A pause came first, then her fingers rose like smoke. One finger slid forward, aimed at the soft glow tracing the west wall's edge.
" - defense runes too. Layers upon layers. Even the air here is marked. No one could slip past without being noticed."
A weight settled deep. Down went her breath, watching threads of light twist in the black.
Down there, a shift caught her eye. Movement had started beneath.
Lantern glow slid along their shiny armor as green-clad figures moved the yard. Stone echoed under synchronized footsteps, steady and sharp. Drifting was not allowed. Looking away even briefly - never happened. Every inch got checked, each guard part of something larger, ticking forward without pause.
