. This could really boost my rep!"
Professor Oak ran over to the transfer machine and retrieved the two Poké Balls.
He released Kazuki's Butterfree first and smiled at the ripple pattern on its wings. "Hello again, Butterfree—we meet once more."
Then he released the shiny pink Butterfree.
After eating the Health Biscuit, the pink Butterfree's wings had developed shimmering diamond-like specks. At first glance, Professor Oak thought he was hallucinating from staring at data too long.
He rubbed his eyes once, twice… until they turned red.
Then he gasped. "Oh my—Kazuki! You little genius!"
"A prodigy! A mega prodigy!"
"No wonder you didn't want to just release them into the wild—this is a unique pairing of rare Butterfree!"
"In all the years of research, we've never had data on something like this!"
"If I document it properly, this'll be award-winning material!"
"Oh, Kazuki! You've done it again! I owe you one, big time!"
"Time to make some calls—breeders, reproductive specialists, conservation officers—"
In no time, Professor Oak used his incredible network to carve out a huge, private breeding sanctuary for the Butterfree pair in Viridian Forest. The setup was elite-tier.
He didn't stop there—top experts from every field related to Pokémon reproduction were brought in one by one.
It was a win-win: Kazuki got what he wanted, and Oak gained exclusive data that might lead to the next big breakthrough in Pokémon studies.
Meanwhile, back with Kazuki—
With the Butterfree pair safely sent off, it was time to plan his next move.
He didn't bring in any Pokémon from the lab rotation this time—because his next opponent was none other than the twisted, ice-cold, dangerously beautiful Sabrina.
She commanded a powerful Kadabra, and paired with her own psychic powers, she'd be a tough opponent to crack.
On top of that, his side mission was to make her smile—easily the hardest part of all.
But the reward? A Prismatic Poké Ball and increased affection from Sabrina.
Kazuki wasn't too interested in the affection part. After all, a yandere psychic woman was hardly easy to read—gain her trust one moment and get teleported into a wall the next.
In canon, just one flash of her red eyes could make objects vanish.
If he did manage to tame her, she'd likely take the lead in everything… and a man couldn't allow that!
If he was going to win her over, he'd have to do it so thoroughly that even she couldn't resist.
Still, Kazuki didn't have concrete plans for her yet. Turning her normal would be the first step—and well, that tall figure, black stockings, and icy elegance were tempting.
But for now, Kazuki's focus was on that Prismatic Poké Ball, which could capture weakened rare Pokémon regardless of their will.
With rarer encounters ahead, that tool would be vital for building a top-tier team.
That's why, before heading to Saffron City, Kazuki decided to detour to Lavender Town—famous for its Ghost-type Pokémon.
Ghost-types naturally counter Psychic-types, making them ideal for his next Gym challenge.
In a certain tower in Lavender Town lived the trio of Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar.
Their potential was unknown, but in the original script, it was one of them—Haunter—who finally made Sabrina laugh and broke her spell.
So between battle preparation, the Gym challenge, and the mission to make Sabrina smile, Kazuki was determined to catch at least one of the Ghost trio.
Preferably all three—especially since Gengar had both Mega Evolution and Dynamax potential.
If any of them had particularly high stats, they could be trained as part of his endgame team for the World Champion circuit.
With his plan solidified, Kazuki set off toward Lavender Town.
—
Halfway there, Misty finally realized something was off.
"Wait, Kazuki—where are we going? Isn't this the road to Saffron City?"
Kazuki didn't keep her in the dark. "The Saffron Gym Leader is Sabrina. She uses Psychic-type Pokémon."
"I'm heading to catch something that counters them—a Ghost-type."
"Oh! So you do know Sabrina!" Misty huffed. "Then why'd you act all confused earlier, asking me about that psychic beauty?"
"You made me—"
She trailed off, suddenly embarrassed.
Kazuki raised an eyebrow. "Made you what?"
Misty blushed. "Made me jealous, okay?"
"Back then, we weren't dating yet, and I saw how curious you were about her..."
"I was so jealous I could've bitten your head off!"
"But hey, maybe that jealousy helped bring us together."
"Anyway, I'm your official girlfriend now. Even if you do win over Sabrina, I won't be jealous!"
"That is… if you can actually win her over. She's crazy powerful! And she's seriously gorgeous. I saw a picture of her once—those legs, that doll-like face, and that… boobs? Whew."
Thanks to Kazuki's influence, Misty had grown a lot—she didn't even dodge the boobs-size topic anymore.
"Trying to provoke me, huh? Don't worry—I've got a plan."
"That's why I'm heading to Lavender Town to catch two Ghost-types first!"
He nodded at a road sign under a nearby tree.
Misty stopped in her tracks as soon as she read it: Lavender Town – Ghost-type Pokémon ahead.
"Wait—Ghost-types?!"
Kazuki raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong, Miss Water Gym girl? Don't tell me you forgot type matchups too?"
"I-I didn't forget!" Misty quickly said, her eyes nervously scanning the foggy road. "I was just… distracted by our hot Sabrina gossip!"
"I know Ghost counters Psychic… I'm just…"
"...a little scared of ghosts, okay?"
She hadn't always been scared of Ghost-types, but after Kazuki's haunted-house-level horror setup at Maiden's Peak, she hadn't been able to shake the trauma.
Seeing the cold sweat on her forehead, Kazuki softened. "Wanna wait for me in Saffron City?"
"It's less than an hour back—I'll meet you once I'm done catching what I need."
Misty nodded quickly. "Okay, be careful, Kazuki! Here—muah!"
She kissed him, rattled off her goodbyes, and sprinted away from the ghostly road like her life depended on it.
"I'll scope out Sabrina for you! And I'm not ditching you, okay? Next time, I'll protect you!"
Kazuki laughed. "Alright, next time you'll be my bodyguard."
"But don't try spying on Sabrina. Go check out the best feed stores instead."
"Butterfree and Pikachu are both looking skinny lately."
Sabrina had a habit of turning people into dolls, according to the script. Better to keep Misty far from her, just in case.
"You're right! That's super important too! My Horsea and your Pikachu have been losing weight!"
"Alright! I'll go find the best Pokémon food vendors. You handle Sabrina when you get back!"
"Bye-bye, Kazuki!"
Talking about food had reignited Misty's passion. She dashed toward Saffron City.
Kazuki, meanwhile, continued his journey toward the ominous Lavender Town, with Pikachu clinging tightly to his shoulder.
"Pika… Pika…"
"Huh? You wanna go to Saffron City too?"
"What, are you scared?"
Pikachu nodded solemnly.
"Seriously? You were part of the ghost prank at Maiden's Peak!"
"You scared yourself, didn't you?"
"Pika…chu…"
"Relax! Lavender Town's not that spooky. Just a couple of playful ghosts!"
As they neared the town, a thick fog began to roll in—okay, maybe it was a little spooky.
Pikachu ducked into Kazuki's backpack, leaving only its head poking out.
Just then, a strange sound whispered through Kazuki's ears…
Ooooo!…
