"When I hear you talk like that, your ex-husband doesn't sound like such a monster after all," the message read. "He seems like a decent man with feelings. Maybe not as twisted as you made him out to be."
Claire gave a mirthless laugh, short and cold. "He absolutely is a twisted monster. Heartless. Cruel. Of course, he isn't like that with his children, or the woman he loves. But with me? He was ruthless. I never want anything to do with him again. Not for the rest of my life."
On the other end, Gilbert stared at his phone, the corner of his mouth twitching faintly.
"Hating a man that much… isn't it a bit much?" he typed. "He's still the father of your children. Besides, I've seen him on the news. Charming, handsome, compassionate, always donating to charity. He doesn't seem as terrible as you say."
He was trying his best to defend himself, even if she didn't know it.
But Claire wasn't buying any of it.
