Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Memories

We were given the tour by the liaison and eventually entered a room with a smaller-scale model of an advanced jet hanging from some wires in the middle of the room.

A young man in a lab coat and glasses walked in talking about the model and how great it is in real life.

"Ah, this is Hank McCoy one of our most talented researchers. Hank, these are our new special recruits." The liaison said as he introduced Hank.

"Excellent another mutant already here, why didn't you say?" Charles said the first part to Hank then next to the liason.

"Say what?" He asked confusedly.

"Because you don't know. I am so sorry." Charles said to Hank realizing he had ousted him.

The liason was shocked at the revelation and then Hank was asked to show what his mutation was.

I saw his eyes light up when he looked at Raven and knew that he was going to show off for her.

He then took his shoes and socks off, revealing his gorilla-like feet, and did a standing back flip and grabbed the edge of the model jet, and hung there with a smile as everyone clapped.

"You're amazing" Raven said as she got close and stared at him.

"Really?" Hank asked.

"I'll say, that's awesome man." I added and he seemed to gush at receiving more praise but mostly the praise from Raven.

(In some frozen ocean on the submarine)

While Shaw was sitting with Emma watching a news reel about the Jupiter missiles in Turkey, Emma was not really paying attention.

Her mind was on Andrew and seeing him again.

'Why was he there? Was he working with the other telepath?' These questions and more rushed through her head until she came back to her senses as Shaw spoke.

"Yeah, we'll fix that as soon as we get to Russia." Shaw said.

"Fix what?" Emma asked her long-standing calm demeanor having been shattered at the re-emergence of Andrew.

Shaw paused as he saw she seemed distracted.

"What's on your mind?" He asked.

Emma didn't know how to explain things.

Shaw smirked.

"Hey you're the mind reader here, not me so why don't you tell me what's wrong" Shaw said.

"You saw that other mutant, the one who made the giant light sword?" Emma said.

"Ah yes, he was quite powerful. What about him?" Shaw commented then asked.

"I know him." She replied.

"How?" Shaw asked his voice now serious.

"As you know, 8 years ago I was imprisoned in a mutant research facility, and he was there." Emma explained waiting to see Shaw's reaction.

Shaw smirked as he believed he could get him on his side as he would hate humans as much as Emma did. He felt he'd be receptive to his plan.

"Tell me more." Shaw said.

"He'd been there longer than all of us, tortured and experimented on for over 9 years. 8 years ago, he freed not only himself, but all of us. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for him. He helped to fight off a mutant experiment being controlled by the human in charge of the facility along with another mutant that seemed to know my sister." Emma explained remembering clearly the moment when he freed her and the rest.

Shaw paused for a moment. This mutant was not just powerful, he took down a powerful mutant experiment, and he has a connection with Emma and other possible mutants that he could bring over to his side.

Shaw had already tried to get Emma to bring her fellow mutants from the facility to join him but they said they'd rather live in hiding away from humans.

Shaw knew that if their savior asked for their help, at least one or two of them would likely join him and that would help Shaw have more powerful mutants for his plan.

The only question was, could he get him on his side?

This is a question he'd hoped to soon have the answer to.

"If we meet him again, you can try to talk to him to convince him to join us." Shaw said.

Emma nodded but she wasn't sure if he would, he had even more cause than her to hate humans, but would he be willing to work with Shaw?

Can Shaw even fight against someone as powerful as him?

Emma had these questions and it's not surprising that she believed Andrew to be too powerful for Shaw to handle as she has had more than a little hero worship for him after he saved everyone 8 years ago.

Emma decided she would see where things go when she meets him later.

She then focused back on Shaw who explained the situation with Russia advocating for peace with the U.S.

She then talked about the other telepath and what they'd do about him which prompted Shaw to show her his helmet that blocks telepathy.

After discovering it worked, Shaw knew he could begin his plan with ease as the enemy telepath was no longer a part of the equation.

Shaw only had two possible worries now, Erik, who he saw was a lot more powerful, and that light mutant who could pose an issue for him.

All these things can be dealt with after the deal with the Russians goes through.

(Back at the facility)

I walked into the room following Erik as I had something to ask him when I saw him interrupt an almost kiss between Raven and Hank.

"Kinky. By the way, if I looked like you, I wouldn't change a thing." Erik said as he walked away.

I followed after him but not before stopping to say something mostly to Raven.

"He's got a point you know. I can't begin to understand how you feel as my mutation is hidden unlike yours, but I'll say this to both of you. You have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of." I said with a pointed look at Raven then Hank before once again walking after Erik

Raven looked torn as the two of them implied she was pretty which she isn't used to, but they can't understand her like Hank can and he can make it so she doesn't look blue anymore.
