Mordo's perspective *
At Kamar-Taj
1 hour after the dimensional gate incident above Times Square
" How is it going? Have you reached the New York Sanctum yet?" I asked anxiously while trying every spell I knew to connect the spherical communication artifact in front of the portal that linked to the other gate at the New York Sanctum but received no response at all
" Not at all, sir"
" Opening a portal to America with a sling ring doesn't work either"
" It seems there's a distortion in the dimension there so Vishanti doesn't allow us to open a portal to it"
" The exploration team that opened a gate to the Bahamas is about to board the Viking ship knórr to sail to New York"
" Another team is boarding the Viking ship Fley from Bermuda island too"
I nodded slowly as the anxiety in my heart kept growing This situation was definitely not normal
The most frightening possibility was that New York might be under attack by the new lord of the dark dimension continuing from what happened in Hong Kong!
10 minutes passed and even though I kept trying other ways I still couldn't contact New York at all
The funny thing is... I relied too much on magic that I ignored the most basic things like asking for phone numbers social networks or the workplace coordinates of Strange and other members of the New York Sanctum
Because magic was convenient I never thought to save contacts add friends or follow each other on socials and when magic got cut off we couldn't reach anyone at all
And that feeling of "relying too much on magic so once it's gone you can't do anything" became clearer the next second when...
The mystic art glows of the sorcerers around me who were trying to contact the New York Sanctum began to flicker unstable like they were about to die out any second
" We lost contact with the Fley team!"
" The knórr team replied replied... ah!"
All the magical lights went out at once Every portal the sling rings tried to open stopped working Even the permanent warp gate in front of me suddenly shut down The magical sensation I used to feel clearly vanished as well
It was a horrible feeling like being blindfolded unable to see ears blocked from hearing wearing a thick filtered mask so tight you couldn't even sense a smell
" Everyone! Gather at the armory!!" I shouted immediately and the masters beside me started yelling the same command down the hallways Without anyone needing to say what was happening everyone already knew that now...
Kamar-Taj was under attack!
Magic had stopped functioning and couldn't be drawn out anymore This was the worst possible situation
The reason why magic couldn't be used wasn't worth thinking about right now analyzing which kind of spell or rune or barrier or dimension seal the enemy used because that would only waste time
For now prepare weapons fight first analyze later who the enemy is what group they belong to then compare with the knowledge I've studied to determine what kind of sorcery they use
' The New York Sanctum must be experiencing the same thing huh ' I thought as I grabbed my heavy glaive ' Normally it's easy to wield because of magical aid but now just holding it without even swinging I can already feel its weight damn it! '
As if the intruder had heard my thought "damn it" the situation around me suddenly... got worse!
Slash!
The sound of blades cutting through flesh and bone echoed from every direction I turned left a master's head flew off I turned right a disciple's body was split in half I looked ahead and saw someone's limbs flying across the hall
In just a blink... I blinked once hoping it was an illusion but when I opened my eyes again the smell of blood filled my nose and the warm liquid splattered across my robe confirmed that this was real
And the thing that shocked me the most wasn't the massacre of dozens or hundreds of fellow sorcerers in an instant
Nor the sight of the main hall soaked in blood everywhere on the floor walls pillars and ceiling
But because the one who stepped through the portal and did all this was someone far above us who could crush us all in a second...
" Strange!"
" Heh heh Mordo" he greeted me with a calm blank face his eyes looking over the corpses of his own disciples without emotion even though in both his hands was the Vishanti mystic sword radiating a red-black aura of death so strong I almost vomited
" You... what have you done!?"
" You see it don't you why bother asking has your mind gone dull now that you can't use magic heh heh heh" That cold answer sent a chill through my entire body and soul The first thought flashing in my head was... the fall of the New York Sanctum when Master Daniel was beheaded and his head sent to Strange's desk maybe it wasn't Kaecilius who did it
Maybe it was Strange himself and he blamed Kaecilius!
Because there was never any proof besides Strange's own words I had doubts but overlooked them since after he became Sorcerer Supreme he seemed devoted to training everyone making them better and stronger
But who would've thought it was all part of a plan to make everyone drop their guard before he worshiped death and slaughtered the main temple!
" Strange! You were the one who killed Master Daniel weren't you!!"
" The dead don't need to know the truth heh heh heh"
Slash
I saw a strange new view from an impossible angle My head had flown off my shoulders rolling on the ground facing my own body upside down while Strange smiled like he was enjoying a fun scene and that smile made me furious but I couldn't do anything anymore
' Not having magic to defend yourself... really sucks '
