Chapter 142 - Chapter 142: The Future Steps Forward

Itogami Island.

After defeating the Black Dragon, Kojou wandered around the island accompanied by Moegi and Reina.

Curiosity gnawed at his chest every time he looked at them—his daughters from the future.

These feelings weren't entirely new; they had been reinforced after the time he spent with Tsurara and Mira, as well as Satsuki. He found himself wanting to understand them more… and to understand what his own future would become.

"What are your hobbies?"

Kojou asked them with genuine curiosity. He couldn't ignore how different they looked from him; only Reina had inherited his blue eyes, while her other features resembled her mother, Touka, much more.

As for Moegi, she hadn't inherited any physical resemblance… but her personality?

That strange blend of indifference and twisted playfulness was a miniature version of him, evoking a mix of slight concern and intense curiosity.

Reina lifted her head proudly and shouted with an enthusiasm that almost sparkled in her eyes:

"Fighting!"

The excitement in her gaze was clear, as if the spark she saw during the moment of erasing the Black Dragon still burned in her heart.

Moegi, however, was calmer. She placed her hands behind her head and replied in a tone carrying a hint of subtle pride:

"Video games… and tinkering with machines."

Then she added with a small smile:

"I'm number one globally in most popular games, by the way."

Kojou paused for a moment, staring at them…

Once again, he felt that the future they came from was not just a distant time—it was a natural extension of every step he took now.

"I see… So, how about we head to the arcade and play for a bit?"

Kojou asked with a faint smile, but the suggestion alone was enough to make Reina raise an eyebrow in clear annoyance.

She stepped forward, arms crossed, and said in a tone mixing excitement and objection:

"Why don't we go fight instead?"

Her eyes shone with a familiar gleam, the sparkle that revealed her obvious addiction to battles.

"I'm curious about your strength in this time… Kojou-kun."

She said it with a tone carrying a hint of challenge, as if trying to drag him into a battlefield rather than into a game session.

Kojou sighed softly and raised his hand as if to extinguish the fire of excitement sparking in his future daughter's eyes.

"No, no fighting today."

He said it firmly yet gently, more like a father trying to calm an overexcited child.

Reina shot him a slightly shocked look, as if this refusal had never crossed her mind.

She adjusted her stance, leaning forward slightly as she asked him in an indignant tone:

"Why?! Isn't fighting the best test?"

Kojou smiled faintly as he walked forward, motioning for her and Moegi to follow.

"Because I… just finished a fight against a massive dragon."

Then he added, waving his hand in the air:

"And fighting you, at least in the future, seems like it would end up destroying part of the island."

Reina paused for a moment, then bit her lip after failing to find a suitable retort, while Moegi chuckled lightly:

"Logic defeated you, Reina."

"Shut up…"

Reina muttered, reluctantly following them.

Kojou continued walking calmly, speaking without turning back:

"The arcade will be fine. We can play, relax a little… and maybe you'll understand this time better."

Then he turned halfway toward them, raising an eyebrow in his usual lazy manner:

"And honestly… I don't want to lose to my daughter in our first meeting."

Moegi stopped, a mischievous smile forming on her lips:

"That would still be a fun loss anyway."

Reina sighed in resignation, but soon took quick steps to walk beside him, a small smile breaking through her face despite herself.

"Alright… the arcade then. But after that, I won't stop asking for a fight."

Kojou chuckled lightly:

"We'll cross that bridge when we get there."

With the sea breeze passing between father and daughters, the three headed toward the arcade—their steps in sync despite their differing moods, as if the future had begun to take shape… slowly, but steadily.

_

A few hours later.

The three exited the game arcade with completely contrasting expressions.

Reina walked calmly, her features natural as if nothing had happened.

Kojou wore a faint smile despite the obvious fatigue on his face.

But Moegi… her features were clearly sullen, her brow furrowed with visible frustration.

She raised her voice, kicking the air in annoyance:

"Damn it… I came from the future just to defeat you, and yet I didn't win even once!"

She said it with a tone mixing annoyance and shock, as if she had finally revealed the real reason for her appearance here—even if she wasn't the best at fighting in the first place.

Kojou glanced at her sideways, half with mockery and half with unacknowledged affection, while Reina burst out laughing lightly:

"You were talking all the time about experiments and scientific research… and in the end, that's the real reason?"

Moegi's face flushed slightly as she shouted:

"What?! None of your business!"

This time, Kojou laughed sincerely, shaking his head as if discovering something new about his future daughter:

"Alright, fine… you can try again in ten years."

Moegi froze for a second, then exploded:

"Ten years?! You're underestimating me, Kojou-kun!"

Meanwhile, Reina continued walking, muttering with a confident smile:

"You'll still lose even after twenty."

"…."

Moegi only shot a sharp, annoyed glance at Reina before a torrent of massive magical energy erupted from her body.

In a moment, everything around them changed—the light, the air, the ground… the whole world transformed as if someone had turned the page of reality.

Kojou blinked twice, trying to comprehend what he was seeing.

"A digital space?"

He asked, raising an eyebrow, confusion evident in his voice.

The place around them was a vibrant forest; leaves swaying in a gentle breeze, the real scent of soil, warm sunlight piercing through the branches…

If he didn't possess his keen spatial abilities, he would have thought they had moved to a real forest somewhere in the world… and not into a digital space created by a small but defiant character.

Moegi nodded proudly, a wicked smile on her lips:

"Exactly. This is a digital space I made."

She continued, her tone full of confidence:

"It's very sturdy too, so you can fight Reina without too many restrictions."

Her eyes sparkled as she watched the two, as if awaiting the show:

"In fact… I'm excited to see how Reina gets crushed this time."

Reina immediately shouted:

"What—?!"

But Moegi ignored her, waving her hand as if giving final instructions:

"Just a small warning… don't go overboard, Kojou-kun."

Then she gestured toward the trees and the surrounding scene:

"This space is strong, but not strong enough to withstand all your power. So try… not to destroy it completely."
