The system's crisp voice echoed in Kai's mind. He raised an eyebrow, surprised. He expected it to take several minutes to process, but Might Dai's explanation had apparently sped things up.
"Activate One-Button Max Level!" Kai commanded mentally.
For others, mastering the Eight Gates required years of rigorous training to strengthen their bodies to withstand its demands. But Kai, having spent considerable time under the influence of Lightning Release Chakra Mode, possessed a vastly superior physique.
The key was determining how many gates his body could handle.
"Ding… Please wait, host…"
"Ding… Congratulations, host! One-Button Max Level for the Eight Gates Formation achieved."
A wave of warmth washed over Kai as the system imprinted the complete knowledge of the Eight Gates Formation into his mind.
The meridians associated with the Eight Gates were instantly strengthened and optimized by his surging Lightning Release chakra, their resilience increasing several times over.
"Ding… Detecting host's acquisition of Konoha-style Taijutsu. Activate One-Button Max Level?"
Kai raised an eyebrow, surprised.
He saw that the scroll contained Might Dai's unique taijutsu techniques, along with other Konoha-style taijutsu. The system had detected this and upgraded his body to the level required to master the techniques.
At this rate, he could reach Might Guy's level in the original timeline.
Opening seven gates would be easy; eight, however, would likely be fatal.
But Kai wasn't concerned. The free Eight Gates Formation was a significant gain.
He wouldn't push his luck.
He activated the One-Button Max Level command.
"Ding… Please wait, host…"
"Ding… Congratulations, host! One-Button Max Level for Konoha-style Taijutsu achieved…"
"Ding… Congratulations, host! One-Button Max Level for Physical Attributes achieved…"
Kai's physical attributes underwent a dramatic transformation.
"Kai…" Konan's voice cut through his thoughts. She burst into the tent, breathless.
Kai frowned. "A change of plans?"
Konan, catching her breath, said, "Urgent message from Amegakure ANBU.
Danzo and Root have been spotted in Northwest Mountain Region. We're to assist Amegakure ANBU in apprehending him."
"Danzo?" Kosuke Maruboshi's expression changed. The Third Hokage had tasked him with finding Danzo after his defection.
But Danzo, as Root leader, was incredibly elusive.
The search had yielded nothing.
Finding him in Amegakure was a stroke of incredible luck.
"Seems you're interested. Care to join me?" Kai clapped Kosuke on the shoulder, a smile on his face.
Kosuke rolled his eyes. "You want free help. But don't underestimate Danzo."
Kosuke, the Third Hokage, and Danzo were classmates. Kosuke, burdened by guilt over a mission gone wrong, had forgone promotion, remaining a genin while secretly assisting the Hokage with sensitive tasks, much like Jiraiya.
"Underestimating him would be underestimating me!"
Kai stood up, a glint in his eyes. "Some old scores need settling."
Meanwhile, at Hanzo's iron tower in Amegakure…
Hanzo's tower was heavily guarded, layer upon layer of security. Inside his dark chamber, only Hanzo's faint breathing could be heard.
"Hanzo-sama, scouts report they're heading to Northwest Mountain Region. Should we move?" an ANBU ninja appeared silently.
"No. Have you found the person I asked you to bring?" Hanzo's eyes snapped open. "They intend to use Amegakure to lure Uchiha Kai. We'll use this opportunity to eliminate them all. Mangekyō Sharingan or Rinnegan, they'll all be mine!"
His words hung heavy in the air. The ANBU ninja was unfazed; a decisive Hanzo was a familiar sight.
"Hanzo, your ambition knows no bounds. But don't forget my share," a smooth, chilling voice cut through the silence.
"Who's there?!" The ANBU's eyes darted around, his hand instinctively reaching for his kunai.
A man in a white robe, with long white hair and a white bandage over his mouth, stepped into view. His mummified appearance was unnerving.
"Who are you? How dare you intrude on Amegakure's most secure location? Where are the guards?!" the ANBU roared.
Hanzo, aging and past his prime, had tightened security around his tower, employing numerous relatives and trusted subordinates in a multi-layered defense system. Yet, someone had infiltrated his supposedly impenetrable fortress.
"No need to shout. I dealt with the guards," the man said, his voice smooth and chilling.
"But Hanzo, you've gotten soft in your old age. All these guards while you sleep? If I didn't have a few tricks up my sleeve, I wouldn't have gotten in."
"You're looking for death!"
The ANBU, enraged by the man's audacity, lunged forward, kunai in hand.
But Hanzo stopped him with a raised hand.
