Alex said quietly, "I have something to talk to you about."
Alicia frowned. "What is it… ?"
Alex scratched his cheek. "Well… how do I say it…"
Alicia's eyes narrowed. "Are you trying to hide something from me?"
A small smile spread across Alex's lips. "Well, it's not a big deal. It's just that in the next forty-eight hours, everyone's going to forget all about me… and even that I existed."
Alicia laughed. "This is a bad joke, you know. If you wanted to get punched, you should've just said so."
Alex laughed too. "Well, this time it's not a joke. I'm serious as hell."
At that, Alicia suddenly smiled. "That's wonderful news. Why didn't you tell me before? It's not a big deal at all."
Alex chuckled. "Because you were unconscious, silly."
"I guess I was," Alicia said.
Both of them started laughing—unhinged, half-hysterical.
Suddenly, lunging forward despite the pain, Alicia planted a kick in Alex's face.
