Chapter 475 - Chapter 475: A Captain Must Be Accepted, But They Have to Beg Him to Take It

"You're a Shinigami of the Seireitei?", In just a few seconds, Rosse's figure had already appeared before the wary Rangiku Matsumoto.

He tilted his head slightly, appraising her with keen interest.

By scale, Rangiku was absolutely the most extravagant one he'd seen, at least H-rank.

By the 2D-world calculation, she might even be J or K.

Even the prodigies from his world couldn't compare.

Beyond her voluptuous figure, Rangiku's looks and temperament were equally arresting.

A head of orange wavy hair, a face so finely featured it had no flaws, and an aura of full-blown maturity, all unmistakably showcasing her charms.

"I'm Rangiku Matsumoto, Lieutenant of the Tenth Division. Who are you?", Seeing Rosse's black robe trimmed with gold, Rangiku kept her guard up but still gave her name.

One glance told her his robe was custom-made for nobility.

In the Soul Society, not everyone could wear such high-class clothing.

Even ordinary Rukongai spirits with some reiatsu would be lucky to have a single intact cloth garment.

"Rosse. As for the family name... a fallen little house. Not worth mentioning."

Rosse did know the surname Aizen had arranged, but since it didn't match the name he preferred, he was too lazy to use another surname.

Anyway, a fallen minor house, why mention it?

Not everyone had family honor; some people believed their strength came from themselves and didn't care to restore a family name.

"A fallen noble background, huh. So why did you come to see me?"

Rangiku had roughly filled in Rosse's identity in her head, and seeing he made no move to attack, she relaxed a bit.

If he'd come to talk, she wouldn't give him the cold shoulder.

"What can I say... it's a bothersome matter...", Rosse scratched his head in mock distress, looking as if he didn't know where to start.

"Ah! Whatever. You look for yourself, misfortune falling from the sky; I don't even know if I should agree," He stammered, then decisively pulled the invitation Aizen had given him from his pocket and tossed it into Rangiku's hands.

"What on earth?"

From Rosse's words alone, Rangiku had no idea what was going on or why he'd come to her.

But when he threw the invitation, she was cautious for half a second, then took it.

It was only a letter, surely he hadn't poisoned it.

After taking the invitation, Rangiku's expression abruptly froze, "This is a letter issued by the Central 46..."

She was an experienced lieutenant and had seen documents like this before.

Anyone receiving correspondence from the Central 46 would hardly be low in status or power.

Remembering the reiatsu trace she had sensed earlier, Rangiku felt relieved.

She hadn't been mistaken, this person in front of her was a captain-level monster.

'Still... he looks rather dumb, just like the captain in some ways.'

Rangiku muttered a complaint in her mind, then looked up at Rosse, shaking the invitation in her hand, "Such an important letter, are you sure I'm allowed to read it?"

"Read it. It's just a letter. Since you say you're the lieutenant, help me take a look, do you think I should accept?", Rosse urged her to read, casually throwing the question at her.

"What is it? Let me see," Oddly entrusted by a captain-level monster, Rangiku felt a complex flutter in her chest.

In front of Rosse, she opened the letter and began to read.

After reading, she was completely stunned.

Seeing her dumbfounded face, Rosse furrowed his brows and hurriedly prodded, "What's up with you? If something's off, say it. Your look is scary."

"Th-This... The Central 46 Chambers is asking you to come to the Seireitei as a captain?", Rangiku gathered her words and looked at Rosse in disbelief.

Although Rosse was powerful, parachuting someone in as captain like this had no precedent... well, recently the Eleventh Division did storm in suddenly.

Even so, this was irresponsible.

Someone who'd never been a Shinigami, not even from the Seireitei, and they'd just make him a captain?

The key point was, this person would be the captain of her squad.

That meant she'd be under him in the future?

'Wait... hold on...'

Rangiku abruptly looked up, nodding in confirmation yet still bewildered as she gazed at Rosse.

'If he becomes the captain, maybe it wouldn't be so bad.'

'He looks a bit silly, easy to fool.'

From then on, she could have him sign the squad paperwork.

Thinking like that, her heart felt strangely excited.

"Um, do you know what being a captain entails?", Rangiku composed herself and suddenly looked at him seriously.

Although Rosse's sudden appearance was suspicious, she wasn't overly distrustful.

If Rosse had problems, the higher-ups would handle them; it wasn't her affair.

The Gotei 13 was fundamentally a military force, plenty of unreliable captains existed.

At present, at least half the captains were sketchy.

As long as Rosse didn't try to poison her, Rangiku didn't intend to interfere.

If he could conscientiously manage the squad, that would be fantastic.

"What does a captain do... I heard from the Rukongai people that they lead squads to deal with Hollows, and also show up at the Shin'o Academy every day?", Rosse raised an eyebrow.

"Ah... earlier on they did sometimes, but later it's only in special situations."

Rangiku gave an awkward smile. She knew why Rosse would say that, she herself had once joked the same thing before studying at the Shin'o Academy.

Back in the Rukongai, people said captains frequently appeared at the Shin'o Academy, and many were teachers there.

After becoming a Shinigami, she discovered it wasn't like that at all.

Although the Shin'o Academy was important as a preparatory base for Shinigami, captains might only attend class once every few months.

Some captains might not go to the Academy for their entire term.

"So what does a captain do?", Rosse threw the question back; he truly didn't know either.

But he assumed whatever Rangiku said wouldn't be very reliable.

"A captain stays at the barracks, occasionally gives guidance to the officers, and handles most squad affairs at the barracks," Rangiku answered immediately.

"Sounds like a lot of troublesome work... then I won't go."

Rosse didn't believe it. Judging by those lazy captains, he figured most wouldn't handle squad affairs personally.

A captain's position should be taken, yes.

But to accept it, one shouldn't be fooled into taking it, people should beg him to take it.
