"Shit!" I cursed.
"Everyone! Gear up and follow me." Miss Rika, already geared with a full vest and her trusted sniper rifle, shouted at us.
Because we had become familiar with each other over the past few days, she taught us what we should do in an emergency situation like this. So everyone knew their role.
We took our prepared equipment and headed out with her. Emergency ration had been deposited into the backpack that Saya and Miss Shizuka brought.
I equipped my usual gear and Saeko did the same. The three of us were in charge of defense while Saya and Miss Shizuka brought our ration.
Of course they also had weapons on their own, but they weren't the main combatant.
Anyway, we went to the military headquarter as fast as we could, avoiding the crowd. People were panicking, running in random directions and trying to find safety.
"Get in! Get in! Get in!" A soldier shouted at us from inside the building and waved his hands frantically upon seeing us.
The gate around the headquarters was almost closed, so we ran at full speed to enter the building.
But the situation didn't look good at all. There was an endless tide of undead coming toward the military building.
They were coming from the refugee camps outside the quarantine zone and the gate to the quarantine zone had been breached.
I looked up to see soldiers firing their weapons from the roof. They shot at the undeads that approached the gate. However, even with the combined firepower, there were still too many.
"Come here, fast!"
Leon beckoned us from inside, covering us with a cover fire. He fired his pistol repeatedly and I noticed he was shooting accurately to the head. His accuracy was terrifying and it showed how skilled he was.
And so I led the girls into the headquarters while providing cover fire for them. I stayed last and only entered when the gate was almost fully closed.
"I made it." I huffed in exhaustion.
Looking back, I saw the metal gate closing and locking the horde from outside. The sound of bullets hitting it was loud, and I wondered whether they could hold forever with a wire fence.
Zombies tried to push the hastily made barricades, making a rattling noise.
"Status report!" Wesker's voice echoed through the radio on a desk near us.
Leon picked it up and spoke, "There are too many zombies, hundreds of them. Most civilians have been evacuated to the emergency points, but we can't hold them forever. We need to exterminate them or leave this place."
I agreed with Leon. These numbers were far too much.
Ammunition was pretty scarce. Even though the US managed to secure the supply route with their airforce, the supplies were too little to keep up the resistance. It would run out eventually and when it did, it would mean our end.
We couldn't hold them forever.
"Alright." Wesker replied and sighed deeply before speaking again, "Then let's go with plan B. Leave this place and destroy everything. If you meet any resistance, eliminate them. I am outside the Quarantine Zone right now because of a mission. The highest command on site is you, Leon."
"Understood." Leon answered and then clicked his tongue while putting down the radio. "Everyone, we're leaving this place. Go to your post and follow plan B. We will evacuate this place and head to the evac point."
"Roger that." The soldiers responded and ran away, following his orders.
Turning toward me, he gave out an instruction.
"Follow Rika's command. You will move together with her in this operation." He said to me and the others, "The girls can follow the medic team in the truck. Don't worry about their safety, we will prioritize doctors and nurses in evacuation, including them."
His gaze then focused on Saeko and he added.
"What about you?"
In the time we spent in the quarantine zone, Leon had seen Saeko's ability. She was good enough to make the soldiers wary of her. Leon himself knew her prowess, and so he wanted to use her as an asset.
However...
Saeko didn't think twice and replied.
"No, I will not leave his side. Even if I die, I will be with him."
"Understandable. Do as you please then."
And Leon didn't force it, leaving us immediately.
He had more important things to do than forcing a stubborn person like Saeko, after all.
Anyway...
"So what should we do?"
"We move with Leon's team, covering the rear. We will retreat last after everyone else has left." Miss Rika explained, "Let's move, we will be the main force to deal with these zombies."
I nodded at her and turned to look at Saeko, who was standing beside me with her sword ready to be drawn. She nodded at me with a determined expression.
Then I faced Saya and Miss Shizuka.
The pinkette's face was pale and she bit her lips, trying to calm her beating heart. Meanwhile, the beautiful and sexy blonde seemed to be very anxious, looking around nervously.
"Please be safe." I said to them, and they both nodded at the same time.
"I know. I can take care of myself. You better watch yourself or you'll end up dying out there. I am a genius, so I can think of a way to survive." Saya huffed and looked away.
"Daiki-kun." Miss Shizuka spoke with her soft and sweet voice. She looked at me with a smile, but I could see fear in her eyes. "If I don't see you again, then we'll see each other in the afterlife."
She tried to be funny, but I knew she was scared.
And she also knew I knew, so her next words didn't surprise me at all.
"So live, please."
I smiled wryly at them, and then looked at Saeko.
"We'll be fine." I reassured them. "Don't worry. We've survived the apocalypse once. We will do it again."
Then, we parted ways.

Following Miss Rika, we went through the backdoor while Miss Shizuka and Saya entered the military vehicle and left the area with other civilians, escorted by soldiers. It seemed like Leon was with them too. It was his job to protect them, so I wasn't worried.
Meanwhile, I had my job to do.
We went outside the gate from the back door, and Miss Rika immediately gave us orders. Her sniper rifle was pointed to the direction where we were supposed to head, filled with many undead.
"We have two tasks. One is to buy some time so Leon can lead the civilians and the others to the evacuation point, which is around three hours away." She said while taking cover on the side of the road, and then pointed at the zombies in front of us. "Second is to destroy everything here. Kill them all."
I nodded at her. "Roger."
It's time for a massacre.
