The desk and chairs that were stacked against the door was slowly taken away and the four students slid through the opening. They carefully walked along the pathways trying to avoid the infected, they saw a few that swayed aimlessly and they did there best to avoid them. When the students left the classroom the other students didn't bother blocking the door again, they wanted to move as soon as the other returned. Ben wanted to go too but his fear rooted him doing so, he had seen how the infected moved and just by not moving could prove your death, he was not like Felix who would jump out school windows like a maniac and he did not have the speed to keep running.
The four students continued walking cautiously doing there best to stay quiet. They managed to leave their school building successfully without having to deal with any of the infected, but they knew their luck wouldn't last forever. They reached the building of the teachers lounge and lucky for them it was a teachers area so there weren't many students there. Noel opened the door and as the door clicked open a teacher sprang at her which caused her to scream as she was pinned down.
A wheeled chair was nearby and James hand grabbed it to hit the infected away, but as the wheel was close to the infected teacher's head his forced stood, he couldn't bring himself to. Felix saw his hesitation and pulled the chair from his hand and used all his force to hit the infected in its head twisting it's head to look in the opposite direction. The infected dropped and rolled to the side struggling to stand. As Noel stood up she immediately slapped James and stormed into the teachers office.
They check the board chase glass cabinet and the keys for the bus were gone. While they were looking around as some keys were scattered against the floor Felix saw the Physical Education teacher outside and around his waist dangling were a set of keys.
" Mr. Loww probably has the keys," Felix said catching the attention of the others who walked over to him.
" The bastard," Noel cursed under her breath. Mr. Loww was one of the teachers she hated, he was always hogging the keys as if he own the school buses.
" We should go," Felix said as he opened the window. Davia watched as her brother took the lead. Why was he outshining her? She was better than him.
The students climbed out the teachers lounge carrying whatever could be used to defend themselves, one after the other as they made their way running across school grounds. They got the attention of some of the infected students started chasing them. James and Felix were up front and James wanted to get the keys more than anything, if he could get them he could go home and see his sister. He ran up front further than Felix.
The infected Mr. Loww was only standing and turning awkwardly but as if James had crossed some kind of line the infected teacher swung around charging at him at immense speed, James was shocked dropping to the ground as the infected Mr. Loww jumped up to devour him. Felix came from nowhere swinging a table leg he was carrying that smashed into the infected Mr. Loww's neck, breaking it on impact and he dropped tumbling. Everything was so fast as Davia saw her brothers actions, it was as if he had calculated everything, like he knew it was going to happen. Felix then helped James up and Noel took the opportunity grabbing the keys from Mr. Loww's waist.
They all started running darting away, their lungs burning. The infected were coming from all sides. They knew they couldn't just run back to the class as the infected would follow them and break the doors down. They decided to take a detour to shake some of the infected off. Noel was in lead then James, then Felix and Davia behind.
They soon had made a lap around one of the schools building, while they were running Felix threw the table leg he was carrying at a trash can in the distance, a loud bang was heard getting the attention of some of the infected to turn direction. They stopped resting and hiding at time knowing they didn't have the stamina to keep going without break.
The other students remained in the classroom biting their fingers, some waiting impatiently, others thought they probably wouldn't make it. Ben was in the corner thinking in thought.
" Even if you don't get the keys just return guys," he thought hoping the others would return without a dying member. While in thought the students heard a boy spoke some words that got everyone's heart to thump in relievement.
" Guys the military is here," the boy stuttered not believing his own eyes. They rushed to the window to confirm his statement and it was true, their were four soldiers in the distance. Audrey pushed pass the others to get a better view. Her eyes widen bringing tears as she saw who it was, it was her father.
" I knew my father would come. I knew it. I knew it," she repeated through happy tears.
The soldiers came onto ground, their bodies bent creating a smaller frame of themselves as they jogged doing their best not to be seen out in the opening. While moving they heard the infected to a different side of the school ground. One member asked if they should check it out, but the leader was against it saying it was best to use the opportunity while they were distracted. When the leader said that no one protested. One of the members only mumbled a small prayer.
" May the Lord be with whoever you or they are and forgive I as I turn a blind eye"
Audrey saw her father and wanted to let him know where she was.
" Dad!" she shouted and got everyone trembling, a lump dropping in there stomach. It didn't matter how many different noises they were the man knew his daughter's voice by heart. Some of the scattered infected heard the shout and quickly made their way to the sound. The soldiers saw what was happening and ordered they should move quickly now and take them down while their backs were turned. The soldiers ran to the school building and where there was two or a single infected they minimized the noise by using weapons of machete, sword, a baseball bat and a shovel to kill the infected.
The students could hear the noise of action getting closer and then it finally stopped. One of the soldiers knocked on the door and called out in a low voice for Audrey. The doors were open up to the soldiers and some of the students cried now upon seeing them. Two of the soldiers stood post outside by the door and another two was in. The man walked over to his daughter gripping her in a tight hug. Now he felt more at ease. He released her and looked at the other students counting them, there were nine students.
Audrey's father only took three soldiers as he only planned on rescuing his daughter, but now he couldn't just abundant the others, maybe if there were less of them he would have done so, but know he could bare the thought of leaving nine children to die.
" Now listen up my name is Mr. Miller, I only came here to save my daughter," Miller started his face serious pointing out the main reason he was there. They felt uneasy now, but one said anything.
" But with you all here that would have to change, we have a temporary survival base at district AD, so we'll be heading there" Miller said. The thought of a safe place got everyone feeling better again, but at the same time sad, as Audrey's father came to get her. What about their families?, they could only make questions with no answers. But they hoped they were ok, that was their positivity hoping.
" Excuse me sir but if I may, what's the situation like outside?" Alexander asked stepping forward.
" Chaotic. Everything is a mess. We aren't even supposed to be here. We were holding ground somewhere before it got over run and then I decided to come here and they agreed to follow," Miller answered pointing over his soldier. " There are jail breaks, leaders killed, suicides, even phone receptions are cut off. No one even understands how this virus came to be. There are thousands of questions, maybe millions and no answers"
"We should move now" one of the soldier by the door voiced.
" Ok let's go now"
" But wait" said Ben aloud.
" We can't," Alex also spoke at the same time.
" Huh?"
" Well you see there are four others but they went to get the keys for the school bus. We actually planned on escaping before you showed up. It would be rather unfair if we just left," Alexander explained his voice carrying sympathy.
Everyone was silent for a second until someone said they should just go and it would be better being under the soldiers arms than on their own and silently the others agreed. Alexander, Ben and Alex defend the ones who left but no one wanted to hear any of it.
" Just shut up you moron," a boy said through his teeth. " I'm going," and with that he stepped over to Miller and was joined by others. Arriey cried muffling her noises as the tears ran down her cheeks. Ben wiped her cheeks and felt bad as he had forgotten about her, he was only thinking about his feelings. She was just a little child and needed protection, he shouldn't risk her life lowering her protection to wait on the others to return.
" Ok," Ben said walking over to Miller, but Arriey pulled on his hand.
" What about Felix?" she asked, her voice small. Ben only smiled and said it was ok.
" Well hopefully we'll see them on the way," Alexander said and with that everyone started to move with the soldiers.
