Could Claire really have predicted he would come?
Gilbert's sharp gaze swept the room. After checking his phone, he confirmed that Claire had indeed left.
His eyes narrowed. Just then, his phone rang.
It was Kate Taylor.
He answered.
"Gilbert, great news. I just saw Claire."
"Where is she?"
"She came to Heidelberg Hospital. I don't know why, but I saw her head toward a patient room."
"Alright. I'm on my way."
Gilbert hung up and strode out.
Inside the patient room.
Alvin Nelson lay on his side, eyes half-closed. A bandage wrapped around his thigh; his face was pale, his condition clearly poor.
Claire slipped in quietly.
"Alvin, how's your injury?" Looking at this man who loved with painful devotion, she felt a wave of guilt and asked softly.
Hearing her voice, Alvin's eyes flew open. Seeing her concerned face filled him with joy. He immediately tried to sit up.
