Personally, Adel thinks that barrier magic is, without a doubt, true magic.
Perhaps the reason others do not consider it as such is because it only creates a barrier around the body and does not use a pentagram to cast it.
For such a ridiculous idea, Adel considered mages pathetic. Dismissing a magic that could potentially evolve to surpass any other seemed to him an act of naivety.
However, there were more specific reasons why barrier magic was not considered magic, and no one had attempted to evolve it.
It simply uses raw magical power, nothing more, without the use of a pentagram. Logically speaking, true magic requires a pentagram, as it is the formula and creation of magic.
But you say there is no pentagram that creates barrier magic... Indeed, it doesn't have one, which is why it was branded as a non-magical ability.
So, what happens with evolution?
