Chapter 66 - CHAPTER 67

067: Ash's Domestic Violence Scene!!

Ash stood calmly at the center of the field, raising his voice with a casual but confident tone. "I want to ask—anyone here want to battle?"

"I'm coming~!" Before the words had even fully left Ash's mouth, a tall and thin student darted into the arena, beating out the many others who had been itching to jump in.

"Assi!! That guy's too slick—he rushed straight into the field!"

"How dare he! I was about to go up next!"

The scene sharply contrasted the earlier fourth round, when Ash had struggled to get anyone to step forward for a match. Now, however, every student on the sidelines looked like they were eager to take him down.

Despite the excitement buzzing around him, Ash didn't feel annoyed at all. Instead, a smile tugged at the corner of his lips. Clearly, they thought he could be defeated now.

Ash exchanged a meaningful look with Froakie. No words were needed—the message was clear: Let's teach them a lesson they won't forget.

"I'm Tes Nine-Two-Seven, from Vermilion City! My partner today is going to be this guy!"

"Let's go, Pikachu—it's your time!" Tes shouted dramatically as he threw his Poké Ball. In a flash of light, a small but energetic Pokémon appeared.

"Pika" the familiar cry rang out.

Ash's eyebrows arched the moment he laid eyes on the opponent's Pokémon. "Huh? Pikachu?"

A yellow-furred electric mouse with long ears and a lightning-bolt-shaped tail stood in front of Tes, its cheeks crackling slightly with static. It tilted its head in curiosity, meeting Ash's gaze with wide, innocent eyes.

"System," Ash said silently in his mind, "Scan the opponent's Pikachu."

"Not every Pikachu can live up to the name," Ash chuckled to himself, staring at the stats. "A real Pikachu is one that's climbed its way up from being a Pichu—this one's not quite there yet."

But while Ash remained calm and collected, others watching from the sidelines weren't so relaxed.

Gary, observing with crossed arms and narrowed eyes, muttered, "Pikachu? That's an Electric-type. That's a direct counter to Ash's Froakie."

"Yeah," another student added. "Ash should've just quit after the fourth win. Sticking around for a fifth match after Froakie's already exhausted? It's a bad call."

"Exactly," Trevor sighed. "He's pushed Froakie too hard. They're up against an Electric-type now, and Froakie's a Water-type. The odds were already tight—now it's hopeless."

"This hot streak might've just made Tes famous instead," Tieruno said with a shrug. "What a pity."

Even Shauna couldn't help but frown in concern. The atmosphere among the small group was glum, as if Ash had already lost.

Only Goh, hiding a satisfied smirk, whispered in his mind, Lose already... do it.

But in the midst of the quiet pessimism, Serena—standing off to the side in her signature white-and-pink outfit—still held on to hope.

Stephanie, nervous but unwavering, tugged at Shauna's sleeve. She stared at Ash, who stood smiling with absolute ease, and shouted silently in her heart: He's going to win! I know it!!

Both Trainers and Pokémon were now in place, their eyes locked on each other.

The referee, a guest researcher positioned near the edge of the dam, raised his arm sharply and declared, "Battle start!"

"Pikachu! Thunder Shock, now!" Tes barked without delay, pointing confidently.

Crackling sparks danced across Pikachu's cheeks as it charged up its attack. A bright bolt of electricity shot forward with a ZAP—a sharp, whistling streak aimed straight at Froakie.

The crowd leaned forward, bracing for what looked like the inevitable. But Ash's calm didn't waver.

Because the real show was just about to begin.

When the battle began, the tall and skinny boy across from Ash shouted an attack command with a gleam of excitement in his eyes, as if he had already seen himself basking in the glow of victory. He was clearly convinced that the type advantage alone would guarantee him a win.

However, like many others present, he made a critical error underestimating Ash's strength. In truth, everyone watching had underestimated him.

Despite appearing only six years old, Ash's eyes held the wisdom of experience he wasn't someone who acted rashly. Those who had witnessed his previous four consecutive victories should have known better. He wouldn't take on a fifth match unless he had a clear strategy in mind.

Indeed, Bubble Frog (Froakie) was visibly worn from the prior battles, and yes, Pikachu's Electric-type moves should have had a clear advantage against a Water-type. But Ash's confidence remained unshaken.

Because he knew this wasn't over yet. Froakie still had a hidden trump card.

Across the field, the opposing Pikachu clapped its tiny paws together, charging static electricity through the sacs in its cheeks. A brief crackle of lightning arced across its saffron-yellow fur, drawing gasps from the audience.

Ash narrowed his eyes. He couldn't afford to take that Thunder Shock directly, even at its current power. He quickly gave a sharp command: "Froakie, back off and create distance activate Aqua Ring now!"

"Quak!" Though panting slightly, Froakie responded with flawless timing, a testament to both his resilience and the strong bond he had with Ash after their battles together.

"Chila!"

"Crack!" Pikachu unleashed a burst of Thunder Shock, electricity streaking forward but Froakie's spring-like legs launched him backwards just in time. He evaded with a roll, his body twisting midair as he inhaled deeply.

"Gururururu…" As Froakie landed, the ambient moisture in the air shimmered and rapidly condensed. Before the audience could fully register what was happening, two tendrils of pure water coiled around Froakie's body, forming a healing veil Aqua Ring.

"Quack~" The circle of water shimmered gently, channeling Water-type energy into Froakie. To Oak and assistant Kōjiro's astonished eyes, it was like watching a wilting plant perk up in a summer rain. Froakie's ragged breathing slowed, his limbs steadied, and that familiar sharp glint returned to his round amphibian eyes.

Gasps and murmurs rippled through the student body.

"Wait did that Froakie just use Aqua Ring?"

"I thought the starter Pokémon we got only knew three moves?"

"Yeah, Froakie's standard moveset was Pound, Bubble, and Growl. That's what Professor Oak distributed!"

Oak rubbed his chin, visibly perplexed. "Aqua Ring is not a move Froakie should be able to learn naturally at such an early stage… unless…" He trailed off, eyes narrowing. "Unless Ash personally trained and guided Froakie into awakening it through battle repetition and tactical reinforcement."

Kōjiro hesitated. "But even then, Aqua Ring isn't part of Froakie's early developmental set unless there's outside influence."

Even Oak, a leading figure in Pokémon research, couldn't fully explain it and if he was stumped, the rest of the class didn't stand a chance of guessing.

But Ash wasn't interested in explaining. Whether Oak understood or not didn't matter. He was here to win.

Having dodged the opening Thunder Shock and activated Aqua Ring to steadily restore stamina, Ash now shifted his stance and it was time for him to counterattack.
