Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: Wood Release and White Fang

"Furukawa, things look grim. At this rate, we'll all be trapped here," Sakumo Hatake muttered, his voice low and quick, a sense of urgency filling the air. Furukawa Itoshiki's expression hardened. He could see the odds stacking up against them—Suna-nin were swarming, and their chakra reserves were dwindling rapidly. If they didn't change the tide soon, they would be overwhelmed."Captain, buy me some time. I have a plan, but it needs preparation," Furukawa Itoshiki said with steely resolve, his eyes meeting Sakumo's.

Sakumo Hatake's gaze sharpened. He knew that when Furukawa spoke like that, there was no room for doubt. He trusted him implicitly."How long do you need?" Sakumo Hatake asked, his grip tightening on his short sword, the crackling lightning dancing around his blade."Ten seconds at most," Furukawa replied quickly, already beginning to form the necessary hand seals.

"Alright, ten seconds, leave it to me!" Sakumo Hatake didn't hesitate. He trusted Furukawa as much as he trusted his own blade."Everyone, listen to my command! Full defense, cover Furukawa!" Sakumo Hatake's voice rang out, strong and commanding.

The team members immediately adjusted their formation, closing in to create a protective circle around Furukawa, their backs pressed together as they used Earth Release to strengthen their defenses. The Suna-nin surged forward once more, their ninjutsu raining down like a torrent."Boom! Boom! Boom!" The explosions were deafening. The Konoha ninjas' Earth Release defenses began to tremble under the relentless assault, groaning under the pressure.

"Furukawa, hurry!" Sakumo shouted urgently, slashing through incoming attacks with his sword, his eyes never leaving Furukawa. But Furukawa Itoshiki didn't respond. His focus was entirely on gathering chakra, his hands moving in precise patterns. Sweat beaded on his forehead, his face growing pale with exertion. The strain was clear—this jutsu was taking everything he had."Not enough, not enough, more chakra... a little more!" Furukawa's mind raced as he felt his chakra reserves depleting. His body ached from the effort, but he pressed on, squeezing every last bit of energy from his cells.

Finally, with a strained roar, Furukawa raised his head, his bloodshot eyes burning with determination. "Wood Release: Advent of a World of Trees!"

The ground shook violently beneath their feet. In an instant, countless thick trees erupted from the earth, their trunks stretching toward the sky as if awakened from a long slumber. The air was filled with the sounds of cracking and splintering wood as the trees grew at an astonishing speed, forming a dense forest where there had once been a camp. The trees were like giant pythons, their thick branches and leaves blocking the sky. The sunlight was completely obscured, plunging the area into eerie twilight.

The Suna-nin who had been attacking the Konoha squad were now frozen in disbelief. They stared in horror at the forest springing to life before their eyes, unable to comprehend the magnitude of the jutsu."What, what is this?" A Suna-nin shouted in panic, their fear palpable. The new generation of ninja, raised after the establishment of the village system, had never witnessed such a terrifying display of power.

"Not good, retreat quickly!" The commanding officer of the Suna-nin, his face pale with fear, shouted desperately. But it was too late. The trees grew with such speed that they swallowed the entire camp in mere moments. The Suna-nin's formation disintegrated as the trees divided them, isolating them from each other, leaving them scattered and helpless.

The area around the Konoha squad was also surrounded by towering trees, but these were gentle and docile, their branches curling protectively around the team rather than attacking. They created a natural barrier, isolating the squad from the rest of the chaos."It's a success!" Furukawa Itoshiki let out a long breath, his body weakening as the strain of the jutsu caught up with him. He nearly collapsed, but Sakumo Hatake was there in an instant, steadying him with a firm hand."Furukawa, are you alright?" Sakumo asked with concern, his sharp eyes assessing the situation. Furukawa was pale, his chakra almost completely depleted."I'm fine, just exhausted. I'll be alright after a rest," Furukawa replied weakly, but a faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips, a sign of relief.

"Lord Furukawa, this ninjutsu is... amazing!" One of the teammates exclaimed in awe. They had heard of the First Hokage's legendary Wood Release, but to witness it firsthand was an entirely different experience. The sight of the forest growing before them was nothing short of miraculous.Sakumo Hatake's gaze swept over the dense, forested environment surrounding them. A hint of admiration flickered in his eyes—Wood Release was truly a force to be reckoned with.

