Meeting Kakashi
Fighting in a shinobi war is more complex than it was ever shown.
Unlike the fourth great shinobi war which ended in just 2 days, the great shinobi wars before it lasted for years.
The first great shinobi war, fought under Tobirama Senju officially lasted for 1 year and 9 months before it ended with the overwhelming victory of the hidden leaf.
The cause of the first great shinobi war was simple. After forming villages, ninjas were becoming too powerful. So daimyos of different nations wanted to stagnate their continuous growth. On top of that, apart from the hidden leaf, all the other major Nations lacked the vast amount of resources and naturally good, fertile land that the land of fire had. So under the support and influence of the Daimyo of the land of lightning, the hidden cloud village had started the first great shinobi war against the land of fire and the hidden leaf village. But soon the Daimyo of land of lightning understood that without proper power waging war was only foolish. But by that time it was already too late. Due to the influence of Hashirama and Tobirama, the hidden stone decided to ally with the hidden leaf. In the end, even without any official alliance, the hidden sand, the hidden cloud and the Hidden mist fought against the hidden stone and the Hidden leaf before they were defeated thoroughly. Even without people like Hashirama or Madara, Tobirama in his prime along with the alliance of Senju and Uchiha were unstoppable back then. Not to mention the support from the land of Whirlpool also helped the hidden leaf in seizing the victory. But it was also the war which ended the glory days of the hidden leaf. After the death of Tobirama Senju, Hiruzen Sarutobi took the position of the hokage and focused on maintaining the status quo outside the village and preserving the fragile peace. It would have been fine if Hiruzen had retained his pure heart without any dark spots. But it wasn't the case. After coming into power, Hiruzen not only understood its value but also got addicted to it. That's why he gave his close friends very important positions of the hidden leaf. On top of that, the racist ideals of his teacher also affected him to a great degree.
So when the second great shinobi war began on old grudges, the leaf village started to decline rapidly. The second great shinobi war lasted for almost 6 years. And by the end of it, the Senju clan had almost gone extinct and the Uzumaki clan was annihilated. Obviously all of this was not a coincidence. Even if Hiruzen was not involved in any of these incidents, after everything was done he had learnt about his bosom buddy Danzo's involvement in these incidents.
But Hiruzen didn't want to throw away Danzo. First of all, he needed the man to do all of his dirty work. Secondly, Danzo was the only one who knew that he was bisexual and with whom he can have fun. And more importantly Danzo was the perfect scapegoat that can be sacrificed in the worst case scenario. That's why Danzo has gone unpunished so far. But coming back to the topic of War, neither the first or the second great shinobi war was won without a price. Can't live, shinobi had died in those wars. The third great shinobi war was not an exception either. A lot of shinobi from civilian backgrounds have already died.
That's why, after the hidden stone village declared a ceasefire, to lessen the pressure from the shinobi at the frontline, the hidden leaf allowed a majority of them to return to the village while replacing them with a small amount of shinobi to keep an eye on the border.
So with the homecoming of so many shinobi the village became lively. But it wasn't necessarily a good thing for a few people. Even without doing much in the frontline, Tsunade, Minato and Usagi became famous for their victory over the four tails jinjuriki. Especially when Orochimaru decided to give the majority of the credit to Usagi for their victory in the frontline, she became a rising star in the village overnight. But the same thing cannot be said about Orochimaru and Sakumo Hatake.
In the case of Orochimaru, the opinion of the villagers were quite restrained because despite the initial loss in their forces, he had led the army to the ultimate victory. Many still talked about his inhuman methods and how he sacrificed so many of their comrades, but it was still under control.
But Sakumo was not that lucky. Even before he managed to return to the village, his reputation was already going down thanks to Danzo. Even if he had failed to complete the mission, Danzo was very determined to eliminate Sakumo from the race of hokage. Sakumo's team returned to the village a couple of days before Tsunade and her team returned. And by that time, Sakumo's image in the village had already hit the Rock bottom.

I quickly counted my bills and handed over the appropriate money.
"Thank you for shopping, please come again !" Ignoring the greetings of the shopkeeper I grabbed the fruit basket and headed towards my destination. The fruit basket was filled with mangoes and apples. The type of fruit that you would usually get in late summer. The heat of a meeting from the stone road was enough to remind me of the advantages of my barriers. With the amount of skin I was showing in general, the heat would have definitely tanned me long ago if not for my personal skin care barriers.
Unlike the people of this world I had the chance to see the world in a different perspective due to my experience from my previous world. In this world most shinobi always focus on offensive techniques so much that they forget the kind of things a defensive technique can do. It was exactly the reason why even without much real life battle experience I have managed to reach the level of an Elite jounin at such a young age.
It has always been the problem of perspective. It was the mindset of the people that was causing so much problem for Sakumo right now. Speaking honestly, he has become a variation of 'naruto' for the village. Personally I have not interacted with the guy much. The first time I met him was on Kushina's birthday when he had come with Jiraiya.
Our second meeting happened not long after that when he had come to the barrier department under the order of Hokage. And my final meeting happened with him in a training ground where he was practicing his sword art and I had gone there to test my barriers. It was our final meeting before the war started.
Standing in front of the gate of his estate, I took a deep breath. He is a nice guy. So, even though I didn't know him for a long time, I wanted him to survive.
Along with the fruit basket I had brought another gift for him. A newly released book, "cultural sword arts." The book was written by me, under the pen name of 'rose'. Of course from the name itself any otaku should understand that it was a very cultural novel. It took me a while to get my literature skills to the appropriate level where I could write cultural novels and earn some additional money. Being a reincarnator in the Naruto world and not writing a cultural novel is the greatest sin anyone can commit. Since Jiraiya has yet to release his Icha-Icha Paradise, I had high hopes for this book.
Before I could call out for anyone outside the gate, someone came out of the house. It was a little boy with silvery white hair which looked worse than a bird's nest.
With the signature deadpan look at black mask I immediately recognised the little guy. It was none other than Kakashi. The boy came straight towards me and asked me while staying on the other side of the gate.
"Who are you and what do you want ?" His tone can be considered borderline rude. But I didn't blame the guy. He was still in his emo-chunni phase. The kid looked like he could enjoy some positive atmosphere with the metaphorical dark clouds on his head.
I was not in my jounin vest and was wearing a crop top that was holding my twin mountains tightly along with short shorts and shoes. In this look I could easily pass up as a normal civilian girl if not for my headband around my neck.
"I am Usagi, an elite jounin. I am here to meet Sakumo senpai. Is he home ?" I asked Kakashi with my cheerful voice.
