Chapter 39 - 039: This is closure

I blinked and then tilted my head slightly.

"Yes, anything you want?"

A flash of pain twisted behind his eyes, but I didn't care.

He opened his mouth, maybe to say something stupid—like I missed you or you've changed. But I cut in before he had the chance to humiliate us both.

"If you're lost, the exit's back that way," I said coolly, nodding behind him.

He froze in his place like I'd hit him.

Good, he should be.

I stepped past him without waiting for a reply, not giving him a second glance.

His scent was still the same—like cedarwood and storms—but it didn't make my chest bloom anymore and it didn't make my knees weak.

Now, it was just another scent, it was faint and unimportant.

"Eva, wait—"

"Don't," I said. "You had your chance years ago."

He turned quickly. "Eva, please—just for a minute—"

I stopped, looked over my shoulder with a bored expression. "Please?" I gave a soft, humorless laugh. "That's new."

"Don't you even want to know why I—?"