"Alright, now's not the time to rest," Sakumo Hatake said, his voice growing sharper as his eyes focused. "Furukawa has given us an opportunity. Now it's time to counterattack.""Captain, what should we do next?" The teammates asked eagerly, their spirits reignited by the sight of Furukawa's triumph."Furukawa's Advent of a World of Trees has thrown the Suna-nin into disarray. They're scattered, fighting amongst themselves. This is our chance to take them down one by one."Sakumo's eyes glinted coldly, a cruel smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Remember, our goal is to destroy the supply depot. Eliminate all obstacles!"

"Yes!" The team responded in unison, their voices filled with determination and fiery resolve.

Sakumo Hatake turned to look at Furukawa Itoshiki, his eyes filled with gratitude and unshakable trust. "Furukawa, leave the next battle to me."

Furukawa nodded. He understood that the next battle would be the real test, and it would be Sakumo who led them through it.

Sakumo Hatake drew a deep breath, his fingers wrapping around the hilt of his short sword. Lightning sparked along the blade, crackling with energy.

In the blink of an eye, his figure vanished like a phantom, merging seamlessly into the dense, dim forest."Lightning Release: Body Flicker Technique!" Sakumo's voice echoed eerily, like the whisper of a grim reaper.

The forest was suddenly filled with the screams of agony, rising and falling in waves. The Suna-nin, still reeling from the chaos Furukawa's jutsu had caused, were now helpless in the face of Sakumo's onslaught. His speed was a blur—faster than the eye could follow, faster than lightning itself. He zipped between the trees, his blade striking with lethal precision. Each flicker was a death.

Lightning flashed, the short sword gleamed, and blood sprayed across the foliage. In the dim light of the forest, a massacre unfolded, the once-dominant Suna-nin rapidly falling before the relentless assault.

At this moment, the Konoha White Fang had transformed into a god of death, a reaper harvesting the lives of the Suna-nin with chilling efficiency.

The rest of the Konoha squad, led by Sakumo, swiftly followed suit. Using the cover of the trees, they moved with deadly coordination, targeting isolated Suna-nin and eliminating them with precision. They worked seamlessly together, their movements almost mechanical in their synchronization.

The Suna-nin camp descended into complete disarray. Panic swept through their ranks, and the air was thick with the clash of weapons, the sound of trees falling, and the cries of those desperately fighting for their lives.

The Suna-nin commanding officer, upon witnessing the chaos unleashed by Furukawa's World of Trees, realized the magnitude of the situation. He knew he had to escape the forest before it consumed him. But the trees grew too quickly, too overwhelmingly, and his attempts to flee proved futile. He was trapped, like a rat caught in a maze.

Frantically, he searched for other Suna-nin to regroup and defend, but all he found was an oppressive darkness, filled with the terrifying sounds of death. The Konoha ninjas, with their deadly speed and power, had already turned the entire camp upside down.

"No... I can't die here!" The Suna-nin officer shouted desperately, his voice tinged with panic. "I still need to return to Sunagakure. Sasori is waiting for us!"

In a final act of defiance, he swung his kunai wildly at the trees, hoping to break through the impenetrable barrier. But his attacks were useless. The trees were unyielding, their trunks as solid as iron.

In the midst of his desperation, a flash of lightning appeared before him, moving so fast that he couldn't even react.

The cold blade sliced through the air, like a serpent striking its prey. Before he could even blink, the blade pierced his throat.

The Suna-nin officer's eyes widened in shock and fear, his mouth opening in an attempt to scream, but only hoarse gasps escaped. Blood poured from his throat, splattering the ground and staining the leaves.

Sakumo Hatake stood before him, his face a mask of cold detachment. He regarded the officer like a dead man, offering no mercy.

"It's over." Sakumo's voice was calm, almost indifferent. The words fell from his lips as if they were no more significant than the wind passing through the trees.

The Suna-nin officer's body crumpled to the ground, his life extinguished in an instant. His eyes remained wide open, filled with a final expression of helplessness and despair.

Without a second glance, Sakumo Hatake turned and disappeared back into the shadows of the forest, his hunt continuing.

The sounds of the forest were now reduced to a chilling silence, save for the faint rustling of leaves and the distant echoes of dying screams. The once overwhelming force of the Suna-nin was now little more than scattered remnants, their numbers rapidly dwindling.

Furukawa Itoshiki and the rest of the Konoha squad moved in sync with Sakumo, each one a silent executioner. Their teamwork was flawless, their efficiency deadly. One by one, the remaining Suna-nin fell, unable to match the overwhelming power and coordination of the Konoha team.

In less than half an hour, the forest was still once more. The only signs of the battle that had just transpired were the lingering scent of blood and the rustle of the wind through the trees.

The battle was over.
